Best Way to Help Users Diagnose iOS App Crashes with No UI Feedback
Hi all, We're working on an iOS application and would like to improve our ability to diagnose failures - especially in scenarios where the app crashes before it can present any UI to the user. A few specific questions: In case of an exception or crash, is there a way to log the issue so the user (or our support team) can understand the cause of the failure? If the app crashes abruptly (e.g., due to a runtime exception or crash during launch), is there a recommended way to persist error information before the process terminates? Are there Apple-supported mechanisms (like crash reporting tools or APIs) we can integrate that would help us capture such issues? What’s the best practice for enabling support teams to assist users based on crash reports - especially for crashes that happen before any user interaction? Our goal is to make sure users aren't left in the dark if the app fails to start, and to allow us to deliver timely updates or support based on the cause of the crash. Improving references to localized strings in App Intents
In order to make referencing keys for localized strings a little more reliable, our application references generated constants for localized string keys: This eliminates the potential for developers to misspell a key when referencing a localized strings. And because these constants are automatically generated by the exact same process that provides localized strings for the application, each and every constant is guaranteed to have a localized string associated with it. I’m currently attempting to implement something similar for the localized strings referenced by our new App Intents. Our initial release of App Intent functionality is simply using string literals to reference localized strings: However, I am running into several issues when trying to reference the string keys as a constant. The closest I managed to get was defining the constant as either a LocalizationValue or as a StaticString and referencing the constant while initializing the LocalizedStringResource. With this approach, I see no errors from Xcode until I try and compile. What’s more is that the wording of the error being thrown is quite peculiar: As you can see with the sample code above, I am clearly calling LocalizedStringResource’s initializer directly as Indicated by the error. Is what I’m trying to do even possible with App Intents? From my research, it does look like iOS app localization is moving more towards using string literals for localized strings. Like with String Catalog’s ability to automatically generate entries from strings referenced in UI without the need for a key. However, we’d prefer to use constants if possible for the reasons listed above.

The URL authorization read and write obtained by UIDocumentPickerViewController
The URL directory obtained by UIDocumentPickerVieweController can be read and written in the directory after calling startAccessingDecurityScopeResource. However, after restarting the app, if the URL saved in the package is called startAccessingDecurityScopeResource again and returns NO, UIDocumentPickerVieweController must be called again to retrieve the URL, and then startAccessingDecurityScopeResource must be called again before continuing the operation. This is too troublesome. Is there a way to continue reading and writing operations in the URL directory after restarting the app?

Why app clips card action not open the main app while main app is installed?
App Clip target is added to my main app, and set associated domains such as appclips:example.com both in clip and main app. 2.Register local launch experience with url prefix https://example.com in my IPhone device. 3.Generate a QR code with this url. When scanning the QR code ,a clip card popped up, but clip the open action button ,always laugh clip not the main app although main app is already installed. How should I test the clip card to the main app route to check if the main app process the url rightly? Any suggestions are welcome.

Unexpected UINavigationBar Behavior During View Transitions in iOS 18
In iOS 18, I've observed unexpected behavior related to the UINavigationBar when transitioning between view controllers that have differing navigation bar visibility settings. Specifically, when returning from a modal presentation or a web view, the navigation bar reappears with an unexpected height (e.g., 103 points) and lacks content, displaying only an empty bar. Start with a UIViewController (e.g., HomeViewController) where the navigation bar is hidden using: override func viewWillAppear(_ animated: Bool) { super.viewWillAppear(animated) navigationController?.setNavigationBarHidden(true, animated: animated) } Present another UIViewController (e.g., a web view) modally. Dismiss the presented view controller. Observe that upon returning to HomeViewController, the navigation bar is visible with increased height and lacks expected content. Expected Behavior: The navigation bar should remain hidden upon returning to HomeViewController, maintaining the state it had prior to presenting the modal view controller. Actual Behavior: Upon dismissing the modal view controller, the navigation bar becomes visible with an unexpected height and lacks content, leading to a disrupted user interface. Additional Observations: This issue is specific to iOS 18; it does not occur in iOS 17 or earlier versions. The problem seems to stem from setting the navigation bar to be visible in the viewWillDisappear method, as shown below: override func viewWillDisappear(_ animated: Bool) { super.viewWillDisappear(animated) navigationController?.setNavigationBarHidden(false, animated: animated) } Removing or modifying this line mitigates the issue, suggesting a change in the view controller lifecycle behavior in iOS 18. How do I size a UITextView with scroll disabled?
tl;dr: UITextView does not auto layout when isScrollEnabled = false I have a screen with multiple UITextViews on it, contained within a ScrollView. For each textview, I calculate the height needed to display the entire content in SwiftUI and set it using the .frame(width:height:) modifier. The UITextView will respect the size passed in and layout within the container, but since UITextView is embedded within a UIScrollView, when a user attempts to scroll on the page, often they will scroll within a UITextView block rather than the page. They currently need to scroll along the margins outside of the textview to get the proper behavior. Since I am already calculating the height to display the text, I don't want the UITextView to scroll. However, when I set isScrollEnabled = false, the text view displays in a single long line that gets truncated. I have tried Setting various frame/size attributes but that seems to have zero affect on the layout. Embedding the textView within a UIView, and then sizing the container, but then the textView does not display at all. Setting a fixed size textContainer in the layoutManager but did not work. NSLayoutManager returning inconsistent values for a glyph's text container and its line fragment rect
TLDR: NSLayoutManager's textContainer(forGlyphAt:effectiveRange:) and lineFragmentRect(forGlyphRange:effectiveRange:) are returning inconsistent results. Context: I'm developing a word processing app that paginates from an NSTextStorage using NSLayoutManager. My app uses a text attribute (.columnType) to paginate sub-ranges of the text at a time, ensuring that each columnRange gets a container (or series of containers across page breaks) to fit. This is to support both multi-column and standard full-page-width content. After any user edit, I update pagination data in my Paginator model class. I calcuate frames/sizes for the views/containers, along with what superview they belong to (page). The UI updates accordingly. In order to determine whether the columnRange has overflowed from a container due to a page break OR whether the range of text hasn't overflowed its container and is actually using less space than available and should be sized down, I call both: layoutManager.textContainer(forGlyphAt: lastGlyphOfColumn, effectiveRange: &actualGlyphRangeInContainer)` // and `layoutManager.lineFragmentRect(forGlyphAt: lastGlyphOfColumn, effectiveRange: nil) Apple Documentation notes that both these calls force glyph generation and layout. As I'm in early development, I have not set non-contiguous layout. So these should be causing full layout, assuring accurate return values. Or so I'd hoped. This does work fine in many cases. I edit. Pagination works. But then I'll encounter UI-breaking inconsistent returns from these two calls. By inconsistent, I mean that the second call returns a line fragment rect that is in the container coordinates of A DIFFERENT container than the container returned by the first call. To be specific, the line fragment rect seems to be in the coordinates of the container that comes next in layoutManager.textContainers. A glyph couldn't fit in a container when it was 628 high, but if I size it up to 648, it only needs 14? There's something very weird going on here. Working with NSLayoutManager is a bit of a nightmare given the unclear documentation. Any help or insight here would be massively, massively appreciated.

Can the SwiftUI document architecture Take a file as read-only; never to be written out Take files too large for memory (multi-MB, or even GB) I wouldn't want the system to read a gigabyte size file into memory by default. If the system can use a memory-mapped Data as the representation, that'll be something I can make do. It would be even better if I could tell the system that I'll handle all the reading, all I need from it is a reference to the file's location on disk.

@Observable seems not to work well with generic typed throw. Tab bar inline icon text .compact mode in size classes in iPad in iOS 18..4.1
I am trying to do inline to icon and text in tab bar but it is not allowing me to do it in compact, but it showing me in regular mode , but in regular mode tab bar going at top in portrait mode , But my requirement is tab bar required in bottom with icon and text in inline it showed by horizontally but it showing to me stacked vertically, will you guide me on this so that I can push the build to live users.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE Select a text in Safari Tap on Translate in the contextual menu Swipe up on the text ->the extension expands into full mode Swipe down->only scrolls work, I cannot swipe the extension from full mode to compact mode. Expected behavior: when i swipe down on the expanded extension, the extension should get into compact mode, not continuously scroll down.

Crash/Glitch when using setViewControllers(_:animated:) with UIHostingController and .refreshable in SwiftUI
Introduction Hello, As part of our ongoing migration to SwiftUI, we are currently managing navigation using UIKit. Our SwiftUI views are embedded in UIHostingController instances and pushed or presented via UINavigationController. We’ve encountered an issue that causes either a UI glitch on iOS 18 or a crash on iOS 17 when using the .refreshable modifier in a SwiftUI view that is added to a UINavigationController via setViewControllers(_:animated:). To reproduce the issue, we’re using the following simple SwiftUI view: struct TestView: View { var body: some View { List { ForEach(0...100, id: \.self) { Text("Number: \($0)") } } .refreshable { // No action needed — the presence of this modifier alone triggers the issue } } } Problematic Scenario The following code causes the issue: class ViewController: UIViewController { override func viewDidAppear(_ animated: Bool) { super.viewDidAppear(animated) let initialNav = self.navigationController let hostingController = UIHostingController(rootView: TestView()) let newNav = UINavigationController() // This causes a freeze (iOS 18) or crash (iOS 17) newNav.setViewControllers([hostingController], animated: true) initialNav?.present(newNav, animated: true) } } After presenting the navigation controller, our app is freezing on iOS 18 or crashing on iOS 17. SwiftUI TextEditor in os26 supports attachment?
Glad to see that we have the capability to edit rich text in TextEditor with the latest os update, but I didn't get any clue to enable the attachment for this textEditor, either image/audio/video or other attachments. Any solution on this with TextEditor or I have to use the UIKit and AppKit alternatives?

ApplePay QR code popup language
Hi Team, when launching an ApplePay session from a 3rd party browser where we get the QR code popup - is it possible to affect the popup's language? We are setting the button's language via locale parameter, but when the QR code pop's up it does not respect this setting (seems like it respects browser language). Button in Arabic Corresponding popup Browser language Arabic Coresponding popup I was unable to find anything in the documentation - could you please either point me to the relevant documentation or confirm/deny that it is possible to request a language for the popup via tjr javascript API? Best way to combine new tab bar with floating action button?
I have a floating action button in my app above a toolbar. The action button adds items to my app, so is pretty important and should be easy to reach. Now with the new liquid glass design, I wonder what the best way is to combine those two. Should I use .tabViewBottomAccessory() for that? Though, that will merge down on scroll. 🤔 Or can I replace the search button in the bottom right with my own custom button action?

iOS app crash with UIKitcore - UIAlertController
I have recently submitted a new app version to the Appstore with Xcode 15.0. Unfortunately, I have started to see the below crash in the Xcode organiser &gt; Crashes section occurring for more number of times. UIKitCore: +[UIAlertController _alertControllerContainedInViewController:] + 160 The exception trace is not leading to main() function but not pointing to any of the code line. I had used UIAlertController in the past versions to show the alerts but there is no code written in the current version code related to UIAlertController. Only from the latest version, this kind of crash started to surface. In the latest release, We have added a third party SDK and while implementing the SDK, we had added the Location and Bluetooth Permissions in Info.plist file. But as we don't want to use/track the Location and Bluetooth details from the app, the SDK team has disabled the Location and Bluetooth settings to not reflect in the tracked data. Is this behaviour creating any conflict with the UIAlertController and logging the crash? Because by default the OS tries to show the alert when the permissions exist in the plist file, but the alert will not come as the service is disabled on the SDK server settings. Is this creating any conflict and logging the crash. Please extend your help.

LaunchScreen is black when i use image set
Anybody can help me with the problems of splashboard? My request is to create a launchScreen.storyboard that can follows system's theme. So in the storyboard i use the image set resource which is created in Assets.xcassets. But i encountered the following problems: when i use image set resource,the splashboard is black, seems like springboard fail to generate the ktx file. But when i move the same image file to the root of Resource directory, it works. Why???? Some image works when it is put in Image set, some file can't. But all file don't work when the image set contains both light image and dark image. Why??? Suddenly it works for when i change compression attribute to lossess,so i guess the problems hanppened when my image is compressed. And two days later, the splash board is dark again when i debug. So what is the cache strategy for the splash board and the image resource used. How can i clear the cache, delete the app is not enough? Should i restart my phone? That's all, anybody can help me?

How do I size a UITextView with scroll disabled?
tl;dr: UITextView does not auto layout when isScrollEnabled = false I have a screen with multiple UITextViews on it, contained within a ScrollView. For each textview, I calculate the height needed to display the entire content in SwiftUI and set it using the .frame(width:height:) modifier. The UITextView will respect the size passed in and layout within the container, but since UITextView is embedded within a UIScrollView, when a user attempts to scroll on the page, often they will scroll within a UITextView block rather than the page. They currently need to scroll along the margins outside of the textview to get the proper behavior. Since I am already calculating the height to display the text, I don't want the UITextView to scroll. However, when I set isScrollEnabled = false, the text view displays in a single long line that gets truncated. I have tried Setting various frame/size attributes but that seems to have zero affect on the layout. Embedding the textView within a UIView, and then sizing the container, but then the textView does not display at all. Setting a fixed size textContainer in the layoutManager but did not work. NSLayoutManager returning inconsistent values for a glyph's text container and its line fragment rect
TLDR: NSLayoutManager's textContainer(forGlyphAt:effectiveRange:) and lineFragmentRect(forGlyphRange:effectiveRange:) are returning inconsistent results. Context: I'm developing a word processing app that paginates from an NSTextStorage using NSLayoutManager. My app uses a text attribute (.columnType) to paginate sub-ranges of the text at a time, ensuring that each columnRange gets a container (or series of containers across page breaks) to fit. This is to support both multi-column and standard full-page-width content. After any user edit, I update pagination data in my Paginator model class. I calcuate frames/sizes for the views/containers, along with what superview they belong to (page). The UI updates accordingly. In order to determine whether the columnRange has overflowed from a container due to a page break OR whether the range of text hasn't overflowed its container and is actually using less space than available and should be sized down, I call both: layoutManager.textContainer(forGlyphAt: lastGlyphOfColumn, effectiveRange: &actualGlyphRangeInContainer)` // and `layoutManager.lineFragmentRect(forGlyphAt: lastGlyphOfColumn, effectiveRange: nil) Apple Documentation notes that both these calls force glyph generation and layout. As I'm in early development, I have not set non-contiguous layout. So these should be causing full layout, assuring accurate return values. Or so I'd hoped. This does work fine in many cases. I edit. Pagination works. But then I'll encounter UI-breaking inconsistent returns from these two calls. By inconsistent, I mean that the second call returns a line fragment rect that is in the container coordinates of A DIFFERENT container than the container returned by the first call. To be specific, the line fragment rect seems to be in the coordinates of the container that comes next in layoutManager.textContainers. A glyph couldn't fit in a container when it was 628 high, but if I size it up to 648, it only needs 14? There's something very weird going on here. Working with NSLayoutManager is a bit of a nightmare given the unclear documentation. Any help or insight here would be massively, massively appreciated.

Can the SwiftUI document architecture Take a file as read-only; never to be written out Take files too large for memory (multi-MB, or even GB) I wouldn't want the system to read a gigabyte size file into memory by default. If the system can use a memory-mapped Data as the representation, that'll be something I can make do. It would be even better if I could tell the system that I'll handle all the reading, all I need from it is a reference to the file's location on disk.

Tab bar inline icon text .compact mode in size classes in iPad in iOS 18..4.1
I am trying to do inline to icon and text in tab bar but it is not allowing me to do it in compact, but it showing me in regular mode , but in regular mode tab bar going at top in portrait mode , But my requirement is tab bar required in bottom with icon and text in inline it showed by horizontally but it showing to me stacked vertically, will you guide me on this so that I can push the build to live users.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE Select a text in Safari Tap on Translate in the contextual menu Swipe up on the text ->the extension expands into full mode Swipe down->only scrolls work, I cannot swipe the extension from full mode to compact mode. Expected behavior: when i swipe down on the expanded extension, the extension should get into compact mode, not continuously scroll down.

Crash/Glitch when using setViewControllers(_:animated:) with UIHostingController and .refreshable in SwiftUI
Introduction Hello, As part of our ongoing migration to SwiftUI, we are currently managing navigation using UIKit. Our SwiftUI views are embedded in UIHostingController instances and pushed or presented via UINavigationController. We’ve encountered an issue that causes either a UI glitch on iOS 18 or a crash on iOS 17 when using the .refreshable modifier in a SwiftUI view that is added to a UINavigationController via setViewControllers(_:animated:). To reproduce the issue, we’re using the following simple SwiftUI view: struct TestView: View { var body: some View { List { ForEach(0...100, id: \.self) { Text("Number: \($0)") } } .refreshable { // No action needed — the presence of this modifier alone triggers the issue } } } Problematic Scenario The following code causes the issue: class ViewController: UIViewController { override func viewDidAppear(_ animated: Bool) { super.viewDidAppear(animated) let initialNav = self.navigationController let hostingController = UIHostingController(rootView: TestView()) let newNav = UINavigationController() // This causes a freeze (iOS 18) or crash (iOS 17) newNav.setViewControllers([hostingController], animated: true) initialNav?.present(newNav, animated: true) } } After presenting the navigation controller, our app is freezing on iOS 18 or crashing on iOS 17. SwiftUI TextEditor in os26 supports attachment?
Glad to see that we have the capability to edit rich text in TextEditor with the latest os update, but I didn't get any clue to enable the attachment for this textEditor, either image/audio/video or other attachments. Any solution on this with TextEditor or I have to use the UIKit and AppKit alternatives?

ApplePay QR code popup language
Hi Team, when launching an ApplePay session from a 3rd party browser where we get the QR code popup - is it possible to affect the popup's language? We are setting the button's language via locale parameter, but when the QR code pop's up it does not respect this setting (seems like it respects browser language). Button in Arabic Corresponding popup Browser language Arabic Coresponding popup I was unable to find anything in the documentation - could you please either point me to the relevant documentation or confirm/deny that it is possible to request a language for the popup via tjr javascript API? Best way to combine new tab bar with floating action button?
I have a floating action button in my app above a toolbar. The action button adds items to my app, so is pretty important and should be easy to reach. Now with the new liquid glass design, I wonder what the best way is to combine those two. Should I use .tabViewBottomAccessory() for that? Though, that will merge down on scroll. 🤔 Or can I replace the search button in the bottom right with my own custom button action?

iOS app crash with UIKitcore - UIAlertController
I have recently submitted a new app version to the Appstore with Xcode 15.0. Unfortunately, I have started to see the below crash in the Xcode organiser &gt; Crashes section occurring for more number of times. UIKitCore: +[UIAlertController _alertControllerContainedInViewController:] + 160 The exception trace is not leading to main() function but not pointing to any of the code line. I had used UIAlertController in the past versions to show the alerts but there is no code written in the current version code related to UIAlertController. Only from the latest version, this kind of crash started to surface. In the latest release, We have added a third party SDK and while implementing the SDK, we had added the Location and Bluetooth Permissions in Info.plist file. But as we don't want to use/track the Location and Bluetooth details from the app, the SDK team has disabled the Location and Bluetooth settings to not reflect in the tracked data. Is this behaviour creating any conflict with the UIAlertController and logging the crash? Because by default the OS tries to show the alert when the permissions exist in the plist file, but the alert will not come as the service is disabled on the SDK server settings. Is this creating any conflict and logging the crash. Please extend your help.

LaunchScreen is black when i use image set
Anybody can help me with the problems of splashboard? My request is to create a launchScreen.storyboard that can follows system's theme. So in the storyboard i use the image set resource which is created in Assets.xcassets. But i encountered the following problems: when i use image set resource,the splashboard is black, seems like springboard fail to generate the ktx file. But when i move the same image file to the root of Resource directory, it works. Why???? Some image works when it is put in Image set, some file can't. But all file don't work when the image set contains both light image and dark image. Why??? Suddenly it works for when i change compression attribute to lossess,so i guess the problems hanppened when my image is compressed. And two days later, the splash board is dark again when i debug. So what is the cache strategy for the splash board and the image resource used. How can i clear the cache, delete the app is not enough? Should i restart my phone? That's all, anybody can help me?
