Assistance with Adding Subdomain to Apple Sandbox Domain List
Hi team, I'm currently trying to add a specific subdomain (with a path) to Apple's Sandbox domain list, but it seems Apple only allows the main domain to be entered. Due to strict client security policies, we aren't allowed to use just the main domain, which is creating a roadblock in our implementation. Is there any way to add a full subdomain or URL path to the Sandbox configuration? I'm happy to join a call to explain the scenario further if that would help. Thanks in advance for your support!

Question about BGAppRefreshTask approach for medication scheduling app
I'm developing a medication scheduling app similar to Apple Health's Medications feature, and I'd like some input on my current approach to background tasks. In my app, when a user creates a medication, I generate ScheduledDose objects (with corresponding local notifications) for the next 2 weeks and save them to SwiftData. To ensure this 2-week window stays current, I've implemented a BGAppRefreshTask that runs daily to generate new doses as needed. My concern is whether BGAppRefreshTask is the appropriate mechanism for this purpose. Since I'm not making any network requests but rather generating and storing local data, I'm questioning if this is the right approach. I'm also wondering how Apple Health's Medications feature handles this kind of scheduling. Their app seems to maintain future doses regardless of app usage patterns. Has anyone implemented something similar or can suggest the best background execution API for this type of scenario? Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

iOS VPN Issue -Disconnecting VPN from Packet Tunnel Network Extension Causes Loss of Internet Connectivity
Feedback Ticket: FB13812251 Problem Statement: We are currently facing internet connectivity issue with our VPN application where we try to disconnect the VPN from the Packet Tunnel Network Extension using - (void)cancelTunnelWithError:(nullable NSError *)error. Which API to use to disconnect the VPN from Packet Tunnel as VPN app is not running such that device retains its internet connectivity as soon as VPN disconnects. Configuration: We have configured PacketTunnelProvider with the following settings: (NETunnelProviderManager *)tunnelProvider.protocolConfiguration.includeAllNetworks = YES; (NETunnelProviderManager *)tunnelProvider.protocolConfiguration.excludeLocalNetworks = NO; (NETunnelProviderManager *)tunnelProvider.protocolConfiguration.enforceRoutes = NO; These settings are applied from the VPN app and allow us to successfully establish a VPN connection, with all traffic being routed through the tunnel as expected. We are setting above properties to address local net attack. Issue we are facing: However, we encounter a problem when we attempt to disconnect the VPN from. When we call the following method from PacketTunnel network extension: (void)cancelTunnelWithError:(nullable NSError *)error Upon calling this method, the VPN disconnects as expected, but the device loses all internet connectivity and is unable to access any resources. This is not the desired behavior. Observation : Interestingly, when we call the following method from the app side. The VPN disconnects and the device retains its internet connectivity. [enabledConfig.connection stopVPNTunnel]; We would like to achieve the same behavior when disconnecting the VPN from the Network Extension. So we are looking for an API that could be called from NE without causing any internet connectivity issue. Any guidance on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Port 5000 blocked by ControlCenter on M4 Pro Mac (403 from browser/Postman)
I'm running a Node.js server on my MacBook with Apple M4 Pro chip, macOS Sequoia 15.4, and Node.js v23.10.0. The server starts normally on port 5000 and logs show that it's listening correctly. However, when I try to access it via browser or Postman (http://localhost:5000/api/...), I get a 403 Forbidden error. After checking with lsof -i :5000, I noticed that the ControlCenter process is listening on port 5000 under the name commplex-main. Interestingly, this doesn't happen on M3 Pro machines. On those devices, Node.js runs fine on port 5000 and can be accessed from Postman and browsers. Is port 5000 now internally reserved by macOS or used by some system-level service in Sequoia or Apple Silicon (M4 Pro)? Should I avoid using this port going forward? Any official clarification would be appreciated.

How to develop system extension if System Integrity Protection is enabled?
Hi I am developing the packet tunnel extension on a SIP enabled device. If I build the app and notarize and install it on the device, it works fine. If I modify, build and execute the App (which contains the system extension), it fails with below error. 102.3.1.4 is production build. And 201.202.0.101 is for XCode build. SystemExtension "<<complete name>>.pkttunnel" request for replacement from 102.3.1.4 to 201.202.0.101 Packet Tunnel SystemExtension "<<complete name>>.pkttunnel" activation request did fail: Error Domain=OSSystemExtensionErrorDomain Code=8 "(null)" If SIP is disabled, it works fine. Is there a way the system extension can be developed even if SIP remains enabled?

Crashes with Rosetta after Sonoma update (crash reports).
Hello. We have an app and a custom dylib hat seems to be crashing only when Rosetta is involved. I believe it's the custom DYLIB that crashes. Here are some observations. The issue happens on the older 2022 built DYLIB (Intel only) And the newer DYLIB built (Universal) The universal DYLIB works fine natively on both Intel and M1 machines. It's only when we access it through an Intel only .app and it's running with Rosetta that we see the crash. The older Intel only .DYLIB worked perfectly with the same testing .app in versions before Sonoma, now they crash with the same .app, same build. Crash reports have been all over the place, they vary but repeat themselves. It has been a little confusing as to how to approach this issue and would appreciate any input that can help us understand what is going wrong and how to move forward. Crash reports are attached Crash Report 1 Crash Report 2 Crash Report 3 The crash occurs as SIGSEGV Version: 2.0 (1) Code Type: X86-64 (Translated) Parent Process: launchd [1] User ID: 501 Date/Time: 2025-04-14 19:55:06.0103 +0200 OS Version: macOS 14.6 (23G5075b) Report Version: 12 Anonymous UUID: A08ECCFA-BF01-8636-7453-E4476586D3A8 Time Awake Since Boot: 3900 seconds System Integrity Protection: enabled Notes: PC register does not match crashing frame (0x0 vs 0x102920144) Crashed Thread: 10 Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x000000011d052840 Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000001, 0x000000011d052840 Termination Reason: Namespace SIGNAL, Code 11 Segmentation fault: 11 Terminating Process: exc handler [3174] VM Region Info: 0x11d052840 is not in any region. Transaction.currentEntitlements failing every time
I am shown as being subscribed to our service in the Subscriptions list in settings yet when going to the Storekit2 page in my app it shows me as NOT being subscribed and is unresponsive. I select Restore Subscription, that grays briefly, asks for a password, then returns to blue and nothing else happens. Bouncing back and forth between monthly and yearly likewise gives no response. The Transaction.currentEntitlements seems to be empty so it thinks the user is not subscribed. I have unsubscribed, and resubscribed via the Settings page to no avail.

What is the point of the Unified Logging System and the new `Logger` API if it's so inflexible and clumsy?
Hi there! Sorry in advance, this is going to be a long post of Apple developer pains which I want to share with you, and, hopefully, find the answer and help Apple become better. I'm at the very beginning of my new and exciting personal project which (I hope) may one day feed me and be my daily source of inspiration. I'm not a newbie in Apple development nor am I a senior-level developer — just a fellow developa'. Here's the problem I bring to you — why Apple promotes Unified Logging System and recommends using it as the primary way to implement logging in 3rd-party apps? No doubt, OSLog is a great, secure, efficient, and centralized way to gather diagnostics information, and I, starting my new project, am itching to choose exactly this 1st-party logging infrastructure. This decision in theory has a number of benefits: I don't have to depend on 3rd-party logging frameworks which may eventually be discontinued; I have extensive documentation, great WWDC sessions explaining how to use the framework, and stackoverflow answers from the whole Apple dev community in case I experience any troubles; I have this cool Console.app and upcoming Xcode 15 tools with great visualization and filtering of my logs; It's quite a robust and stable infrastructure which I may restfully rely on. But... the thing is there's this big elephant in the room — this API is non-customizable, inconvenient, and hard to use in terms of the app architecture. I can't write my own protocol wrapper around it to abstract my domain logic from implementation details or just simplify the usage at the call site. I can't configure my own format for log messages (this is debatable, since Console.app doesn't provide "naked strings" as Xcode 14 and earlier, but still). And what's most important — I can't conveniently retrieve the logs! I can't implement the functionality where my user just taps the button, and the logs are sent on the background queue to my support email (eskimo's answer). They would have to go through this monstrous procedure of holding volume buttons on the iPhone, connecting their device to the Mac, gathering sysdiagnose, entering some weird Terminal commands (jeez, these nerdy developers...), etc. If it ever succeeds, of course, and something doesn't go wrong, leaving my user angry and dissatisfied with my app. Regarding the protocol wrapper, I can't do something like this: protocol Logging { var logger: Logger { get } func info(_ message: OSLogMessage) } extension Logging { var logger: Logger { return Logger( subsystem: "com.my.bundle.id", category: String(describing: Self.self) ) } func info(_ message: OSLogMessage) { logger.info(message) } } class MyClass: Logging { func someImportantMethod() { // ... self.info("Some useful debug info: \(someVar, privacy: .public)") } } I've been investigating this topic for 2 days, and it's the farthest I want to go in beating my head over how to do two simple things: How to isolate logging framework implementation decision from my main code and write convenience wrappers? How to easily transfer the log files from the user to the developer? And I'm not the only one struggling. Here's just one example among hundreds of other questions that are being asked on dev forums: https://www.hackingwithswift.com/forums/ios/unified-logging-system-retrieve-logs-on-device/838. I've read almost all Apple docs which describe the modern Unified Logging System, I've read through eskimo's thread on Apple Developer Forum about the API, but I still haven't found the answer. Maybe, I've misperceived this framework and it's not the tool I'm searching for? Maybe, it focuses on different aspects of logging, e.g. signposting, rather than logging the current state of the app? What am I missing?

What's the non-sandboxed path to Downloads folder on the iPhone
I'm trying to construct a URL that, when tapped, would launch Files app and open the Downloads folder on the iPhone (not in iCloud Drive). I know the URL scheme is shareddocuments but I can't figure out the path. I have tried a few things including writing a simple iOS app and using Scriptable app. But I always get a sandboxed path such as /private/var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/87CC2F48-AF1C-4C80-8D75-B6CC1FC642E3/Downloads/. But that wouldn't work across devices. Does anyone happen to know the path or a method to obtain the non-sandboxed path? Thanks. PS I already figured out the Downloads folder in iCloud Drive, which is shareddocuments:///private/var/mobile/Library/Mobile%20Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs/Downloads. But what I need is the one on the iPhone.

StoreKit2: .purchase() not working after expiry of subscription in app, but renewing in AppStore sandbox does...
Hi, thanks for reading my question. I need help with some odd behaviour with product.purchase() not triggering a confirmation dialog after a subscription has expired and trying to purchase it again. Seeing this in iOS 16.2 and 15.7.2 (haven't tried any other versions) on actual devices, not in simulator. I'm using a sandbox user on the sandbox environment (not using the local store kit config file testing option). Using a newly created sandbox user, first subscription purchase goes through just fine, dialog box pops up, login with sandbox user, get confirmation of purchase and then Transaction.currentEntitlements has one item as expected. It auto renews for 12 times (each time Transaction.currentEntitlements contains the correct results) and then expires, as expected for sandbox. Transaction.currentEntitlements is then also empty, as expected. All good so far. Now I want to test purchasing it again...Call product.purchase() again to renew/start a new subscription and nothing happens, no confirm purchase dialog box pops up at all. The purchase function simply exits BUT returns success (as in the following gets called) but in self.updatePurchasedProducts(), Transaction.currentEntitlements is empty. case let .success(.verified(transaction)):      // Successful purchase       await transaction.finish()      await self.updatePurchasedProducts() if I instead go to Settings->App Store->Sandbox User-> Manage Subscriptions and renew the subscription there, instead of in my app, then Transaction.currentEntitlements has a new entry and all is good again. Alternatively, if I create yet another new sandbox user and logout of the old one I was using, I am once again able to purchase from within the app, so .purchase() once again works as normal. Is there something I am missing about expired subscriptions and trying to purchase them again in the app? Is this a sandbox issue and in production I'll have no problem? The sandbox user has purchasing enabled in Settings->App Store. I've also tried calling AppStore.sync() (which is in my "Restore Purchase" button) before calling product.purchase() after the subscription stops renewing, expires and this issue comes up, doesn't resolve it. Also have a less important question, the initial call to product.purchase(), the one that works as expected, has a bit of a delay before the confirmation dialog pops up, a few seconds, which will probably result in the user clicking the buy button again thinking it didn't work. Is a bit of a delay normal for sandbox? Will it be ok in production? When it fails, and I have to renew in Settings->AppStore->Sandbox user, there's also a bit of a delay after I return to my app, 5-15 or so seconds, before the transaction observer fires and currentEntitlements is checked again, is there a way to reduce this delay? Thank you! Colin @MainActor class IAPManager: NSObject, ObservableObject {  // removed other functions.....   func purchase(_ product: Product) async throws {    let result = try await product.purchase()     switch result {    case let .success(.verified(transaction)):      // Successful purchase       await transaction.finish()      await self.updatePurchasedProducts()    case let .success(.unverified(_, error)):       break     case .pending:       break     case .userCancelled:       break     @unknown default:       break   } }  func updatePurchasedProducts() async {     for await result in Transaction.currentEntitlements {       guard case .verified(let transaction) = result else {         continue       }       if transaction.revocationDate == nil {         self.purchasedProductIDs.insert(transaction.productID)       } else {         self.purchasedProductIDs.remove(transaction.productID)       }     }   } }

Real time collaboration app
Good day, this is a concept maybe newbie question… what would be the best approach to develop the real time app… what I want is to be able to connect one device to other one within the app, and for example, if the app has a draggable object, then if one user drags the object, the other user see the object moving in real time I his own device, maybe using a ghost mode when interacting… this way both users using the app can interact with the objects in real-time. It’s not a game, so there’s no score… could I use gamecenter? or multipeer connectivity over BT? Is there a native framework? wich would be the easiest and less battery and system consuming approach someone could suggest? thank you in advance….

Use cellular data on the app while connected to hardware's wifi that doesn't have internet connection
Hello, I am in a very similar situation as described in the thread: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/655183 Context: I am working on an app that receives data from a hardware device through its Wifi network, and the hardware is not connected to the internet. Now, I would need to call some API while still connected to hardware so I would need to use the cellular data. As mentioned on the thread, I can achieve this via Network framework, using the requiredInterfaceType property. But Is there any other way I can achieve this? I can also do some suggestion on the hardware if that's helpful. Thank you!

Cannot submit App with "Default Translation Extension"
We developed a "Default Translation App" following the guide: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/translationuiprovider/preparing-your-app-to-be-the-default-translation-app. I have already configured everything that needs to be configured according to the document, but there is still this problem

StoreKit2: .purchase() not working after expiry of subscription in app, but renewing in AppStore sandbox does...
Hi, thanks for reading my question. I need help with some odd behaviour with product.purchase() not triggering a confirmation dialog after a subscription has expired and trying to purchase it again. Seeing this in iOS 16.2 and 15.7.2 (haven't tried any other versions) on actual devices, not in simulator. I'm using a sandbox user on the sandbox environment (not using the local store kit config file testing option). Using a newly created sandbox user, first subscription purchase goes through just fine, dialog box pops up, login with sandbox user, get confirmation of purchase and then Transaction.currentEntitlements has one item as expected. It auto renews for 12 times (each time Transaction.currentEntitlements contains the correct results) and then expires, as expected for sandbox. Transaction.currentEntitlements is then also empty, as expected. All good so far. Now I want to test purchasing it again...Call product.purchase() again to renew/start a new subscription and nothing happens, no confirm purchase dialog box pops up at all. The purchase function simply exits BUT returns success (as in the following gets called) but in self.updatePurchasedProducts(), Transaction.currentEntitlements is empty. case let .success(.verified(transaction)):      // Successful purchase       await transaction.finish()      await self.updatePurchasedProducts() if I instead go to Settings->App Store->Sandbox User-> Manage Subscriptions and renew the subscription there, instead of in my app, then Transaction.currentEntitlements has a new entry and all is good again. Alternatively, if I create yet another new sandbox user and logout of the old one I was using, I am once again able to purchase from within the app, so .purchase() once again works as normal. Is there something I am missing about expired subscriptions and trying to purchase them again in the app? Is this a sandbox issue and in production I'll have no problem? The sandbox user has purchasing enabled in Settings->App Store. I've also tried calling AppStore.sync() (which is in my "Restore Purchase" button) before calling product.purchase() after the subscription stops renewing, expires and this issue comes up, doesn't resolve it. Also have a less important question, the initial call to product.purchase(), the one that works as expected, has a bit of a delay before the confirmation dialog pops up, a few seconds, which will probably result in the user clicking the buy button again thinking it didn't work. Is a bit of a delay normal for sandbox? Will it be ok in production? When it fails, and I have to renew in Settings->AppStore->Sandbox user, there's also a bit of a delay after I return to my app, 5-15 or so seconds, before the transaction observer fires and currentEntitlements is checked again, is there a way to reduce this delay? Thank you! Colin @MainActor class IAPManager: NSObject, ObservableObject {  // removed other functions.....   func purchase(_ product: Product) async throws {    let result = try await product.purchase()     switch result {    case let .success(.verified(transaction)):      // Successful purchase       await transaction.finish()      await self.updatePurchasedProducts()    case let .success(.unverified(_, error)):       break     case .pending:       break     case .userCancelled:       break     @unknown default:       break   } }  func updatePurchasedProducts() async {     for await result in Transaction.currentEntitlements {       guard case .verified(let transaction) = result else {         continue       }       if transaction.revocationDate == nil {         self.purchasedProductIDs.insert(transaction.productID)       } else {         self.purchasedProductIDs.remove(transaction.productID)       }     }   } }

Thank you!
