Live Activity works perfectly on Simulator but fails on physical device: "No asset provider bundle ID provided"
Hello community, I am implementing a Live Activity for my existing App Store app. The Live Activity works perfectly on the iOS Simulator, but it completely fails to appear on the physical device's lock screen. When I call Activity.request, it succeeds and returns a valid Activity ID, but the physical device's console immediately outputs the following errors from liveactivitiesd: liveactivitiesd is not entitled to specify a scene target. Defaulting containingProcess target to liveactivitiesd No asset provider bundle ID provided I have spent days debugging this and have tried every known workaround. Here is the comprehensive list of what I have already verified and attempted: Environment: Xcode: 16.4 iOS Device: iPhone 13 mini, iOS 26.3.1 macOS: Sequoia 15.6 What I have verified/tried (to avoid duplicate suggestions): NSSupportsLiveActivities: It is set to YES in the main app's Info.plist. I also tried adding it to the Widget Extension's Info.plist just in case. App Icons: The main app has a valid AppIcon set in Assets.xcassets. The Primary App Icon Set Name in Build Settings is correctly set to AppIcon. Bundle IDs: They match perfectly (com.mycompany.app and com.mycompany.app.MyWidget). Version & Build Numbers: The main app and the Widget Extension have exactly the same Version and Build numbers. App Groups & Entitlements: Checked and perfectly synced between the main app and the extension. Dummy Widget: Since it's a Live-Activity-only extension, I added a standard static DummyWidget to the WidgetBundle to prevent the known iOS 17 bug where the system ignores extensions without home screen widgets. Memory/Sanitizers: Ensured Address Sanitizer and Zombie Objects are completely disabled in the Scheme to prevent the 30MB memory limit crash on the device. Nuclear Option: Completely deleted the Widget Extension target, wiped DerivedData, restarted the Mac and iPhone, and recreated the extension from scratch. Minimal UI Test: Replaced the widget's UI with a simple Text("Test") to rule out any SwiftUI rendering crashes. Device Settings: Verified that "Live Activities" is enabled under "Face ID & Passcode" settings on the physical iPhone. Despite all of this, the Simulator works flawlessy, while the device throws No asset provider bundle ID provided and shows nothing. Does anyone know what specific condition causes liveactivitiesd to fail to find the asset provider (the parent app) on a physical device for an existing app? Are there any undocumented provisioning profile quirks or obscure Build Settings I might be missing? Any insights would be deeply appreciated. Thank you!

Control widget panel
I haven't been able to find the exact name for this. In iOS 26, there's a widget called "New Reminder" in Reminders app among the Control Center widgets(Action Button also). In the Shortcuts app, name is “Show quick reminder.” It doesn't seem to be either the input window that appears when requesting parameters or the snippet view. Is it possible to implement the sheet that appears after tap this widget button? I've looked through the relevant documentation and WWDC videos but haven't found anything.

Today Widgets (old widgets) disappear after EVERY app update.
We had "Today widgets" that worked perfect for a long time. After introducing the new Widgets Extension we added a Widgets Bundle to our app. Now after every app update the old widgets disappear from "Today view" and can be bring back ONLY by rebooting the iPhone. Sometime when they disappear, in today view appears the first widget from the Widgets Bundle. I've tested other apps too and it happens every time to apps that support old and new widgets (Xiaomi Home app for example). Does anyone have a clue how to fix that?

Updating widgets using using Tunnel.appEx
Hi, i searched some information about how widgetKit updates widgets using "reloadAllTimelines/reloadAllControls" and i know about daily limit for apps to update their widgets. I only care about how to notify user instantly about vpn status change even if app is terminated and user launch vpn connection from ControlCenter(system widget) or SysSettings, is there a way to update my app's contolCenter widgets from Tunnel if widget and tunnel extensions already have same appGroup defaults?

How to create ControlWidget button that opens my App
Hi, I want to create a ControlWidget button that acts as a shortcut in the control center open a specific view within my app to show a badge. Problem: I can‘t get it to open my host app. I tried a custom myapp:// protocol - did not work, I tied AppIntent with the openAppWhenRun set to true - did not work and the strange thing is the debugger breakpoint in perform will only get triggered if this is set to false. OpenIntent did not work either even if I use a dummy swift app as host to try it out. What is the current supported way (iOS 18 and 26) to open your app when a static ControlWidget button is clicked, what could I have done wrong / am missing?

Do watchOS widget reloads in an active workout session count against the daily budget?
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/widgetkit/keeping-a-widget-up-to-date lists a number of exception including "The widget’s containing app has an active audio or navigation session." https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2021/10048/ mentions: "However, there are a few situational exceptions that will make these reloads occur both immediately and budget-free. These are when your container app is foreground to the user or when your app is participating in a user session, like Navigation or Now Playing audio." Does an active workout session in a watchOS app count as "your app is participating in a user session", so calls to WidgetCenter.shared.reloadTimelines(ofKind:) are budget-free?

Getting location in an Apple Watch widget
I have a watchOS WidgetKit complication that needs the user's location to show the nearest transit station, but the widget never gets location permission and CLLocationManager times out. Setup: NSWidgetWantsLocation = YES in Widget Extension's Info.plist NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription and NSLocationAlwaysAndWhenInUseUsageDescription in Widget Extension's Info.plist Watch App successfully has location authorization Problem: The system never presents a location permission prompt for my widget. Apple's own World Clock widget does get one on watchOS (see screenshot) — I can't figure out what triggers it. When the widget tries to get location via CLLocationManager, the request times out and never returns a location. Questions: What triggers the system location prompt for a watchOS widget? Is NSWidgetWantsLocation sufficient or is something else required? Why would CLLocationManager time out and never return a location inside a widget extension? Is there a specific pattern required for requesting location in a WidgetKit timeline provider? Screenshots Sorry for swedish, but it says "Do you allow widgets from World Clock to use your location services?"

I would like to request clarification regarding the behavior of the Live Activity Start Token used in the Xcode and iOS development workflow.
Could you please provide guidance on the following points: Start Token Throttling Are there any throttling limits or rate restrictions applied to Start Tokens? Token Invalidation Scenarios Under what specific conditions can a Start Token become invalidated? Are there known scenarios that trigger invalidation? Token Regeneration Timeline Once a Start Token is invalidated, how long does it typically take before a new token can be successfully generated and validated? Frequency of Invalidation Is there any documented or expected frequency with which Start Tokens may become invalid, assuming a normal development workflow? Impact on Push Notification Token When a live activity Start Token becomes invalid, does this also cause APNs Push Notification Tokens to be invalidated or refreshed automatically?

Clarification on concurrency guarantees for shared data between App and Widget extensions
Hi, I’m looking for clarification on what concurrency and consistency guarantees Apple provides when multiple targets (main app + Widget extensions) access shared storage. Specifically: 1. UserDefaults (App Group / suiteName:) • If multiple processes (app + multiple widget instances) read and write the same shared UserDefaults, what guarantees are provided? • Is access serialized internally to prevent corruption? • Are read–modify–write operations safe across processes, or can lost updates occur? 2. Core Data (shared SQLite store in App Group container) • Is it officially supported for multiple processes to open and write to the same Core Data SQLite store? • Are there recommended configurations (e.g. WAL mode) for safe multi-process access? • Is Apple’s recommendation to have a single writer process? 3. FileManager (shared container files) • If two processes write to the same file in an App Group container, what guarantees are provided by the system? • Is atomic replaceItemAt the recommended pattern for safe cross-process updates? Additionally: • Do multiple widget instances count as separate processes with respect to these guarantees? • Is there official guidance on best practices for shared persistence between app and widget extensions? I want to ensure I’m following the correct architecture and not relying on undefined behavior. Thanks.

ProgressView in LiveActivities: missing functionality
Good afternoon all, I have a question about Live Activities, specifically ProgressView. Why are they so hard to customize? You can't even really, consistently make the bar a specific height in points. You can't provide any progress view style to make it richer and more dynamic. We want to build a progress bar that's built up of 3 components: a track with its value constant on 1.0 (the full progress) with a specific color, another track that's the actual progress from ProgressView(timerInterval:countsDown:), and some way to create a visual gap in between. The progress bar should also be bigger than the standard size from iOS, but that's also not possible. The corners become really ugly when you use the scaleEffect modifier. Please, if anyone has any ideas about customizing the ProgressView without me having to send push notifications to manually make sure the bar updates, comment down below.

Wanted: Live Activities, only on iOS (No remote iOS Live Activities)
I have a Live Activity on iOS. Love it. However, that Live Activity via remote hosting (I'm not building for other targets) shows the Live Activity on watchOS, macOS and CarPlay. disfavoredLocations are for widgets, but I don't appear to have a method to limit or provide exclusive locations the live activity should appear.

WidgetKit: WidgetCenter.reloadAllTimelines() / reloadTimelines(ofKind:) requests are silently ignored/deferred, causing widget to remain unupdated UI Frameworks SwiftUI
Problem After launching the host app by tapping the widget (widgetURL), calls to: WidgetCenter.shared.reloadAllTimelines() WidgetCenter.shared.reloadTimelines(ofKind: ...) are ignored/deferred for an initial period right after the app opens. During this window, the widget does not reload its timeline and remains unupdated, no matter how many times I call the reload methods. After some time passes (typically ~30 seconds, sometimes shorter/longer), reload calls start working again. There is also no developer-visible signal (no callback/error/acknowledgement) that the reload was ignored, so the app can’t detect the failure and can’t reliably recover the flow. Question: Is this expected behavior (throttling/cooldown) after opening the app from a widget ? If so, is there any recommended workaround to update the widget reliably and quickly (or at least detect that the reload was not accepted)? Any guidance would help.

ControlWidgetToggle image design
I need help designing the image of a ControlWidgetToggle. do I understand correctly that I can only use an SFSymbol as image and not my custom image (unless setup via a custom SFSymbol)? is there any way I can influence the size of the image? I tried multiple SwiftUI modifiers (.imageScale, .font, .resizable, .controlSize) none of them seem to work. My image remains too tiny the image size of the on and off state is different. Seems to be enforced by the system. Is there any way to make both images use the same size? the on-state tints the image. Is there a way to set the tint color? .tint and .foregroundstyle seem to be ignored. Thank you for your help

Lock Screen Quick Action Fails to Present CameraCaptureIntent View After Main App Transition
I am encountering an issue where the Lock Screen Quick Action fails to visibly open my app. My app is a camera application that utilizes a CameraCaptureIntent to launch a standalone, lightweight camera view (accessible while the device is locked), distinct from the main application. Steps to Reproduce: Open the lightweight camera view using the Lock Screen Quick Action. From this view, launch the Main App. Lock the iPhone (put it to sleep). Attempt to launch the lightweight camera view via the Quick Action again. A slight animation occurs, but the camera view does not appear on screen. After multiple tests, it seems the view is actually launching but remains in an "invisible state." I suspect that the system hides the lightweight camera view when transitioning to the Main App, but fails to reset this hidden state when the Quick Action is triggered subsequently. I would appreciate any guidance on a potential workaround or confirmation if this is a known issue awaiting a system update.

Has anyone been able to create a Control Center widget that opens a snippet view? There are stock Control Center widgets that do this, but I haven't been able to get it to work. WidgetKit (systemMedium) SwiftUI Text: auto-fit to the largest font size without “…”
Hi all, I’m stuck on a WidgetKit/SwiftUI layout issue. I have a systemMedium widget that shows a block of text. What I want is simple: The text should be as large as possible But it must always fully fit inside the widget No ellipsis (“…”) Short text → big font Longer text → shrink only as much as needed The problem: when I try to make the font larger, the widget often shows only a couple of words and then “…” (or it looks like it’s truncating/clipping), even though I’m using multiline text (lineLimit(nil) etc.). If I keep a small fixed font size, the entire text shows fine — so the input string isn’t truncated. I tried a few approaches: ViewThatFits seeing which font size fits minimumScaleFactor Measuring with NSAttributedString.boundingRect + binary search to calculate the biggest font size that should fit But WidgetKit still behaves inconsistently and I can’t get a reliable “largest size that fits” result. Is there a recommended, production-safe way to do this in WidgetKit? Also: can a SwiftUI Text still end up showing “…” in a widget even with .lineLimit(nil) when it’s constrained vertically? Thanks in advance — any pointers or known patterns would really help.

Thanks.

watchOS Smart Stack widget background
A watchOS widget requires you set a container background: .containerBackground(for: .widget) { Color.black } But I see some .accessoryRectangular widgets, on the Smart Stack, using a glass background. From what I know there is no way to set this using .containerBackground. Does anyone know how to do this? Thank you

Control Center widget won't show snippet view
Has anyone been able to create a Control Center widget that opens a snippet view? There are stock Control Center widgets that do this, but I haven't been able to get it to work. Here's what I tried: struct SnippetButton: ControlWidget { var body: some ControlWidgetConfiguration { StaticControlConfiguration( kind: "xxx.xxx.snippetWidget" ) { ControlWidgetButton(action: SnippetIntent()) { Label("Show Snippet", systemImage: "map.fill") } } .displayName(LocalizedStringResource("Show Snippet")) .description("Show a snippet.") } } struct SnippetIntent: ControlConfigurationIntent { static var title: LocalizedStringResource = "Show a snippet" static var description = IntentDescription("Show a snippet with some text.") @MainActor func perform() async throws -> some IntentResult & ProvidesDialog & ShowsSnippetView { return .result(dialog: IntentDialog("Hello!"), view: SnippetView()) } } struct SnippetView: View { var body: some View { Text("Hello!") } }
