Xcode 16 Doesn't Display "Swift Compiler" Build Settings Sections
I am editing my iOS project in Xcode 16 and want to use the "Swift Compiler - Upcoming Features" section of the build settings to selectively enable the new Swift 6 language features. I have read the instructions for doing this and have dowloaded an Apple sample project and can see that section under the project and target-level Build Settings in the sample project However, when I open my Xcode project in XCode 16 that section does not appear. Is there any way for me to influence how Xcode 16 displays the build settings? In fact, no "Swift Compiler" sections appear at all under my project Build Settings (All | Combined). There is a "User-Defined" section that has the Swift Version, Compilation Mode and Optimization level. The project itself is several years old and was on a very old project version. I have upgraded my project document format to "Xcode 16" but it made no difference. I have compared my project and the sample project in a text editor and both seem to have similar structure. I tried removing unused and outdated settings from my project but that also had no effect. Is there an alternative to deleting my project file and adding the source files to it? I have a large project with multiple targets so that would be something I'd rather not do.

Xcode26: download stuck on 'fetching'
I just downloaded Xcode26, and am trying to download the new simulator to be able to run and test my app. But the downloads folder just shows that it's stuck on "Fetching download information ..." even 15 minutes after it started. I tried restarting Xcode but didn't help. Internet connection is good. Any tips to get it working?

Xcode 26.1 Simulator download fails with DVTDownloadableErrorDomain code 41 and code 49 on macOS 26.1
I'm trying to download an iOS Simulator runtime in Xcode 26.2 or 26.1 on macOS 26.1, but the download keeps failing with the following error: Download failed. Domain: DVTDownloadableErrorDomain Code: 41 Failed fetching catalog for assetType (com.apple.MobileAsset.iOSSimulatorRuntime), serverParameters ({ RequestedBuild = 23C54;}) Domain: DVTDownloadsUtilitiesErrorDomain. Code: -1. Download failed due to a bad URL. (Catalog download for com.apple.MobileAsset.iOSSimulatorRuntime) Domain: com.apple.MobileAssetError.Download Code: 49 User Info: {checkConfiguration = 1;} macOS & Xcode Info: macOS Version: 26.1 (Build 25B78) Xcode Version: 26.2 (24553) (Build 17C52) What I've tried so far: Formatted my Mac and reinstalled Xcode multiple times. Completely deleted Xcode and its related files several times (/Applications/Xcode.app, caches, preferences). Tried different internet connections from multiple locations. Checked Apple servers and verified network. Attempted downloading other simulator runtimes (fail). but download fails immediately with DVTDownloadableErrorDomain Code 41 and bad URL error. Question: How can I fix the simulator download issue in Xcode 26.2 on macOS 26.1? Is there a known workaround for the bad URL / catalog download error?

Xcode 26 Beta Rebooting Problems
Hi, I've been running Xcode 26 beta ever since Beta 1 and haven't had rebooting problems. Now with Xcode beta (Version 26.0 beta 4 (17A5285i)) I'll be working on a project when the system (Mac mini 2025) suddenly reboots itself. This has been going on since beta 3. I am also running MacOS 26.0 Beta (25A5316i). I have filed a bug report. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks, Dan Uff

XCode 12 - Can't login to Github without Access Token???
Hey, so I wanted to pull from the Github project repository and XCode asked me login again. Forgot my password so I tried a wrong one and now it keeps asking for my Username and Access token, when I actually just want to login with my password. Doesn't let me choose between the too, not even when adding the account through preferences. Anyone know how to just login with password and the reason for this -pardon me- absolutely idiotic choice of not letting the user choose?

In Simulator on status bar red banner with rdar:45025538
Out of nowhere I got some red banner on top of my iPhone 13 mini / iOS 17.5. I cannot pin point the root cause of this. What I can say is that it only happens to Simulators of a certain type, e.g. iPhone 12 and 13 mini, but not iPhone 14 for example. I have installed Xcode 26.1.0 and 26.1.1, out of which 26.1.0 is selected: $ xcode-select -p /Applications/Xcode-26.1.0.app/Contents/Developer And following runtimes: $ xcrun simctl runtime list == Disk Images == -- iOS -- iOS 17.5 (21F79) - CF933623-A258-44F8-B248-C0F25C0C343B (Ready) iOS 26.1 (23B80) - D11C3CDC-EE3D-44CC-8B92-9B7D00B54B0B (Ready) Total Disk Images: 2 (14.6G) Installing the newer 26.1 23B86 runtime doesn't help either.

Why is Xcode so slow and bad?
I just want to rant why is Xcode such a bad ide and I wish Apple can do a better job on Xcode. Here's why: The preview is so slow. Most of the times it's just faster for me to test on a real device. It is so slow, and many times I need to force quite after it's being unresponsive for sometimes. When I'm working on larger projects, the loading time becomes extremely slow especially when there's other clients that might be reading the same files like a Git client or simply iCloud. The breakpoint is so slow. I don't know why, is it an iOS thing? But when I'm on ASP.Net the breakpoints are super fast. For Xcode it takes a long time to pause and show data. It's so big I don't know why it is so hard for Apple to make their ide better. The community has been unsatisfied with Xcode for a long time. There's many tricks on the internet that you can find to help you resolve some issues with your project that's actually related to Xcode. Instead of using these tricks, Apple should just fix these issues. Learn from Intellij!

Xcode 26.1 ChatGPT very slow
ChatGPT in Xcode 26.1 is super slow for me, anyone else? The response returns quickly but the preview window takes a few seconds per line. What it used to do in a few seconds on 26.0 now takes tens of minutes. Anyone else running into this and have suggestions? I'm using the minimal setting on a fast internet connection. M2 Pro MBP, macOS 26.1.

Xcode 26 beta 5 - actool version decode error killing CI builds
Getting a weird build failure with Xcode 26 beta 5 that I haven't seen before. Under Xcode 26 beta 3, how to support new glass icons for iOS 26 and old icons for iOS 18?
I know there are several existing threads on this topic but things keep changing. The release notes for Xcode 26 beta 3 have the following statements for a couple of resolved issues: Asset Catalog Fixed: Unable to set Icon Composer icon as alternate iOS icon (153305178) (FB18025356) Icon Composer Fixed: Icon Composer icons back deploy to older versions of iOS, macOS, and watchOS with inconsistent rendering. (152258860) I had a working solution under beta 1 and beta 2 for both of these. But under beta 3, I am now seeing the new glass icons for my app when running on a simulated iOS 18 device. This is happening for both the main app icon and any alternates. This contradicts the statement that beta 3 fixes this issue. There is no documentation (that I can find) describing how you are supposed to support old icons for iOS 18 and new glass icons for iOS 26. There is no documentation for how to support alternate glass icons for iOS 26. What I'm doing at the moment (that worked before beta 3) was to have the normal iOS 18 app icons in the Asset catalog and to have the new glass icons added to the project. The filenames for the glass .icon files have the same name as the app icons in the Assets catalog. This worked under beta 1 and beta 2. And despite the Xcode 26 beta 3 release notes stating that Icon Composer icons no longer back deploy to iOS 18, I'm seeing the opposite. Beta 3 now does the opposite of that statement. Does anyone have a working solution that supports old iOS 18 app icons and new iOS 26 glass icons using Xcode 26 beta 3? Note, all of my testing is with simulated iOS devices and I'm running Xcode 26 beta 3 under macOS 15.5. Maybe that's an issue?

FileProvider fails to trigger re-enumeration
I'm working on a FileProvider which allows access to encrypted files in Dropbox; I can successfully read and present the decrypted files, so I know it's basically working. But I'm having problems getting FileProvider to re-enumerate a folder when its encryption status changes. When the FileProvider receives an update notification saying a folder is now encrypted, I use signalEnumerator to re-enumerate the folder: FileProviderExtension.manager?.signalEnumerator(for: existingItem.itemIdentifier, completionHandler: { (ourError : Error?) -> Void in       if let ourError = ourError {           log("notifyCallback: mount / unmount failed re-enumeration: \(ourError)")       } else {           log("notifyCallback: mount / unmount signalled re-enumeration; pending")       } }) The log reports that the re-enumeration is pending... but as far as I can tell, neither enumerateItems nor enumerateChanges is called on the folder's item unless a Finder window is actually open for that folder. This means that, when an app other than Finder tries to access the files through the filesystem, it doesn't see the updated set of filenames. (For further reference: I've added code to both enumerateItems and enumerateChanges, so that if the call has been triggered by a recent folder-encryption notification, it retrieves a complete set of items from the Dropbox folder. If a retrieved file has an encrypted filename, it reports it as a modified item and returns its filename in-clear; if the filename isn't encrypted, it doesn't return the item (for enumerateItems) or returns it as a deleted item (for enumerateChanges). This approach seems to work successfully for listing folders with a constant state; it's only if the user encrypts / decrypts a folder without currently having a Finder window open inside that folder that I'm not seeing a refresh.) Any advice on how I can force a re-enumeration without a Finder window currently being displayed?

Here’s what I have tried so far to resolve this issue: 1. Ensured that all my certificates and provisioning profiles are current and valid. 2. Removed all related certificates from my Keychain and reinstalled new ones. 3. Cleaned and rebuilt the project multiple times. 4. Unpaired the device and paired it again. 5. Reinstalled the latest version of Xcode. 6. Performed a complete restore of my Mac. Despite these troubleshooting steps, I am still facing the same issue. As soon as I run the app in debug the breakpoints are disabled
After updating my system to macOS Tahoe 26.1 and Xcode 26.1, all breakpoints in my project fail to work. When I run the application in Debug mode, any enabled breakpoint (blue) immediately becomes disabled (grayed out) the moment the app launches. The application runs, but the debugger never stops. This issue occurs in any location, including in the application's init() method, which should always be hit. This behavior suggests that the LLDB debugger is failing to attach to the process at launch or is being instructed not to enable breakpoints. System Configuration: Mac Model: MacBook Pro 14" (2021), Apple M1 Pro macOS Version: Tahoe 26.1 Xcode Version: 26.1 Project Type: SwiftUI App for macOS Troubleshooting Steps Performed (All Unsuccessful): We have performed an extensive series of troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue, none of which have worked. These steps include: Basic Project Cleaning: Cleaned the build folder (Product > Clean Build Folder). Deleted the entire DerivedData directory. Deleted the project's xcuserdata folder. Xcode & System Procedures: Restarted Xcode multiple times. Rebooted the Mac multiple times. Reinstalled Xcode Command Line Tools using xcode-select --install. Reset the Xcode path using sudo xcode-select --reset and sudo xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer. Forced an update of the system's shared cache with xcrun simctl runtime dyld_shared_cache update --all. Project Build Settings Verification (for Debug configuration): Build Configuration: Verified that the "Run" scheme is set to Debug. Optimization Level: Confirmed it is set to No Optimization [-O0]. Debug Information Format: Confirmed it is set to DWARF with dSYM File. Strip Swift Symbols: Confirmed it is set to No. (This was a new setting noticed after the Xcode update). Enable Hardened Runtime: Attempted setting this to both Yes and No. The issue persists in both cases. Validate Workspace: Confirmed it is set to Yes. Code Signing: Verified that "Automatically manage signing" is enabled with a valid team. Manually deleted and re-created the "Apple Development" certificates via Xcode's Accounts settings. Direct LLDB Testing: Created a ~/.lldbinit file. Using breakpoint list, confirmed that LLDB starts with "No breakpoints currently set," indicating that Xcode is likely not passing the breakpoints to the debugger. Using settings set target.process.stop-on-entry true, confirmed that the app still does not stop on entry, suggesting the debugger is failing to attach to the process at all. Conclusion: Given that all standard and advanced troubleshooting steps have failed, and the issue started immediately after updating both macOS and Xcode to a non-public release (Tahoe 26.1 / Xcode 26.1), this appears to be a regression or a bug in the new development environment. The failure of stop-on-entry strongly suggests a fundamental issue with the debugger attachment process on this specific OS and Xcode combination.

Xcode26 beta.2 build error
I am writing to report multiple issues encountered after updating to Xcode 26 Beta, which have significantly impacted my project's compilation and functionality. My project can run normally in Xcode16.3 version, Below are the specific problems, along with the steps I took to address them and the subsequent errors that arose: Symbol Not Found Error for _NSUserActivityTypeBrowsingWeb After updating to Xcode 26 Beta, my project failed to build with the error: "Symbol not found: _NSUserActivityTypeBrowsingWeb." To resolve this, I removed the MobileCoreServices framework from the Build Settings, as it appeared to be related. However, this led to a new error, indicating that this change introduced further complications. Clang++ Error: No Such File or Directory 'OpenGLES' Following the resolution of the first issue, I encountered a new error: "iOS clang++: error: no such file or directory: 'OpenGLES'." To address this, I added the OpenGLES.framework to the Build Phases. While this resolved the clang++ error, it triggered additional errors, suggesting that the underlying issue persists or new dependencies are conflicting. Recurring XIB File Compilation Errors My project uses XIB files, and every time I attempt to compile and run, Xcode reports errors related to different XIB files. Notably, when I open the reported XIB file, no errors are displayed within the Interface Builder. Xcode 16 Doesn't Display "Swift Compiler" Build Settings Sections
I am editing my iOS project in Xcode 16 and want to use the "Swift Compiler - Upcoming Features" section of the build settings to selectively enable the new Swift 6 language features. I have read the instructions for doing this and have dowloaded an Apple sample project and can see that section under the project and target-level Build Settings in the sample project However, when I open my Xcode project in XCode 16 that section does not appear. Is there any way for me to influence how Xcode 16 displays the build settings? In fact, no "Swift Compiler" sections appear at all under my project Build Settings (All | Combined). There is a "User-Defined" section that has the Swift Version, Compilation Mode and Optimization level. The project itself is several years old and was on a very old project version. I have upgraded my project document format to "Xcode 16" but it made no difference. I have compared my project and the sample project in a text editor and both seem to have similar structure. I tried removing unused and outdated settings from my project but that also had no effect. Is there an alternative to deleting my project file and adding the source files to it? I have a large project with multiple targets so that would be something I'd rather not do.

Xcode26: download stuck on 'fetching'
I just downloaded Xcode26, and am trying to download the new simulator to be able to run and test my app. But the downloads folder just shows that it's stuck on "Fetching download information ..." even 15 minutes after it started. I tried restarting Xcode but didn't help. Internet connection is good. Any tips to get it working?

XCode crashing in VIM Mode while deleting the complete line with double tap of "d"
I have been using Xcode Version 26.1.1 on macOS Tahoe Version 26.1. In VIM mode, whenever I quickly tap d twice, to delete the complete line, most of the time Xcode crashes. Is anyone else facing this issue? Should I move to any older version of Xcode or any other solve for this?

Xcode 26 Beta Rebooting Problems
Hi, I've been running Xcode 26 beta ever since Beta 1 and haven't had rebooting problems. Now with Xcode beta (Version 26.0 beta 4 (17A5285i)) I'll be working on a project when the system (Mac mini 2025) suddenly reboots itself. This has been going on since beta 3. XCode 12 - Can't login to Github without Access Token???
Hey, so I wanted to pull from the Github project repository and XCode asked me login again. Forgot my password so I tried a wrong one and now it keeps asking for my Username and Access token, when I actually just want to login with my password. Doesn't let me choose between the too, not even when adding the account through preferences. Anyone know how to just login with password and the reason for this -pardon me- absolutely idiotic choice of not letting the user choose?

In Simulator on status bar red banner with rdar:45025538
Out of nowhere I got some red banner on top of my iPhone 13 mini / iOS 17.5. I cannot pin point the root cause of this. What I can say is that it only happens to Simulators of a certain type, e.g. iPhone 12 and 13 mini, but not iPhone 14 for example. I have installed Xcode 26.1.0 and 26.1.1, out of which 26.1.0 is selected: $ xcode-select -p /Applications/Xcode-26.1.0.app/Contents/Developer And following runtimes: $ xcrun simctl runtime list == Disk Images == -- iOS -- iOS 17.5 (21F79) - CF933623-A258-44F8-B248-C0F25C0C343B (Ready) iOS 26.1 (23B80) - D11C3CDC-EE3D-44CC-8B92-9B7D00B54B0B (Ready) Total Disk Images: 2 (14.6G) Installing the newer 26.1 23B86 runtime doesn't help either.

Why is Xcode so slow and bad?
I just want to rant why is Xcode such a bad ide and I wish Apple can do a better job on Xcode. Here's why: The preview is so slow. Most of the times it's just faster for me to test on a real device. It is so slow, and many times I need to force quite after it's being unresponsive for sometimes. When I'm working on larger projects, the loading time becomes extremely slow especially when there's other clients that might be reading the same files like a Git client or simply iCloud. The breakpoint is so slow. I don't know why, is it an iOS thing? But when I'm on ASP.Net the breakpoints are super fast. For Xcode it takes a long time to pause and show data. It's so big I don't know why it is so hard for Apple to make their ide better. The community has been unsatisfied with Xcode for a long time. There's many tricks on the internet that you can find to help you resolve some issues with your project that's actually related to Xcode. Instead of using these tricks, Apple should just fix these issues. Learn from Intellij!

ChatGPT in Xcode 26.1 is super slow for me, anyone else? The response returns quickly but the preview window takes a few seconds per line. What it used to do in a few seconds on 26.0 now takes tens of minutes. Anyone else running into this and have suggestions? I'm using the minimal setting on a fast internet connection. Under Xcode 26 beta 3, how to support new glass icons for iOS 26 and old icons for iOS 18?
I know there are several existing threads on this topic but things keep changing. The release notes for Xcode 26 beta 3 have the following statements for a couple of resolved issues: Asset Catalog Fixed: Unable to set Icon Composer icon as alternate iOS icon (153305178) (FB18025356) Icon Composer Fixed: Icon Composer icons back deploy to older versions of iOS, macOS, and watchOS with inconsistent rendering. (152258860) I had a working solution under beta 1 and beta 2 for both of these. But under beta 3, I am now seeing the new glass icons for my app when running on a simulated iOS 18 device. This is happening for both the main app icon and any alternates. This contradicts the statement that beta 3 fixes this issue. There is no documentation (that I can find) describing how you are supposed to support old icons for iOS 18 and new glass icons for iOS 26. There is no documentation for how to support alternate glass icons for iOS 26. What I'm doing at the moment (that worked before beta 3) was to have the normal iOS 18 app icons in the Asset catalog and to have the new glass icons added to the project. The filenames for the glass .icon files have the same name as the app icons in the Assets catalog. This worked under beta 1 and beta 2. And despite the Xcode 26 beta 3 release notes stating that Icon Composer icons no longer back deploy to iOS 18, I'm seeing the opposite. Beta 3 now does the opposite of that statement. Does anyone have a working solution that supports old iOS 18 app icons and new iOS 26 glass icons using Xcode 26 beta 3? Note, all of my testing is with simulated iOS devices and I'm running Xcode 26 beta 3 under macOS 15.5. Maybe that's an issue?

FileProvider fails to trigger re-enumeration
I'm working on a FileProvider which allows access to encrypted files in Dropbox; I can successfully read and present the decrypted files, so I know it's basically working. But I'm having problems getting FileProvider to re-enumerate a folder when its encryption status changes. When the FileProvider receives an update notification saying a folder is now encrypted, I use signalEnumerator to re-enumerate the folder: FileProviderExtension.manager?.signalEnumerator(for: existingItem.itemIdentifier, completionHandler: { (ourError : Error?) -> Void in       if let ourError = ourError {           log("notifyCallback: mount / unmount failed re-enumeration: \(ourError)")       } else {           log("notifyCallback: mount / unmount signalled re-enumeration; pending")       } }) The log reports that the re-enumeration is pending... but as far as I can tell, neither enumerateItems nor enumerateChanges is called on the folder's item unless a Finder window is actually open for that folder. This means that, when an app other than Finder tries to access the files through the filesystem, it doesn't see the updated set of filenames. (For further reference: I've added code to both enumerateItems and enumerateChanges, so that if the call has been triggered by a recent folder-encryption notification, it retrieves a complete set of items from the Dropbox folder. If a retrieved file has an encrypted filename, it reports it as a modified item and returns its filename in-clear; if the filename isn't encrypted, it doesn't return the item (for enumerateItems) or returns it as a deleted item (for enumerateChanges). This approach seems to work successfully for listing folders with a constant state; it's only if the user encrypts / decrypts a folder without currently having a Finder window open inside that folder that I'm not seeing a refresh.) Any advice on how I can force a re-enumeration without a Finder window currently being displayed?

As soon as I run the app in debug the breakpoints are disabled
After updating my system to macOS Tahoe 26.1 and Xcode 26.1, all breakpoints in my project fail to work. When I run the application in Debug mode, any enabled breakpoint (blue) immediately becomes disabled (grayed out) the moment the app launches. The application runs, but the debugger never stops. This behavior suggests that the LLDB debugger is failing to attach to the process at launch or is being instructed not to enable breakpoints. System Configuration: Mac Model: MacBook Pro 14" (2021), Apple M1 Pro macOS Version: Tahoe 26.1 Xcode Version: 26.1 Project Type: SwiftUI App for macOS Troubleshooting Steps Performed (All Unsuccessful): We have performed an extensive series of troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue, none of which have worked. I am writing to report multiple issues encountered after updating to Xcode 26 Beta, which have significantly impacted my project's compilation and functionality. My project can run normally in Xcode16.3 version, Below are the specific problems, along with the steps I took to address them and the subsequent errors that arose: Symbol Not Found Error for _NSUserActivityTypeBrowsingWeb After updating to Xcode 26 Beta, my project failed to build with the error: "Symbol not found: _NSUserActivityTypeBrowsingWeb." To resolve this, I removed the MobileCoreServices framework from the Build Settings, as it appeared to be related. However, this led to a new error, indicating that this change introduced further complications. Clang++ Error: No Such File or Directory 'OpenGLES' Following the resolution of the first issue, I encountered a new error: "iOS clang++: error: no such file or directory: 'OpenGLES'." To address this, I added the OpenGLES.framework to the Build Phases. While this resolved the clang++ error, it triggered additional errors, suggesting that the underlying issue persists or new dependencies are conflicting. Recurring XIB File Compilation Errors My project uses XIB files, and every time I attempt to compile and run, Xcode reports errors related to different XIB files. Notably, when I open the reported XIB file, no errors are displayed within the Interface Builder. After saving or inspecting the file, the compilation error temporarily disappears, only for another XIB file to trigger the same issue in the next build. This creates a repetitive cycle. I have confirmed this is not a caching issue, as I clean the build cache (Product &gt; Clean Build Folder) before each run. If I skip cleaning the cache, the OpenGLES-related error (Issue 2) reappears, indicating potential interactions between these problems.
