Clarification about ANCS being unavailable
Hello, I am working on a project that involves using external device to connect over BLE with users iPhone. I would like to be able to notify users on our device about eg. incoming calls, messages etc. I have been succesfull in using ANCS to achieve that but I am a little worried around consistency of this solution, especially taking into account following line from documentation: Due to the nature of iOS, the ANCS is not guaranteed to always be present. As a result, the NC should look for and subscribe to the Service Changed characteristic of the GATT service in order to monitor for the potential publishing and unpublishing of the ANCS at any time. I have not been able (yet?) to find or identify circumstances when ANCS would not be avilable or would be "removed in runtime", hence would it be possible to request some guidance and clarification on the conditions when ANCS can be unavailable or removed? Thank you!

push notifications are not receiving to device
iOS push notification is not working for in App since 03-Apr-2025. We are pushing the message to APNS from our application, but message is not delivered to iOS device. We have performed tests on both PROD and QA environment and following are the observations: PROD successfully pushing the notification to APNS but not receiving the notification on iOS device (100% failure). QA received notification on iOS device always (100% success). Analyzed PROD notification server log at our end and we do not observe any error and it is showing successful also when message is pushed to APNS all the time. Need to check from APNS why push messages are not delivered to iOS devices. Validated the PROD APNS certificate at our end which we are using during call to APNS - it is valid till Oct 2025. Please suggest me any possible solution because I don't have any clue where it is failing and what to do

Title: DNS Proxy Not Capturing Traffic When Public DNS Is Set in WiFi Settings
I'm working on a Network Extension using NEDNSProxyProvider to inspect DNS traffic. However, I've run into a couple of issues: DNS Proxy is not capturing traffic when a public DNS (like 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1) is manually configured in the WiFi settings. It seems like the system bypasses the proxy in this case. Is this expected behavior? Is there a way to force DNS traffic through the proxy even if a public DNS is set? Using DNS Proxy and DNS Settings simultaneously doesn't work. Is there a known limitation or a correct way to combine these? How to set DNS or DNSSettings using DNSProxy? import NetworkExtension import SystemExtensions import SwiftUI protocol DNSProxyManagerDelegate { func managerStateDidChange(_ manager: DNSProxyManager) } class DNSProxyManager: NSObject { private let manager = NEDNSProxyManager.shared() var delegate: DNSProxyManagerDelegate? private(set) var isEnabled: Bool = false { didSet { delegate?.managerStateDidChange(self) } } var completion: (() -> Void)? override init() { super.init() self.load() } func toggle() { isEnabled ? disable() : start() } private func start() { let request = OSSystemExtensionRequest .activationRequest(forExtensionWithIdentifier: Constants.extensionBundleID, queue: DispatchQueue.main) request.delegate = self OSSystemExtensionManager.shared.submitRequest(request) log.info("Submitted extension activation request") } private func enable() { update { self.manager.localizedDescription = "DNS Proxy" let proto = NEDNSProxyProviderProtocol() proto.providerBundleIdentifier = Constants.extensionBundleID self.manager.providerProtocol = proto self.manager.isEnabled = true } } private func disable() { update { self.manager.isEnabled = false } } private func remove() { update { self.manager.removeFromPreferences { _ in self.isEnabled = self.manager.isEnabled } } } private func update(_ body: @escaping () -> Void) { self.manager.loadFromPreferences { (error) in if let error = error { log.error("Failed to load DNS manager: \(error)") return } self.manager.saveToPreferences { (error) in if let error = error { return } log.info("Saved DNS manager") self.isEnabled = self.manager.isEnabled } } } private func load() { manager.loadFromPreferences { error in guard error == nil else { return } self.isEnabled = self.manager.isEnabled } } } extension DNSProxyManager: OSSystemExtensionRequestDelegate { func requestNeedsUserApproval(_ request: OSSystemExtensionRequest) { log.info("Extension activation request needs user approval") } func request(_ request: OSSystemExtensionRequest, didFailWithError error: Error) { log.error("Extension activation request failed: \(error)") } func request(_ request: OSSystemExtensionRequest, foundProperties properties: [OSSystemExtensionProperties]) { log.info("Extension activation request found properties: \(properties)") } func request(_ request: OSSystemExtensionRequest, didFinishWithResult result: OSSystemExtensionRequest.Result) { guard result == .completed else { log.error("Unexpected result \(result.description) for system extension request") return } log.info("Extension activation request did finish with result: \(result.description)") enable() } func request(_ request: OSSystemExtensionRequest, actionForReplacingExtension existing: OSSystemExtensionProperties, withExtension ext: OSSystemExtensionProperties) -> OSSystemExtensionRequest.ReplacementAction { log.info("Existing extension willt be replaced: \(existing.bundleIdentifier) -> \(ext.bundleIdentifier)") return .replace } } import NetworkExtension class DNSProxyProvider: NEDNSProxyProvider { var handlers: [String: FlowHandler] = [:] var isReady = false let queue = DispatchQueue(label: "DNSProxyProvider") override func startProxy(options:[String: Any]? = nil, completionHandler: @escaping (Error?) -> Void) { completionHandler(nil) } override func stopProxy(with reason: NEProviderStopReason, completionHandler: @escaping () -> Void) { completionHandler() } override func handleNewUDPFlow(_ flow: NEAppProxyUDPFlow, initialRemoteEndpoint remoteEndpoint: NWEndpoint) -> Bool { let id = shortUUID() handlers[id] = FlowHandler(flow: flow, remoteEndpoint: remoteEndpoint, id: id, delegate: self) return true } override func handleNewFlow(_ flow: NEAppProxyFlow) -> Bool { return false } } class FlowHandler { let id: String let flow: NEAppProxyUDPFlow let remoteEndpoint: NWHostEndpoint let delegate: FlowHandlerDelegate private var connections: [String: RemoteConnection] = [:] private var pendingPacketsByDomain: [String: [(packet: Data, endpoint: NWEndpoint, uniqueID: String, timestamp: Date)]] = [:] private let packetQueue = DispatchQueue(label: "com.flowhandler.packetQueue") init(flow: NEAppProxyUDPFlow, remoteEndpoint: NWEndpoint, id: String, delegate: FlowHandlerDelegate) { log.info("Flow received for \(id) flow: \(String(describing: flow))") self.flow = flow self.remoteEndpoint = remoteEndpoint as! Filtering MMS Messages with Multimedia Content (Images, Videos, etc.)
Hi Apple Developer, I’m working on a message-filtering application and reviewing Apple's documentation on message filtering. The documentation clearly states that MMS messages can be filtered. (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/identitylookup/sms-and-mms-message-filtering) When we refer to MMS, it includes images, short videos, and other supported multimedia formats. However, the ILMessageFilterQueryRequest only provides the message body as a String, meaning we can access text and links but not images or other media files. Could you please confirm whether Apple allows third-party applications to access multimedia content sent from unknown numbers? Looking forward to your quick response. Thanks, Rijul Singhal

Wrong Product.displayPrice?
I am using StoreKit 2 for my products and noticed that users from Ukraine (for example) receive a wrong Product.displayPrice. The App Store works with USD but shows the local currency UAH. Any chance to display the correct currency (USD)?

BGTaskScheduler crashes on iOS 18.4
I've been seeing a high number of BGTaskScheduler related crashes, all of them coming from iOS 18.4. I've encountered this myself once on launch upon installing my app, but haven't been able to reproduce it since, even after doing multiple relaunches and reinstalls. Crash report attached at the bottom of this post. I am not even able to symbolicate the reports despite having the archive on my MacBook: Does anyone know if this is an iOS 18.4 bug or am I doing something wrong when scheduling the task? Below is my code for scheduling the background task on the view that appears when my app launches: .onChange(of: scenePhase) { newPhase in if newPhase == .active { #if !os(macOS) let request = BGAppRefreshTaskRequest(identifier: "notifications") request.earliestBeginDate = Calendar.current.date(byAdding: .hour, value: 3, to: Date()) do { try BGTaskScheduler.shared.submit(request) Logger.notifications.log("Background task scheduled. Earliest begin date: \(request.earliestBeginDate?.description ?? "nil", privacy: .public)") } catch let error { // print("Scheduling Error \(error.localizedDescription)") Logger.notifications.error("Error scheduling background task: \(error.localizedDescription, privacy: .public)") } #endif ... } 2025-02-23_19-53-50.2294_+0000-876d2b8ec083447af883961da90398f00562f781.crash

Error setting install attribution pingback
Hi there, We have an app targeted for children and we want to use the SkAdNetwork to track installs for campaigns. We don't want to track further in-app events (purchase etc.), just the install event. We added the SDK to our Unity app, listed the network identifiers in the plist file, configured the external campaign according to their instructions, but struggle to see any events for several weeks now. We see the following logs in the app: Registering install attribution pingback. Failed to migrate Install Attribution database schema from 17001 => 17400. SkAdNetwork: No pingbacks found while attempting to register/update. Error setting install attribution pingback registered for app: 1509727806, error: Error Domain=ASDErrorDomain code=1208 How can we debug this further? What does the error mean? Thank you very much! (I hope I posted in the correct forum topic. Apologies if not)

Direct to 'Call Blocking & Identification' on iOS
As far as I know, Apple doesn’t allow apps to directly navigate users to the Call Blocking & Identification settings screen. That’s why many apps just show instructions like: "Go to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification" to enable the app. Apple only officially provides UIApplicationOpenSettingsURLString, which takes users to the app's own settings page. But here’s where I’m confused: some Korean apps like Whowho and Adot Phone seem to be able to direct users to the Call Blocking & Identification screen. Whowho: https://apps.apple.com/kr/app/whowho-spam-block-callerid/id1033450260?l=en-GB Adot Phone: I'm wondering how these apps are doing that. Are they using some kind of private API or workaround? Those app are developed from Internet Serivce Provider Company.

Live Activity - ActivityState - case .dismissed
Hi everyone, I'm working with Live Activities using the ActivityKit(Activity), and I'm trying to find a way to detect when a user manually dismisses a Live Activity by swiping it away — either from the Lock Screen or the Dynamic Island. Currently, when a Live Activity ends, the activityState changes to .dismissed, which is defined as: /// The Live Activity ended and is no longer visible because a person or the system removed it. case dismissed This doesn’t allow me to determine whether the dismissal was triggered by the user or by the system. Is there any way — either through ActivityState, notifications, or another approach — to distinguish if a Live Activity was manually dismissed by the user vs. ended by the system? Thanks in advance!

Debugging help
No matter what I do, I keep getting the error Thread 1: EXC_BREAKPOINT (code=1, subcode=0x2648fc364) for the line: transactions = try modelContext.fetch(descriptor) in the code below. My app opens, but freezes on the home page and I can't click anything. I am not sure how to fix initialization issues. I am creating a financial assistant app that connects plaid and opoenai api. var descriptor = FetchDescriptor<ExpenseTransaction>() descriptor.sortBy = [SortDescriptor(\.date, order: .reverse)] descriptor.fetchLimit = 200 transactions = try modelContext.fetch(descriptor) print("Successfully loaded \(transactions.count) transactions") } catch { print("Error in loadLocalTransactions: \(error)") transactions = [] } }

iOS not launching my app network extension, it seemingly isn't crashing it either
My personal project is a bit further along however after not being able to get this to work in my app I fell back to a much simpler/proven implementation out there. There is this project on GitHub with a guide that implements a barebones app extension with packet tunneling. I figure this can give us common ground. After changing the bundle and group identifiers to all end with -Caleb and or match up I tried running the app. The app extension does not work whatsoever and seemingly for reasons that are similar to my personal project. If I pull up the console and filter for the subsystem (com.github.kean.vpn-client-caleb.vpn-tunnel) I see the following. First you see installd installing it 0x16ba5f000 -[MIUninstaller _uninstallBundleWithIdentity:linkedToChildren:waitForDeletion:uninstallReason:temporaryReference:deleteDataContainers:wasLastReference:error:]: Destroying container com.github.kean.vpn-client-caleb.vpn-tunnel with persona 54D15361-A614-4E0D-931A-0953CDB50CE8 at /private/var/mobile/Containers/Data/PluginKitPlugin/2D0AE485-BB56-4E3E-B59E-48424CD4FD65 And then installd says this (No idea what it means) 0x16b9d3000 -[MIInstallationJournalEntry _refreshUUIDForContainer:withError:]: Data container for com.github.kean.vpn-client-caleb.vpn-tunnel is now at /private/var/mobile/Containers/Data/PluginKitPlugin/2D0AE485-BB56-4E3E-B59E-48424CD4FD65 Concerningly runningboardd seems to immediately try and stop it? Detect if a file or folder is synced by cloud providers (Google Drive, iCloud, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.) in iOS (all versions)
Hi all, I’m building an iOS app where I need to determine user picked files or folders using UIDocumentPickerViewController, whether the selected item is synced or managed by a cloud storage provider such as: Google Drive iCloud Drive OneDrive Dropbox or any third-party File Provider extension My intent is to detect this and optionally warn the user that the item may be subject to syncing behavior. So far, I’ve tried a few different approaches: Extended Attributes (listxattr / getxattr) While this does not give reliable outcome. Heuristically search for keywords like 'Drive', 'GoogleDrive' etc But this is also not reliable. Question Is there any possible reliable and documented way to detect programmatically if a file/folder is cloud-synced or managed by a File Provider from within a regular iOS app (not an extension), especially for: Google Drive OneDrive Dropbox iCloud Other third-party providers? Also, is there any recommended fallback strategy for iOS versions prior to 17 where NSFileProviderManager may have limitations? Any input from Apple engineers or those who have tackled this would be hugely appreciated! Thanks in advance 🙌

What is the correct syntax to continue in app for custom intent?
I have a custom intent. When my app is unable to complete the resolution of a parameter within the app extension, I need to be able to continue within the app. I am unable to figure out what the correct objective C syntax is to enable the execution to continue with the app. Here is what I have tried: completion([[PickWoodIntentResponse init] initWithCode:PickWoodIntentResponseCodeContinueInApp userActivity:nil]); This results in the following error: Implicit conversion from enumeration type 'enum PickWoodIntentResponseCode' to different enumeration type 'INAnswerCallIntentResponseCode' (aka 'enum INAnswerCallIntentResponseCode') I have no idea why it is referring to the enum type of 'INAnswerCallIntentResponseCode' which is unrelated to my app. I have also tried: PickWoodIntentResponse *response = [[PickWoodIntentResponse init] initWithCode:PickWoodIntentResponseCodeContinueInApp userActivity:nil]; completion(response); but that results in 2 errors: Implicit conversion from enumeration type 'enum PickWoodIntentResponseCode' to different enumeration type 'INAnswerCallIntentResponseCode' (aka 'enum INAnswerCallIntentResponseCode') and Incompatible pointer types passing 'PickWoodIntentResponse *' to parameter of type 'INStringResolutionResult *' The relevant autogenerated code provided to me with the creation of my intent is as follows: @class PickWoodIntentResponse; @protocol PickWoodIntentHandling <NSObject> - (void)resolveVarietyForPickWood:(PickWoodIntent *)intent withCompletion:(void (^)(INStringResolutionResult *resolutionResult))completion NS_SWIFT_NAME(resolveVariety(for:with:)) API_AVAILABLE(ios(13.0), macos(11.0), watchos(6.0)); @end typedef NS_ENUM(NSInteger, PickWoodIntentResponseCode) { PickWoodIntentResponseCodeUnspecified = 0, PickWoodIntentResponseCodeReady, PickWoodIntentResponseCodeContinueInApp, PickWoodIntentResponseCodeInProgress, PickWoodIntentResponseCodeSuccess, PickWoodIntentResponseCodeFailure, PickWoodIntentResponseCodeFailureRequiringAppLaunch } @interface PickWoodIntentResponse : INIntentResponse - (instancetype)init NS_UNAVAILABLE; - (instancetype)initWithCode:(PickWoodIntentResponseCode)code userActivity:(nullable NSUserActivity *)userActivity NS_DESIGNATED_INITIALIZER; @property (readonly, NS_NONATOMIC_IOSONLY) PickWoodIntentResponseCode code; @end Am I overlooking something? What would be the proper syntax to have within the completion block to satisfy the compiler?

DriverKit driver doesn't appear in Settings when installed with iPad app
I'm working on a DriverKit driver. I have it running on macOS, including a very simple client app written in SwiftUI. Everything is working fine there. I've added iPadOS as a destination for the app as demonstrated in the WWDC video on DriverKit for iPadOS. The app builds and runs on my iPad, as expected (after a little work to conditionalize out my use of SystemExtensions.framework for installation on macOS). However, after installing and running the app on an iPad, the driver does not show up in Settings->General, nor in the app-specific settings pane triggered by the inclusion of a settings bundle in the app. I've confirmed that the dext is indeed being included in the app bundle when built for iPadOS (in MyApp.app/SystemExtensions/com.me.MyApp.MyDriver.dext). I also can see in the build log that there's a validation step for the dext, and that seems to be succeeding. I don't know why the app isn't being discovered -- or in any case surfaced to the user -- when the app is installed on the iPad. Has anyone faced this problem and solved it? Are there ways to troubleshoot installation/discovery of an embedded DriverKit extensions on iOS? Unlike on macOS, I don't really see any relevant console messages.

What is an ASDError Domain Error ?
Is there any resource which describes this type of errors? “Account Not In This Store” error when trying to purchase non-consumable IAP within TestFlight
I have simple non-consumable IAPs set up for an app on macOS. Testing in development with a local .storekit configuration file, everything works as expected. Testing in development with a remote Sandbox, everything also seems to work fine. Product names and prices fetch correctly, I am able to make purchases with a Sandbox account (both US and UK). Once I upload a build into TestFlight, IAPs no longer work. The tester would download the Beta app from TestFlight. They open a license manager and can see all the product names, descriptions and prices are pulled from Apple servers correctly (with the correct local currency as well!). So far so good. When trying to purchase any of the IAP, the following error appears: This is TestFlight so testers are using their real Apple ID. My understanding is that they should continue using their production credentials and a TestFlight Sandbox would be configured behind the scenes automatically. This error always says the users cannot purchase from a US store and must switch to [whatever user’s actual store location is] store. For example, my account is based in the UK, has got a UK billing address and a UK payment method, and the error tells me to switch to the UK store. People in Canada get a similar error - you must switch from the US store to Canadian. The error makes no sense, the account is already in the desired country. Clicking on the “Change Store” button opens the App Store app and displays another error: “Cannot Connect to App Store”. Clicking Retry just results in this errors showing again and again. Clicking OK takes us back to the failed IAP purchase and the final error message appears: “Purchase Error - Unable to Complete Request”. Things I’ve done / checked: IAPs are configured in App Store Connect and available for all regions prices are set for all regions in App Store Connect IAP name and description localisation in English (UK) IAP status is Ready to Submit, I don’t think I can go past that unless I make a production release (which I can’t until we fix the problem) IAP capabilities added in xcode the problem is not account, machine, or location dependent - every beta tester testing my app on TestFlight has the same issue, they each use a different account and have accounts in different countries double checked the App Store account location in the App Store settings - it is definitely matching the store this error is asking to switch to application exits at startup with error 173 if app receipt cannot be found - this one was suggested by the review team, I could not really find any documentation for it review team also suggested I should add com.apple.security.network.client to enable IAP connectivity. I did add that to one of the builds and it did not help. I am not really convinced this is necessary Any suggestions on what to check and what to try? I have run out of ideas.

Accidentally Deleted the Build Version Slot in Versioning
I have an app I want to get on the App Store but when I was putting in the build version slot, I accidentally deleted it by clicking backspace and tried everything to get it working again but I can't. Is there anyway for me to retrieve the slot so it works?

No matter what I do, I keep getting the error Thread 1: EXC_BREAKPOINT (code=1, subcode=0x2648fc364) for the line: transactions = try modelContext.fetch(descriptor) in the code below. iOS not launching my app network extension, it seemingly isn't crashing it either
