Child Views and ViewThatFits
I'd like to support different template views within a ViewThatFits for items within a list, allowing the list to optimize its layout for different devices. Within the child views is a Text view that is bound to the name of an item. I'd rather the Text view simply truncate the text as necessary although it instead is influencing which view is chosen by ViewThatFits. I'd also rather not artificially set the maxWidth of the Text view as it artificially limits the width on devices where it's not necessary (e.g. iPad Pro vs. iPad mini or iPhone). Any guidance or suggestions on how this can be accomplished as it looks very odd for the layout of one row in the list to be quite different than the rest of the rows.

Live Activity fails to start with "unsupportedTarget" error on iOS 18 beta
Hi all, I’m developing a timer app with Live Activity support. On iOS 18.5 (iPhone 14 Pro Max), I cannot get Live Activity to start. When I call Activity.request(...) in my main app, it throws an unsupportedTarget error, and nothing appears on the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. What I’ve done: Widget Extension Info.plist: <key>NSExtension</key> <dict> <key>NSExtensionPointIdentifier</key> <string>com.apple.widgetkit-extension</string> </dict> <key>NSSupportsLiveActivities</key> <true/> <key>NSSupportsLiveActivitiesFrequentUpdates</key> <true/> Live Activity UI: Implemented with ActivityConfiguration(for: xxx_Clock_liveactivitiesAttributes.self) and Dynamic Island support. App Group: Both main app and extension use the same App Group, and it’s enabled in Apple Developer Center and Xcode. Tested on: iPhone 14 Pro Max, iOS 18.5 (official release) Xcode [your version] (I have not tested on iOS 17.x, so I am not sure if this issue is specific to iOS 18.5.) What I’ve tried: Cleaned build folder, deleted Derived Data, uninstalled and reinstalled app. Rebooted device. Double-checked all Info.plist and entitlements settings. Tried creating a new Widget Extension from scratch. Problem: Activity.request always throws unsupportedTarget. No Live Activity appears on Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. No other errors or crashes. Questions: Has anyone encountered this issue on iOS 18.5? Are there any new requirements or changes for Live Activity in iOS 18.5? Any suggestions or workarounds to make Live Activity work? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Open file directly into editor view with DocumentGroup
This was also raised in FB17028569 I have iOS document based app using DocumentGroup. I can create and save documents as expected. All that functionality is fine. @main struct FooBarApp: App { var body: some Scene { DocumentGroup(newDocument: { FoobarDocument() }) { config in MainView(document: config.document) } The problem is when I open an app document from Files.app or Messages the document is never opened directly into the editor, the document browser interface is always presented and the user must manually select the document to open an editor. This also happens when I use UIApplication.shared.requestSceneSessionActivation(nil, userActivity: activity, options: nil) to open a new scene. The doc isn't opened into my editor. I believe my plist document types are setup correctly and that my ReferenceFileDocument is setup correctly <key>CFBundleDocumentTypes</key> <array> <dict> <key>CFBundleTypeExtensions</key> <array> <string>foobar</string> </array> <key>CFBundleTypeIconFile</key> <string>icon-128</string> <key>CFBundleTypeIconSystemGenerated</key> <integer>1</integer> <key>CFBundleTypeMIMETypes</key> <array> <string>application/json</string> </array> <key>CFBundleTypeName</key> <string>Foobar Project</string> <key>LSHandlerRank</key> <string>Owner</string> <key>LSItemContentTypes</key> <array> <string>com.digital-dirtbag.foobar</string> </array> <key>NSUbiquitousDocumentUserActivityType</key> <string>$(PRODUCT_BUNDLE_IDENTIFIER).ubiquitousdoc</string> </dict> </array> <key>UTExportedTypeDeclarations</key> <array> <dict> <key>UTTypeConformsTo</key> <array> <string>public.data</string> </array> <key>UTTypeDescription</key> <string>Foobar Project</string> <key>UTTypeIconFiles</key> <array> <string>icon-128.png</string> </array> <key>UTTypeIdentifier</key> <string>com.digital-dirtbag.foobar</string> <key>UTTypeTagSpecification</key> <dict> <key>public.filename-extension</key> <array> <string>foobar</string> </array> </dict> </dict> The question is does DocumentGroup on iOS even support opening documents directly into the editor view? I know it works on macOS as expected as I tried this with the demo code and it exhibits the same symptoms. Opening a document from iOS Files.app only gets you as far as the document browser while macOS will open an editor directly.

Intents UI Extension automatically dismisses
I am working on implementing a new Intents UI Extension and have noticed that when it is triggered via the "Hey Siri" voice command, the intent dismisses after a few seconds. However, if it is launched from the Shortcuts app, the intent remains active and does not dismiss automatically. Additionally, I’ve observed that this behavior occurs on specific iOS versions, such as 17.5.1 or 17.7. On other versions, like 17.4.1 or 18.4, the intent persists as expected. Does Siri automatically close the intent based on its own logic? Could the iOS version be influencing this behavior? Given the requirement to make the intent persistent, is there any option or configuration available to achieve this?

Some sharing extensions disabled when running iOS app with Mac Catalyst
When I run my iOS app on a Mac using Mac Catalyst, several sharing options that show up on an iOS device in a share sheet are absent on the Mac. Clicking on Edit Extensions, I see Mail, Message and AirDrop, their switches are on and disabled. All three items show up when I share from Safari or Notes. How can I make Mail, Message and AirDrop available? For example, when sharing data, no share extensions are shown. For text, only Simulator, Shortcuts and Copy are shown.

macOS Sequoia/Xcode 16.2 - Catalyst App Missing Tab Bar
My Objective-C Catalyst app when built with Xcode 16.x/iOS 18 does not have a visible Tab Bar when run on Sequoia. App starts up in first tab, but there is no way to access other tabs. The same app when run on macOS Sonoma (or macOS Catalina) has a normal Tab Bar. The app has an initial View UITabBarController with 3 tabs. The main tab is a UiSplitViewController. Minimum macOS deployment 10.5. If app is built on Sonoma with Xcode 15.x/iOS 17 the Tab Bar is normal on macOS Sonoma, Sequoia, and Catalina. I've tried without success: if (@available(macCatalyst 18.0, *)) { self.tabBarController.tabBarHidden = false; } else { // Fallback on earlier versions } I wonder if this console log message has anything to do with the problem: CLIENT OF UIKIT REQUIRES UPDATE: This process does not adopt UIScene lifecycle. This will become an assert in a future version.

CPGridTemplate in CPTabBarTemplate: Second Item Not Selecting in CarPlay Simulator
I am experiencing an issue while using CPGridTemplate within CPTabBarTemplate in my CarPlay app running in the simulator. On app launch, when I select the second item in the grid, it does not visually reflect as selected in the UI. This behavior is unexpected, as the grid item selection should update accordingly. Has anyone encountered this issue or found a solution to ensure proper item selection?

A wrinkle converting a UIKit Document-based app to SwiftUI Document Group
The app I'm converting includes two unique document types. UI-wise they have key similarities (eg contents are password protected) But serialization/model - wise. they are different documents. I have not been able to find any documentation on options for implementing this (eg use a (abstract?) base class derived from FileDocument, with two concrete sub classes? maybe just a single subclass of FileDocument that contains model details for both file types?) Stepping back from implementation options, am I crazy for attempting to use DocumentGroup to create a single app that would need to be able to open/modify/save multiple unique document types? any/all guidance much appreciated.

Is it safe to access NSPrinter.printerNames on a background thread?
I'm working on a macOS application that needs to query the list of available printers using NSPrinter.printerNames. For performance reasons, I'd like to perform this operation on a background thread. However, since NSPrinter is part of AppKit, and AppKit is generally not thread-safe unless explicitly stated, I want to confirm: Is it safe to call NSPrinter.printerNames from a background thread? I couldn’t find explicit guidance in the documentation regarding the thread-safety of printerNames, so any clarification or best practices would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Note: I tested this api on a background thread in code and it did not give any error.

Live activity widget not updated locally after server update
I am using live activity in my app. Functionality is start, update & end events are started from the server. There is one interaction button added using app intent in live activity widget. That button needs to update widget ui locally using activity kit. Issue is when os receives first start event push then update ui works fine and reflecting on live activity widget but when update notification receives by os after 1 mins then action button stops updating the ui locally. Can anyone please add some suggestions to fix this.

How remove AppIntent dialog programmatically?

PKPass Framework
I am trying to work with the data inside the barcode string in shared PKPass. The documentation shows that is should look for @property (nonatomic, readonly, nullable) PKBarcode *primaryBarcode; I have tried to use it like this guard let code = pass.primaryBarcode?.message else { return } I get a constant message that PKPass has no member primaryBarcode The PKPass.h file in my IOS SDK does not seem to include the @property primaryBarcode or @property barcode. I am running Xcode 16.4 (16F6) and my app target is 17.6 + Is there a restriction on this property? I cannot find an SDK later than mine - the App Store does not offer one. I am unsure of this is a public or private issue - does anyone know? Thanks for reading this. Max

How to customize item transitions inside a Picker View?
I have a simple Picker where the options available change by the view state. I would like to have the transition animated but the default animation is not good so I tried setting a .transition() and or an .animation() inside an item on the picker but it is ignored. The same happens if the transition is set on the picker itself since it's always present. Am I doing it right and is just not posible or is there something else to do? Code to reproduce the issue: struct ContentView: View { @State var list: [String] = [ "Item 4", "Item 5", "Item 6", "Item 7", "Item 8", ] @State var selected: String? @State var toggle: Bool = false var body: some View { VStack { Picker("List", selection: $selected) { ForEach(list, id: \.self) { Text($0).tag($0) // .transition(.opacity) } } .pickerStyle(.segmented) // .transition(.opacity) HStack { Button(action: swapOptions) { Text("Swap") } } } .padding() } } extension ContentView { func swapOptions() { withAnimation { toggle.toggle() switch toggle { case true: list = [ "Item 1", "Item 2", "Item 3", "Item 4", "Item 5", ] case false: list = [ "Item 4", "Item 5", "Item 6", "Item 7", "Item 8", ] } } } } ``

Custom, Markdown autocapitalizationType.
Hi, I've got an app that displays markdown in UITextView / NSTextView. I would like it to behave like Notes app does, that is if user types the line start modifier, e.g: "# " or "> " I would like the keyboard to show a capitalized letters. I've tried looking into overriding insertText - and it breaks the predictive text (can not insert white space). I've tried implementing UITextInputTokenizer but no luck either. Like I said, I see the Notes app does it perfectly, so maybe I'm missing something obvious or there is a way to do it without interrupting the auto-correction and predictive text. Ideally same thing can be applied to the NSTextView as the app support both platforms.

The URL authorization read and write obtained by UIDocumentPickerViewController
The URL directory obtained by UIDocumentPickerVieweController can be read and written in the directory after calling startAccessingDecurityScopeResource. However, after restarting the app, if the URL saved in the package is called startAccessingDecurityScopeResource again and returns NO, UIDocumentPickerVieweController must be called again to retrieve the URL, and then startAccessingDecurityScopeResource must be called again before continuing the operation. This is too troublesome. Is there a way to continue reading and writing operations in the URL directory after restarting the app?

Is there a way to present a fullscreen view controller and keep drawing the presenting view controller?
Looking for a solution that keeps the presented view controller fullscreen. The background is that I need to take some screenshots of the presenting view controller while the modal is onscreen. It's a pretty messy operation and we don't want to distract and delay the user by doing it before the modal is presented.

When I try to interact with the web view, the app crashes with the following errors: *** Assertion failure in -[UIGestureGraphEdge initWithLabel:sourceNode:targetNode:directed:], UIGestureGraphEdge.m:28 *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Invalid parameter not satisfying: targetNode' *** First throw call stack: (0x18e529340 0x185845e80 0x192c2283c 0x2433874d4 0x243382ebc 0x2433969a8 0x24339635c 0x243396088 0x243907760 0x2438e4c94 0x24397b488 0x24397e28c 0x243976a20 0x242d7fdc0 0x2437e6e88 0x2437e6254 0x18e4922ec 0x18e492230 0x18e49196c 0x18e48bf3c 0x18e48b798 0x1d3156090 0x2438c8530 0x2438cd240 0x19fde0d58 0x19fde0a64 0x19fa5890c 0x10503b0bc 0x10503b230 0x2572247b8) libc++abi: terminating due to uncaught exception of type NSException *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Invalid parameter not satisfying: targetNode' *** First throw call stack: (0x18e529340 0x185845e80 0x192c2283c 0x2433874d4 0x243382ebc 0x2433969a8 0x24339635c 0x243396088 0x243907760 0x2438e4c94 0x24397b488 0x24397e28c 0x243976a20 0x242d7fdc0 0x2437e6e88 0x2437e6254 0x18e4922ec 0x18e492230 0x18e49196c 0x18e48bf3c 0x18e48b798 0x1d3156090 0x2438c8530 0x2438cd240 0x19fde0d58 0x19fde0a64 0x19fa5890c 0x10503b0bc 0x10503b230 0x2572247b8) terminating due to uncaught exception of type NSException Message from debugger: killed This is the code for the RealityView struct ImmersiveView: View { @Environment(AppModel.self) private var appModel var body: some View { RealityView { content, attachments in let anchor = AnchorEntity(AnchoringComponent.Target.head) if let sceneAttachment = attachments.entity(for: "test") { sceneAttachment.position = SIMD3<Float>(0,0,-3.5) anchor.addChild(sceneAttachment) } content.add(anchor) } attachments: { Attachment(id: "test") { WebViewWrapper(webView: appModel.webViewModel.webView) } } } } This is the appModel: import SwiftUI import WebKit /// Maintains app-wide state @MainActor @Observable class AppModel { let immersiveSpaceID = "ImmersiveSpace" enum ImmersiveSpaceState { case closed case inTransition case open } var immersiveSpaceState = ImmersiveSpaceState.closed public let webViewModel = WebViewModel() } @MainActor final class WebViewModel { let webView = WKWebView() func loadViz(_ addressStr: String) { guard let url = URL(string: addressStr) else { return } webView.load(URLRequest(url: url)) } } struct WebViewWrapper: UIViewRepresentable { let webView: WKWebView func makeUIView(context: Context) -> WKWebView { webView } func updateUIView(_ uiView: WKWebView, context: Context) { } } and finally the ContentView where I added a button to load the webpage: struct ContentView: View { @Environment(AppModel.self) private var appModel var body: some View { VStack { ToggleImmersiveSpaceButton() Button("Go") { appModel.webViewModel.loadViz("http://apple.com") } } .padding() } }

macOS Sequoia/Xcode 16.2 - Catalyst App Missing Tab Bar

When the perform method of my AppIntent returns the custom view's dialog, and after I click the "Click Test" button, my app will be launched, but this dialog does not close. How can I close it? struct QuestionResultView: View { var body: some View { VStack { if #available(iOS 17.0, *) { Button(role:.cancel, intent: OpenAppIntent()) { Text("Click Test") } } }.frame(height: 300) } } struct OpenAppIntent : AppIntent { static let title: LocalizedStringResource = "Open my app" static let openAppWhenRun: Bool = true static let isDiscoverable: Bool = false; @MainActor func perform() async throws -> some IntentResult { return .result() } } struct OpenPhotoRecognizing: AppIntent { static let title: LocalizedStringResource = "Read photo" static let description = IntentDescription("") static let openAppWhenRun: Bool = false func perform() async throws -> some IntentResult & ShowsSnippetView & ProvidesDialog{ return .result(dialog: "Demo Test") { DemoResultView() } } }
