iOS 18.4.1 Keyboard Extension Dark Mode Background Issue
Background Color Issue in Custom Keyboard Extension in Dark Mode for iOS 18.4.1 Issue Description I'm developing a custom keyboard extension for iOS 18.4.1 and experiencing an issue with background colors when using Dark Mode. After a user makes a selection from a menu in the keyboard, the background color of a view unexpectedly changes to white instead of maintaining the dark theme color. Steps to Reproduce Enable Dark Mode on the device Activate the custom keyboard in any text field Perform a specific interaction (selecting an item from a menu) After selection, the background of the view turns white instead of remaining dark Technical Details The issue appears to be related to UIScrollView's background color behavior The problem doesn't occur on initial display of the menu, only after user interaction I've attempted to set background colors explicitly on the view hierarchy, but the issue persists Environment iOS 18.4.1 Xcode 16.0 Custom keyboard extension Questions Has anyone encountered similar issues with view background colors changing after user interactions in keyboard extensions on iOS 18.4.1? Is there a recommended approach to maintain dark background colors in keyboard extensions after user selections? Could this be related to a change in how UIScrollView handles background colors in recent iOS versions? Thank you for any assistance or insights.

CarPlay selection highlightning
It looks like I'm one of the rare developers dealing with CarPlay... I develop a CarPlay extension for my apps. A few things: especially when using the CarPlay I/O window in iOS Simulator, I get random selection highlightning for list items: I have three list templates in a tab template; once I reselect a list using the tab which has been selected before, the initial list item highlights / returns to normal every refresh of the list content; while this doesn't happen for my real world Sony CarPlay device, I'd rather not see such disturbing highlighting for my users. I do not update the template structs or items here, it is just content like text of detailText I update. Question: how to remove highlightning programmatically - especially for devices with touch screen? I have one user who reports auto-selection of UI elements while driving; I assume this is some problem with his touch screen, but it may be a general issue too. Question: anyone with similar observations connecting my iPhone to the stand-alone Car Play simulator doesn't work; I had it working before, so it might be related to a recent iOS beta... Any hints / observations are welcome. The CarPlay community really seems to be small and I'd like to hear other's experience on the named items.

Double < Back Button Issue Reappears in DocumentGroup on Xcode 16.3 + iOS 18.4+
The workaround of using .toolbarRole(.automatic) in DocumentGroup to avoid the double back button no longer works on Xcode 16.3 + iOS 18.4 and above. SwitUI preview loads indefinitely
Hi! I develop an iOS library and I met an issue with SwiftUI previews in iOS app project with my library integrated. After I open preview, build for preview finishes successfully, but preview itself never appears. I failed to find any error messages or any other indicators of what went wrong or how to fix it. Switching to legacy preview execution seems to fix problem, but I think that is not ideal. Could you help fixing this? Food-Truck-Sample navigation broken from Live Activity?
https://github.com/apple/sample-food-truck Hi! I'm seeing what looks like some weird navigation issue in the Food Truck app. It's from the Live Activity that should deep link to a specific point in the app. There seems be some state where the app is not linking to the correct component. Here are my repro steps on iPhone: Start live activity from OrderDetailView. Navigate to Sidebar component. Tap the Live Activity. App opens TruckView. The App should be opening the OrderDetailView for the Order that was passed to the Live Activity. This seems to work when the app is not currently on Sidebar. Any ideas? I'm testing this on iPhone OS 18.4.1. Is this an issue inside NavigationSplitView? Is this an issue with how Food Truck handles deeplinking?

UIViewRepresentable never dismantled on deletion (MEMORY LEAK)
I have find out that a UIViewRepresentable, even with a simples UIView, seems to never be dismantled when deleted from a ForEach and this can cause serious crashes. In the following example you can observe this behavior by deleting a row from the list. The dismantleUIView function of SomeUIViewRepresentable or the deinit of SomeUIView are never called. Has anyone faced this and found a solution for it? I have also filled a Feedback: FB11979117 class SomeUIView: UIView {     deinit {         print(#function)     } } struct SomeUIViewRepresentable: UIViewRepresentable {     func makeUIView(context: Context) -> SomeUIView {         let uiView = SomeUIView()         uiView.backgroundColor = .systemBlue         return uiView     }     func updateUIView(_ uiView: SomeUIView, context: Context) { }     static func dismantleUIView(_ uiView: SomeUIView, coordinator: Coordinator) {         print(#function)     } } struct Model: Identifiable {     let id = UUID() } struct ContentView: View {     @State var models = [Model(), Model(), Model(), Model(), Model()]     var body: some View {         List {             ForEach(models) { _ in                 SomeUIViewRepresentable()             }             .onDelete {                 models.remove(atOffsets: $0)             }         }     } }

-applicationDockMenu: method on NSApplicationDelegate doesn't work when attached to debugger
When I add a simple menu to the dock via the NSApplicationDelegate method -applicationDockMenu: and run the app from Xcode it doesn't work. -(NSMenu*)applicationDockMenu:(NSApplication*)sender { NSMenu *dockMenu = [self buildDockMenu]; if (dockMenu != nil) { NSLog(@"Returning dock menu."); return dockMenu; } else { NSLog(@"Not ready to build dock menu"); return nil; } } When I run the app, my main app window shows up but nothing logs out in -applicationDockMenu: until I click outside my app's window (so if I click the desktop background, or a Finder window, or whatever). Then after I click outside my app's main window this logs out: Returning dock menu. The "Not ready to build dock menu" message does not log out. But...when I right click on the dock icon, the menu doesn't show up. But if I stop the app from Xcode and just run it not attached to the debugger, the dock menu does show up. But this makes the debugging/testing situation not ideal.

Keep ScrollView position when adding items on the top
I am using a LayzVStack embedded into a ScrollView. The list items are fetched from a core data store by using a @FetchResult or I tested it also with the new @Query command coming with SwiftData. The list has one hundred items 1, 2, 3, ..., 100. The user scrolled the ScrollView so that items 50, 51, ... 60 are visible on screen. Now new data will be fetched from the server and updates the CoreData or SwiftData model. When I add new items to the end of the list (e.g 101, 102, 103, ...) then the ScrollView is keeping its position. Opposite to this when I add new items to the top (0, -1, -2, -3, ...) then the ScrollView scrolls down. Is there a way with the new SwiftData and SwiftUI ScrollView modifiers to update my list model without scrolling like with UIKit where you can query and set the scroll offset pixel wise?

Scene.windowIdealSize(.fitToContent) seems not working
Hi everyone, Something didn't work in my environment so I wrote some demo code: import SwiftUI @main struct DemoApp: App { var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { Color.accentColor.opacity(1/4) .frame(idealWidth: 800, idealHeight: 800) } .windowIdealSize(.fitToContent) } } I expected a 800*800 window (then +28pt top) using .windowIdealSize(.fitToContent). Otherwise I can't control these views that use up available space such as Color, Spacer, GeometryReader, etc. Was I missing something? Or this is a problem or intended framework design? Environments: macOS 15.4.1 (24E263) and 15.5 beta 4 (24F5068b) Xcode 16.3 (16E140)

Occasional Keyboard Cannot Hide in iOS16.5
Help,I have encountered a thorny problem! In systems with iOS 16.5 and above, there is a probability that the keyboard will not disappear after it appears. And once it appears, unless the app is restarted, all places where the keyboard is used cannot be closed. I have tried using the forced shutdown method [UIView endEditing:YES], but it didn't work. When this exception occurs, I notice that there will be two UITextEffectsWindow at the same time. Does anyone know how to solve it?

How do you restore a Sheet's window frame in SwiftUI for macOS
On macOS, it's not uncommon to present windows as sheets that can be resized. By setting the NSWindow's various frame auto save properties, you can restore the size of the sheet the next time it is presented. When presenting a Sheet from within SwiftUI using the .sheet view modifier, how can I preserve and restore the sheet's frame size? The closest I've been able to come is to put the SwiftUI view into a custom NSHostingController and then into an NSViewControllerRepresentable and then override viewWillAppear and look for self.view.window, which is all little awkward. Is there a more idiomatic way to achieve this in "pure" SwiftUI?

Can SwiftUI TextFields in a List on macOS be marked as always editable?
In SwiftUI's List, on macOS, if I embed a TextField then the text field is presented as non-editable. If the user clicks on the text and waits a short period of time, the text field will become editable. I'm aware this is generally the correct behaviour for macOS. However, is there a way in SwiftUI to supress this behaviour such that the TextField is always presented as being editable? I want a scrollable, List of editable text fields, much like how a Form is presented. The reason I'm not using a Form is because I want List's support for reordering by drag-and-drop (.onMove). Use Case A view that allows a user to compose a questionnaire. They are able to add and remove questions (rows) and each question is editable. They require drag-and-drop support so that they can reorder the questions.

Crash/Glitch when using setViewControllers(_:animated:) with UIHostingController and .refreshable in SwiftUI
Introduction Hello, As part of our ongoing migration to SwiftUI, we are currently managing navigation using UIKit. Our SwiftUI views are embedded in UIHostingController instances and pushed or presented via UINavigationController. We’ve encountered an issue that causes either a UI glitch on iOS 18 or a crash on iOS 17 when using the .refreshable modifier in a SwiftUI view that is added to a UINavigationController via setViewControllers(_:animated:). To reproduce the issue, we’re using the following simple SwiftUI view: struct TestView: View { var body: some View { List { ForEach(0...100, id: \.self) { Text("Number: \($0)") } } .refreshable { // No action needed — the presence of this modifier alone triggers the issue } } } Problematic Scenario The following code causes the issue: class ViewController: UIViewController { override func viewDidAppear(_ animated: Bool) { super.viewDidAppear(animated) let initialNav = self.navigationController let hostingController = UIHostingController(rootView: TestView()) let newNav = UINavigationController() // This causes a freeze (iOS 18) or crash (iOS 17) newNav.setViewControllers([hostingController], animated: true) initialNav?.present(newNav, animated: true) } } After presenting the navigation controller, our app is freezing on iOS 18 or crashing on iOS 17. Working scenario When using pushViewController(_:animated:), the issue does not occur: class ViewController: UIViewController { override func viewDidAppear(_ animated: Bool) { super.viewDidAppear(animated) let initialNav = self.navigationController let hostingController = UIHostingController(rootView: TestView()) let newNav = UINavigationController() // This works without issue newNav.pushViewController(hostingController, animated: true) initialNav?.present(newNav, animated: true) } } Conclusion We would like to better understand the root cause of this behavior. While using pushViewController is a viable workaround, there are scenarios where we must rely on setViewControllers, and currently, that approach breaks the experience or crashes the app. Is this a known issue, or are we missing something about how UIHostingController interacts with .refreshable in this context? Thanks for your time — we look forward to any insights you can share.

Cannot configure contentShape for final preview of .contextMenu(menuItems: , preview: )
Without using a custom preview, you can set .contentShape(RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 30)) so that in the "zoomed in" preview of the contextMenu you can have a custom cornerRadius. However, this does not work if you create a custom preview, because then the ContentShape gets applied only to the LIFT PREVIEW, and not to the FINAL PREVIEW state. Heres a sample code - I'd love some support! :) import SwiftUI struct ContentView: View { var body: some View { VStack { Rectangle() .fill(Color.blue) .frame(width: 300, height: 300) .cornerRadius(30) .contentShape(.contextMenuPreview, RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 30)) .contextMenu { Button("Hello") {} Button("Goofy") {} } preview: { Rectangle() .fill(Color.blue) .frame(width: 300, height: 300) .cornerRadius(30) //.contentShape(RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 30)) //.contentShape(.contextMenuPreview, RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 30)) } Text("contextMenu item with large cornerRadius is not working as expected... No way to set contentShape to custom corner radius for final preview - not the lift preview") } } }

Using .searchable inside NavigationStack inside TabView (iOS)
I noticed that when using .searchable inside a NavigationStack thats inside a TabView, the searchbar briefly overlays the content before disappearing. After that, it is hidden and appears as expected when swiping down. This only happens when the .searchable is inside the NavigationStack, there is at least one navigationTitle and the NavigationStack is inside a TabView. Tested on simulator and real device. I would appreciate any help. Thanks! struct FirstScreen: View { var body: some View { TabView { Tab("Tab", systemImage: "heart") { NavigationStack { NavigationLink { SecondScreen() } label: { Text("Go to second screen") } .navigationTitle("First Screen") } } } } } struct SecondScreen: View { @State private var text: String = "" var body: some View { List { Text("Some view that extends all the way to the top") } .searchable(text: $text) .navigationTitle("Second Screen") } }

Open new document in SwiftUI on iOS
I have a SwiftUI document based app. The iOS version has a Scene Delegate: class SceneDelegate: NSObject, UIWindowSceneDelegate { func scene(_ scene: UIScene, openURLContexts URLContexts: Set<UIOpenURLContext>) { for context in URLContexts { let url = context.url // url.scheme = my custom scheme let text = ... extracted from url ... // I want to open a new untitled document with text // but 'newDocument' has been explicitly marked unavailable for iOS } } }

DocumentGroupLaunchScene corrupts the toolbar for DocumentGroup content views.
The sample code provided in "Building a document-based app with SwiftUI" (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/swiftui/building-a-document-based-app-with-swiftui) does not work as expected. The DocumentGroup/StoryView toolbar does not appear for documents opened in the App. By removing the DocumentGroupLaunchScene block from the App the toolbar does appear and works as expected - but of course the App's DocumentGroupLaunchScene customizations are lost. I've tested this on 18.0 devices, as well as production 18.0 and 18.1 beta 6 simulators. If I modify the StoryView by wrapping the content in a NavigationStack I can make some progress - but the results are unstable and hard to pin down - with this change the first time a document is opened in the WritingApp the toolbar appears as expected. When opening a document subsequently the toolbar is corrupted. Please is this a bug or is there a good example of incorporate both DocumentGroupLaunchScene customizations at the App level and retina the toolbar in documents presented via DocumentGroup?

NewDocumentButton in DocumentGroupLauchScene crashes for SwiftData Document-Based App
I have a SwiftData document-based app. It is initialized like this: @main struct MyApp: App { @State private var showTemplatePicker = false @State private var documentCreationContinuation: CheckedContinuation<URL?, any Error>? var body: some Scene { DocumentGroup(editing: .myDocument, migrationPlan: MyMigrationPlan.self) { CanvasView() } DocumentGroupLaunchScene(Text("My App")) { NewDocumentButton("New", contentType: .canvasDocument) { try await withCheckedThrowingContinuation { continuation in documentCreationContinuation = continuation showTemplatePicker = true } } .fullScreenCover(isPresented: $showTemplatePicker) { TemplateView(documentCreationContinuation: $documentCreationContinuation) } } background: { Image("BoardVignette") .resizable() } } } extension UTType { static var canvasDocument: UTType { UTType(importedAs: "com.example.MyApp.canvas") } } Pressing the New button crashes with: #0 0x00000001d3a6e12c in (1) suspend resume partial function for closure #1 () async -> () in SwiftUI.IdentifiedDocumentGroupDocumentCreation.createNewDocument(with: SwiftUI.IdentifiedDocumentGroupConfiguration, url: Swift.Optional<Foundation.URL>, newDocumentProvider: Swift.Optional<SwiftUI.AsyncNewDocumentProvider>, _: (Swift.Optional<SwiftUI.PlatformDocument>) -> ()) -> () () All sample code that I've seen uses a FileDocument but SwiftData's setup doesn't have one so it's not completely clear how you should be using NewDocumentButton with a SwiftData file. The crash happens even before my prepareDocumentURL handler is called (I set a breakpoint and it never stops). My hunch is that the crash is because it's not able to match my contentType to a Document. Can anyone at Apple help? I don't think this use-case has been documented well.

Without using a custom preview, you can set .contentShape(RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 30)) so that in the "zoomed in" preview of the contextMenu you can have a custom cornerRadius. However, this does not work if you create a custom preview, because then the ContentShape gets applied only to the LIFT PREVIEW, and not to the FINAL PREVIEW state. Heres a sample code - I'd love some support! :) import SwiftUI struct ContentView: View { var body: some View { VStack { Rectangle() .fill(Color.blue) .frame(width: 300, height: 300) .cornerRadius(30) .contentShape(.contextMenuPreview, RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 30)) .contextMenu { Button("Hello") {} Button("Goofy") {} } preview: { Rectangle() .fill(Color.blue) .frame(width: 300, height: 300) .cornerRadius(30) //.contentShape(RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 30)) //.contentShape(.contextMenuPreview, RoundedRectangle(cornerRadius: 30)) } Text("contextMenu item with large cornerRadius is not working as expected... No way to set contentShape to custom corner radius for final preview - not the lift preview") } } }

Using .searchable inside NavigationStack inside TabView (iOS)
I noticed that when using .searchable inside a NavigationStack thats inside a TabView, the searchbar briefly overlays the content before disappearing. After that, it is hidden and appears as expected when swiping down. This only happens when the .searchable is inside the NavigationStack, there is at least one navigationTitle and the NavigationStack is inside a TabView. Tested on simulator and real device. I would appreciate any help. Thanks! struct FirstScreen: View { var body: some View { TabView { Tab("Tab", systemImage: "heart") { NavigationStack { NavigationLink { SecondScreen() } label: { Text("Go to second screen") } .navigationTitle("First Screen") } } } } } struct SecondScreen: View { @State private var text: String = "" var body: some View { List { Text("Some view that extends all the way to the top") } .searchable(text: $text) .navigationTitle("Second Screen") } }

Open new document in SwiftUI on iOS
I have a SwiftUI document based app. The iOS version has a Scene Delegate: class SceneDelegate: NSObject, UIWindowSceneDelegate { func scene(_ scene: UIScene, openURLContexts URLContexts: Set<UIOpenURLContext>) { for context in URLContexts { let url = context.url // url.scheme = my custom scheme let text = ... extracted from url ... // I want to open a new untitled document with text // but 'newDocument' has been explicitly marked unavailable for iOS } } }
