Navbar buttons disappear in NavigationSplitView's sidebar when changing apps
We recently migrated our app to use NavigationSplitView on iPad with a sidebar and detail setup, and we got reports that the navigation buttons on the sidebar disappear when returning to our app after using a different app. I reproduced the issue from a new empty project with the following code (issue tested on iOS 17.4 and iOS 18.3, was not able to reproduce on iOS 16.4): import SwiftUI @main struct TestApp: App { var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { NavigationSplitView { Text("sidebar") .toolbar { ToolbarItem(placement: .topBarLeading) { Button(action: {}) { Image(systemName: "square.and.arrow.down") } } ToolbarItem(placement: .topBarTrailing) { Button(action: {}) { Image(systemName: "square.and.arrow.up") } } } } detail: { Text("detail") .toolbar { ToolbarItem(placement: .topBarLeading) { Button(action: {}) { Image(systemName: "eraser") } } ToolbarItem(placement: .topBarTrailing) { Button(action: {}) { Image(systemName: "pencil") } } } } } } } Please check the following GIF for the simple steps, notice how the navbar buttons in the detail view do not disappear: Here's the console output, it shows that the constraints break internally:

Scene for my "Application's Menu About "My Application""
I am using SwiftUI to create an app and I have figured out how to present a scene for my preferences window. However I have yet to find a way to modify the "About "My App"" scene. I am not even sure how to ask the question on other forums because I keep getting informations on application menus. I would like to find information on accessing/changing other menu entries in the menubar (in SwiftUI) an most specifically I would like to find out how to present a custom window (or at least custom information) when the user selects "About "My App"" I guess I don't need a solution but a pointer to documentation that will help me in my quest.

How to show lanes in carplay programatically
Hello all, I'm confused about how to show lanes in CarPlay. I understand CPLaneGuidance and CPLane I don't find anywhere where to tell Carplay which icon to show for each lane. I've found some information saying we put the icon in CPManeuver, but then CPManeuver is linked to only one CPLaneGuidance, and we can put only one icon in CPManeuver. At the same time, we might have multiple lanes. Any help, tips, or examples would be highly helpful.

FileDocument project executes ContentView(document:) twice
When I transitioned my document project to iOS 18.4 from iOS 17.4, the DocumentGroup's closure runs twice both on device, and simulator. This means that if this closure runs say ContentView(document:), it does this twice in iOS 18.4 (probably 18.x). This project uses FileDocument I created a new document project from the document app template, and it exhibits the same double load behavior in iOS 18.4, and single load behavior in iOS 17.4. Both tests are run in the simulator. Does this behavior reflect a semantic requirement where the app should be able to work with multiple document loads, or is this a bug in the document system. Compiling with Swift 5 or Swift 6 for iOS 18.4. The template provided FileDocument adopted document is used with no changes. ...App.swift: import SwiftUI @main struct Double_Document_Start_ProblemApp: App { var body: some Scene { DocumentGroup(newDocument: Double_Document_Start_ProblemDocument()) { file in ContentView(document: file.$document) } } } =========================== ContentView.swift: import SwiftUI struct ContentView: View { static private var startCount: Int = 0 @Binding var document: Double_Document_Start_ProblemDocument var body: some View { Text(document.text) .onAppear { Self.startCount += 1 // GDEBUG print("Text start: \(Self.startCount).") } //TextEditor(text: $document.text) } } #if false #Preview { ContentView(document: .constant(Double_Document_Start_ProblemDocument())) } #endif =========================== Copy/paste of console output: Text start: 1. Emulate AppKit NSPopUpButton in SwiftUI
How to make a control that looks and feels as close as possible to NSPopUpButton in SwiftUI, so a Mac user accepts the control as being native Mac UI? Items should have icon and text, I need separators between some items and certain items may be disabled at times, so they should not be selectable. Picker seems to lack some of those features (separators and disabled items), and Menu looks and behaves differently. Any guidance? For now I went with Menu, but find both the "chevron.down" icon at the trailing end as well as the positioning of the menu below the control weird.

Can SwiftUI TextFields in a List on macOS be marked as always editable?
In SwiftUI's List, on macOS, if I embed a TextField then the text field is presented as non-editable. If the user clicks on the text and waits a short period of time, the text field will become editable. I'm aware this is generally the correct behaviour for macOS. However, is there a way in SwiftUI to supress this behaviour such that the TextField is always presented as being editable? I want a scrollable, List of editable text fields, much like how a Form is presented. The reason I'm not using a Form is because I want List's support for reordering by drag-and-drop (.onMove). Use Case A view that allows a user to compose a questionnaire. They are able to add and remove questions (rows) and each question is editable. They require drag-and-drop support so that they can reorder the questions.

SwiftUI TextEditor undo button
I'm using SwiftUI's TextEditor. I'd like to include an undo button in my UI that operates on the TextEditor. I don't see a way to hook this up. You can get the UndoManager from the environment, but this is not the undo manager the TextEditor is using. I know that UITextView uses an undocumented UndoManager (_UITextUndoManager) and I've accessed that before when using a UIViewRepresentable wrapper around UITextView. I'd like to achieve the same with TextEditor.

Food Truck Sample animation issue from Table Component
Hi! I'm seeing some weird animation issues building the Food Truck sample application.^1 I'm running from macOS 15.4 and Xcode 16.3. I'm building the Food Truck application for macOS. I'm not focusing on iOS for now. The FoodTruckModel adds new Order values with an animation: // FoodTruckModel.swift withAnimation(.spring(response: 0.4, dampingFraction: 1)) { self.orders.append(orderGenerator.generateOrder(number: orders.count + 1, date: .now, generator: &generator)) } This then animates the OrdersTable when new Order values are added. Here is a small change to OrdersTable: // OrdersTable.swift - @State private var sortOrder = [KeyPathComparator(\Order.status, order: .reverse)] + @State private var sortOrder = [KeyPathComparator(\Order.creationDate, order: .reverse)] Running the app now inserts new Order values at the top. The problem is I seem to be seeing some weird animation issues here. It seems that as soon as the new Order comes in there is some kind of weird glitch where it appears as if part the animation is coming from the side instead of down from the top: What's then more weird is that if I seem to affect the state of the Table in any way then the next Order comes in with perfect animation. Scrolling the Table fixes the animation. Changing the creationData sort order from reverse to forward and back to reverse fixes the animation. Any ideas? Is there something about how the Food Truck product is built that would cause this to happen? Is this an underlying issue in the SwiftUI infra?

UI not updating during render
I've coded a small raytracer that renders a scene (based on Peter Shirley's tutorial, I just coded it in Swift). The raytracer itself works fine, outputs a PPM file which is correct. However, I was hoping to enclose this in a UI that will update the picture as each pixel value gets updated during the render. So to that end I made a MacOS app, with a basic model-view architecture. Here is my model: // // RGBViewModel.swift // rtweekend_gui // // import SwiftUI // RGB structure to hold color values struct RGB { var r: UInt8 var g: UInt8 var b: UInt8 } // ViewModel to handle the RGB array and updates class RGBViewModel: ObservableObject { // Define the dimensions of your 2D array let width = 1200 let height = 675 // Published property to trigger UI updates @Published var rgbArray: [[RGB]] init() { // Initialize with black pixels rgbArray = Array(repeating: Array(repeating: RGB(r: 0, g: 0, b: 0), count: width), count: height) } func render_scene() { for j in 0..<height { for i in 0..<width { // Generate a random color let r = UInt8.random(in: 0...255) let g = UInt8.random(in: 0...255) let b = UInt8.random(in: 0...255) // Update on the main thread since this affects the UI DispatchQueue.main.async { // Update the array self.rgbArray[j][i] = RGB(r: r, g: g, b: b) } } } } and here is my view: // // RGBArrayView.swift // rtweekend_gui // // import SwiftUI struct RGBArrayView: View { // The 2D array of RGB values @StateObject private var viewModel = RGBViewModel() // Control the size of each pixel private let pixelSize: CGFloat = 1 var body: some View { VStack { // Display the RGB array Canvas { context, size in for y in 0..<viewModel.rgbArray.count { for x in 0..<viewModel.rgbArray[y].count { let rgb = viewModel.rgbArray[y][x] let rect = CGRect( x: CGFloat(x) * pixelSize, y: CGFloat(y) * pixelSize, width: pixelSize, height: pixelSize ) context.fill( Path(rect), with: .color(Color( red: Double(rgb.r) / 255.0, green: Double(rgb.g) / 255.0, blue: Double(rgb.b) / 255.0 )) ) } } } .border(Color.gray) // Button to start filling the array Button("Render") { viewModel.render_scene() } .padding() } .padding() .frame(width: CGFloat(viewModel.width) * pixelSize + 40, height: CGFloat(viewModel.height) * pixelSize + 80) } } // Preview for SwiftUI struct RGBArrayView_Previews: PreviewProvider { static var previews: some View { RGBArrayView() } } The render does work and the image displays, however, I thought I set it up to show the image updating pixel by pixel and that doesn't happen, the image shows up all at once. What am I doing wrong?

Open new document in SwiftUI on iOS
I have a SwiftUI document based app. The iOS version has a Scene Delegate: class SceneDelegate: NSObject, UIWindowSceneDelegate { func scene(_ scene: UIScene, openURLContexts URLContexts: Set<UIOpenURLContext>) { for context in URLContexts { let url = context.url // url.scheme = my custom scheme let text = ... extracted from url ... // I want to open a new untitled document with text // but 'newDocument' has been explicitly marked unavailable for iOS } } }

Slideshow / Gallery / Photos app View
How can I create a view that is like the one in the Photos app where you can select an item and it fills the window, then you can drag / swipe between items in that view? I have a working prototype, and it works for photos. But once I get to a video, the gesture no longer works.

Confused about the appclip.apple.com domain
Question: I'm aware of the AASA file hosting procedure to make app clips work and link them to your website, but IIRC you can trigger app clips via the simple appclip.apple.com URL too, right? As a result no need to host the AASA file. Like my app store connect gave me the URL https://appclip.apple.com/id?p=myname.myappsname.Clip but when I click it it says "This app clip is not currently available in your country or region". However I'm also getting Bad JSON content on the View Status under the domain. I'm so confused.

How to Use AccessorySetupKit to Automatically Trigger Hardware Pairing Screen in the Background?
Hello everyone, I’m currently developing an iOS app and would like to leverage the AccessorySetupKit framework introduced in iOS 18 to implement pairing functionality with our company's custom hardware product. The specific requirements are as follows: Our hardware supports both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections, and both are enabled. When the hardware device is in proximity to an iPhone, I want the device to be automatically recognized, and a pairing screen similar to the one in AccessorySetupKit should appear. Users should be able to perform the pairing process without needing to open our app, even if the app is not in the foreground. The system-level pairing screen should show the hardware information and allow the user to proceed with the pairing. My questions are: Does AccessorySetupKit allow the pairing screen to trigger when the app is running in the background, or must the app be in the foreground? How should I configure AccessorySetupKit to automatically recognize and display my company’s hardware device information? Are there any specific configurations or code implementations needed? Do I need to implement any specific Bluetooth/Wi-Fi advertising broadcasts to ensure the device is correctly detected by the iOS system when in proximity? Are there any additional permissions or configurations required, especially for handling background tasks? Thank you very much for your help, and I look forward to your advice and insights!

Inconsistent ornament scale
I am developing an application which make use of 2 ornaments anchored to a volumetric window, one used a toolbar and one to display different views. The problem I am facing consistently is that the ornaments seems to scale up or down after moving the volume using the OS handle or starting a GroupActivity session. This first image shows the ornaments as soon as I started the app, no dragging nor group activities: This second images shows them as soon as I join a group activity session: The map, which might seem smaller, has not been touched and has always the same scale. In this last image I had just dragged the entire volume using the OS toolbar, resulting in the ornaments scaling down: This is how the volume and the ornaments are declared: WindowGroup(id: "CityVolume") { let cityVM = CityViewModel(volumeSize: CityView.initialVolumeSize) CityView(cityVM: cityVM) .ornament(attachmentAnchor: .scene(.bottomFront)) { HStack { TourismChartsButton() LandmarksListButton() CenterMapButton() ToggleImmersiveSpaceButton() TrafficDataButton() BusLinesButton() } .padding() .offset(z: 10) .rotation3DEffect(Angle(degrees: 15), axis: (x: 1.0, y: 0.0, z: 0.0)) } .ornament(attachmentAnchor: .scene(.back)) { ZStack { if AppModel.Instance.tourismVM.isChartViewVisible { TourismChartsView() } if AppModel.Instance.busLinesVM.isDataViewEnabled { BusLineView() } } } .task(observeGroupActivity) .onAppear { appModel.cityVM = cityVM } } .windowStyle(.volumetric) .windowResizability(.contentSize) .volumeWorldAlignment(.gravityAligned) .defaultSize(CityView.initialVolumeSize, in: .meters) It happens also without starting a SharePlay session, but not as frequently as during SharePlay. Experienced the same behaviour with toolbars. Am I doing something wrong with how I created the ornaments? Am I missing something?

[SwiftUI] SecureEntry Autofill in Dark Mode
When using New Password Autofill in Dark Mode, it appears that SecureEntry sets the background color to white and applies a yellow-ish overlay, but doesn't adapt the foreground text color accordingly. This gives the illusion that the SecureEntry field is empty, as we have white text on a white background. Is there a holistic and SwiftUI-native way of fixing this?

Dynamically resizing NSPreferencePane content
Is it not possible to dynamically change or constrain an NSPreferencePane's mainView size? I have looked all over and this doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere. The most I can seemingly do is set the frame and hope the user doesn't resize the window. class scor: NSPreferencePane { override func mainViewDidLoad() { mainView = NSHostingView(rootView: ContentView()) mainView.frame = NSMakeRect(0, 0, 668, 1048) } } Here is a screenshot, just with a simple webview as a test, note the scrollbar: My storyboard is just from the default prefpane Xcode template, nothing special. I looked at the header file for NSPreferencePane and came up with nothing. All I can think of is that this is impossible due to the way they are implemented? The only thing we seemingly have access to is mainView, so I can't like constrain the size of mainView to its parent, for example. Additionally, if I make a new preference pane, and make a button or other view that I choose to resize to fill horizontally and vertically, it does that, but not really? Here is what that looks like: The behaviour is similar to the previous preference pane, the width does adapt correctly, the height stays the same, forever. Not that it really matters but I am using macOS 14.7.6 on an M2 air

I have a SwiftUI document based app. The iOS version has a Scene Delegate: class SceneDelegate: NSObject, UIWindowSceneDelegate { func scene(_ scene: UIScene, openURLContexts URLContexts: Set<UIOpenURLContext>) { for context in URLContexts { let url = context.url // url.scheme = my custom scheme let text = ... extracted from url ... // I want to open a new untitled document with text // but 'newDocument' has been explicitly marked unavailable for iOS } } }

Liquid glass toolbar: showing wrong light/dark on load
I have a dark background and the initial look of the nav bar is showing like there is a light background. See picture. Has anyone experienced this or know of a solution? If I scroll the table up, it will fix itself and start behaving as I'd expect.
