Title: SpriteKit FPS drops significantly on iOS 26.3.1 when touching screen, even in a minimal scene Summary: On a real device running iOS 26.3.1, FPS drops significantly in a very simple SpriteKit scene when touching or moving a finger on the screen. This happens even with a minimal setup where update(_:), touchesBegan, and touchesMoved are not overridden. Because the issue reproduces in a minimal scene, I suspect a performance regression in SpriteKit and/or iOS rather than in app-specific logic. Environment: OS: iOS 26.3.1 Device: iPhone 12 Xcode: 26.3 Build Configuration: Release Framework: SpriteKit FPS measurement: SKView.showsFPS = true Steps to Reproduce: Present a minimal SpriteKit scene. Enable SKView.showsFPS = true. Add only a very small number of nodes to the scene. Do not override update(_:), touchesBegan, or touchesMoved. Repeatedly tap the screen or move a finger around. Actual Result: The scene stays around 60 FPS when idle. FPS drops significantly when touching or moving a finger on the screen. The drop appears to get worse as the node count increases. The issue still reproduces even if touchesMoved is empty or not overridden at all. Expected Result: A minimal scene like this should remain close to 60 FPS even while touching the screen. At minimum, FPS should not drop this much when the app does not perform meaningful touch handling. Notes: Time Profiler does not point to a clear heavy app-specific function; instead, frame time worsens during touch interaction. Since this also reproduces in a minimal scene, I do not believe the root cause is only in my game logic. Similar reports exist describing SpriteKit framerate drops on recent iOS versions, including cases where the issue appears in very simple scenes. Bone deformation
I have been tasked with creating content for the Apple Vision Pro. Just the 3D content and animation, not the programming end of things. I can't seem to get any kind of mesh deformation animation to import into Reality Composer Pro. By that I mean bones/skin, or even point cache. I work on PC, and my main software is 3DS Max, but I'm borrowing an iMac for this job, and was instructed to use RCP on it for testing before handing things off to the programmer. My files open and play fine in other USD programs, like Omniverse, or USD View, just not Reality Composer Pro. I've seen the dinosaur demo in AVP, so I know mesh deformation is possible. If there are other essential tools that might make this possible, I have not been made aware of them. I am experimenting with bouncing things off of Blender, in case that exports better, but not really having luck there either -though my results are different. Thanks.

Can a compute pipeline be as efficient as a render pipeline for rasterization?
I'm new to graphics and game design and I just wanted to know if a compute pipeline could be as efficient as a render pipeline for rasterization and an explanation on how and why. Also is it possible to manually perform rasterization with a render pipeline as in manipulate individual pixel data in a metal texture yourself but do it with a render pipeline?

Dear colleagues, when will you add the ability to manually adjust the display's color temperature? Everyone is familiar with the color rendering issue on the 17 series. Many complain about the display's yellowish tint. I'm one of those people, with a G9N panel, but I can't get whites right; there's a persistent yellow tint. TrueTone only solves this problem under cool, white lighting conditions. So, the display might work as intended, but how can I make it work consistently? If there were a way to manually adjust TrueTone, many users wouldn't be so upset when buying a new device, fearing the display would be yellow. I'd like users to be able to choose their preferred color, warm or cool, and have a scale to adjust it! This would solve the yellowish tint issue on 17 series displays! Thank you.

Metal HUD Logging issue
Hi I've noticed one issue in Metal HUD, but I'm not sure if it is a bug in the Metal HUD or if there is a purpose for this behavior. Metal HUD has an option to send the data to system log in raw format where the numbers are like metal-HUD: ,,,,,..., https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode/monitoring-your-metal-apps-graphics-performance/ If the HUD is displayed, it works just fine, but it seems that when the HUD is hidden (with shift-F9), it still send the data to system log, but the numbers are the same all the time and are not updated while is still being updated. I would expect that it should log the data no matter if the HUD is displayed or not, this of course leads to incorrect FPS calculations Here is an example of the system log entries when the HUD is not visible:

ScreenCaptureKit recording output is corrupted when captureMicrophone is true
Hello everyone, I'm working on a screen recording app using ScreenCaptureKit and I've hit a strange issue. My app records the screen to an .mp4 file, and everything works perfectly until the .captureMicrophone is false In this case, I get a valid, playable .mp4 file. However, as soon as I try to enable the microphone by setting streamConfig.captureMicrophone = true, the recording seems to work, but the final .mp4 file is corrupted and cannot be played by QuickTime or any other player. This happens whether capturesAudio (app audio) is on or off. I've already added the "Privacy - Microphone Usage Description" (NSMicrophoneUsageDescription) to my Info.plist, so I don't think it's a permissions problem. I have my logic split into a ScreenRecorder class that manages state and a CaptureEngine that handles the SCStream. How do I control a SwiftUI TextField with a game controller?
I've coded a text-adventure game in SwiftUI. (My game has no graphics or sound effects.) My app already supports keyboard navigation; I would like to add support for game controllers on iPhone. I can't figure out how to do it. I especially can't see any way to allow controller users to enter text in a TextField. I've read https://developer.apple.com/documentation/gamecontroller/supporting-game-controllers and it's all about button events. There's no reference to SwiftUI at all in that documentation, or any input-method editing at all. The only mention of "keyboard" is about treating the keyboard itself as if it were a game controller providing button events. How do I implement this?

Showing 3D/AR content on multiple pages in iOS with RealityView
Hi. I'm trying to show 3D or AR content in multiple pages on an iOS app but I have found that if a RealityView is used earlier in a flow then future uses will never display the camera feed, even if those earlier uses do not use any spatial tracking. For example, in the following simplified view, the second page realityView will not display the camera feed even though the first view does not use it not start a tracking session. struct ContentView: View { var body: some View { NavigationStack { VStack { RealityView { content in content.camera = .virtual // showing model skipped for brevity } NavigationLink("Second Page") { RealityView { content in content.camera = .spatialTracking } } } } } } What is the way around this so that 3D content can be displayed in multiple places in the app without preventing AR content from working? Present GameCentre Overlay Programmatically
As GKGameCenterViewController has been deprecated, it seems that GKAccessPoint is now the correct way to present the GameCentre leaderboard. But the placement options for the GKAccessPoint are very limited and lead to misaligned UI that looks clunky, as the GKAccessPoint does not align with the system navigation toolbar. Am I missing something here or am I just stuck with a lopsided UI now? I much preferred how this previously worked, where I could present the GKGameCenterViewController in a sheet from my own button

iPad - Can I prevent Multitasking on my app?
I have a game built in Unreal Engine 5.6 which uses tilt motion controls to rotate an object. I've restricted the app to only run in portrait for iPhone, and everything works fine, however for iPad I've had a few issues relating to multitasking and I can't seem to solve it. Forcing the app to portrait only still allows the app to run in landscape mode, but shows black bars either side of the game, and the axes for the motion controls are incorrect. X becomes Y and Y becomes X, and there's no way for my app to know which orientation it is because the container is still technically portrait. Allowing my game to run in all orientations makes the whole app more presentable, it doesn't add black bars and the game is still functional and I'm able to map the controls correctly because the game knows it's landscape rather than portrait. The problem with allowing my app to run in landscape mode is if multitasking is enabled on the ipad, you can resize the app to be portrait, and then I run into the same problem again where the game thinks it's portrait mode and all of the axes are wrong again. I tried getting the true orientation of the device rather than the scene, but the game is intended to be played flat so instead of returning the orientation of the OS the orientation is FaceUp, which doesn't help. I need to either disable multitasking or find a way of getting the orientation of the OS (not the scene or the device). I haven't found how to get the OS orientation so I've been trying to disable multitasking. I've got Requires Fullscreen true and UIApplicationSupportsMultipleScreens false in my info.plist but my iPad still seems to allow the window to be resized in landscape view. Opening the IOS workspace of my project Requires Fullscreen is ticked but under that it says "Supports Multiple Windows" and the arrow button next to it takes my to my info.plist values, but no indication of how I can change it. I'm using Unreal Engine 5.6 and Xcode 16.0. Xcode is old I know, but this version of unreal engine doesn't seem to support any newer.

The description of set_indices in the MSL reference seems incorrect.
I'm currently learning Metal. While reading the reference, I came across a strange description. Page 78 in Version 4 Reference (2025-10-25) says: It is legal to call the following set_indices functions to set the indices if the position in the index buffer is valid and if the position in the index buffer is a multiple of 2 (uchar2 overload) or 2 (uchar4 overload). The index I needs to be in the range [0, max_indices). void set_indices(uint I, uchar2 v); void set_indices(uint I, uchar4 v); However, it seems that the uchar4 overload should be multiple of 4. Furthermore, there is no explanation of what these methods actually do. I believe it involves setting two to four consecutive indices at once, but there is no mention of that here. I would like to know if the above understanding is correct.

Metal useResource vs. MTLFence
Hello, I'm tracking down a bug where useResource doesn't seem to apply proper synchronization when a resource is produced by the render pass then consumed by the compute pass, but when I use MTLFence between the to signal and wait between the render/compute encoders, the artifact goes away. The resource is created with MTLHazardTrackingModeTracked and useResource is called on the compute encoder after the render pass. Metal API Validation doesn't report any warnings/errors. Am I misunderstanding the difference between the two APIs? I dug through the Metal documentation and it looks like useResource should handle synchronization given the resource has MTLHazardTrackingModeTracked but on the other hand, MTLFence should be used to ensure proper synchronization between command encoders. Can someone can clarify the difference between the two APIs and when to use them.

Physics bug in WWE 2K25 with GPTK2.1
The game physics work as expected using GTPK 2.0 using Crossover 24 or Whisky. However, using GPTK 2.1 with Crossover 25, the player and camera physics misbehave. Environment: OS: iOS 26.3.1 Device: iPhone 12 Xcode: 26.3 Build Configuration: Release Framework: SpriteKit FPS measurement: SKView.showsFPS = true Steps to Reproduce: Present a minimal SpriteKit scene. Enable SKView.showsFPS = true. Add only a very small number of nodes to the scene. Do not override update(_:), touchesBegan, or touchesMoved. Repeatedly tap the screen or move a finger around. Actual Result: The scene stays around 60 FPS when idle. FPS drops significantly when touching or moving a finger on the screen. The drop appears to get worse as the node count increases. The issue still reproduces even if touchesMoved is empty or not overridden at all. Expected Result: A minimal scene like this should remain close to 60 FPS even while touching the screen. At minimum, FPS should not drop this much when the app does not perform meaningful touch handling. Notes: Time Profiler does not point to a clear heavy app-specific function; instead, frame time worsens during touch interaction. Since this also reproduces in a minimal scene, I do not believe the root cause is only in my game logic. Similar reports exist describing SpriteKit framerate drops on recent iOS versions, including cases where the issue appears in very simple scenes. Bone deformation
I have been tasked with creating content for the Apple Vision Pro. Just the 3D content and animation, not the programming end of things. I can't seem to get any kind of mesh deformation animation to import into Reality Composer Pro. By that I mean bones/skin, or even point cache. I work on PC, and my main software is 3DS Max, but I'm borrowing an iMac for this job, and was instructed to use RCP on it for testing before handing things off to the programmer. My files open and play fine in other USD programs, like Omniverse, or USD View, just not Reality Composer Pro. I've seen the dinosaur demo in AVP, so I know mesh deformation is possible. If there are other essential tools that might make this possible, I have not been made aware of them. I am experimenting with bouncing things off of Blender, in case that exports better, but not really having luck there either -though my results are different. Thanks.

Can a compute pipeline be as efficient as a render pipeline for rasterization?
I'm new to graphics and game design and I just wanted to know if a compute pipeline could be as efficient as a render pipeline for rasterization and an explanation on how and why. Also is it possible to manually perform rasterization with a render pipeline as in manipulate individual pixel data in a metal texture yourself but do it with a render pipeline?

Dear colleagues, when will you add the ability to manually adjust the display's color temperature? Everyone is familiar with the color rendering issue on the 17 series. Many complain about the display's yellowish tint. I'm one of those people, with a G9N panel, but I can't get whites right; there's a persistent yellow tint. TrueTone only solves this problem under cool, white lighting conditions. So, the display might work as intended, but how can I make it work consistently? If there were a way to manually adjust TrueTone, many users wouldn't be so upset when buying a new device, fearing the display would be yellow. I'd like users to be able to choose their preferred color, warm or cool, and have a scale to adjust it! This would solve the yellowish tint issue on 17 series displays! Thank you.

I'm currently converting my game from SceneKit to RealityKit. What's the easiest way to run an animation in which every frame I want to run custom code, similar to SCNAction.customAction which accepts a callback that is called repeatedly until the action completes?

Metal HUD Logging issue
Hi I've noticed one issue in Metal HUD, but I'm not sure if it is a bug in the Metal HUD or if there is a purpose for this behavior. Metal HUD has an option to send the data to system log in raw format where the numbers are like metal-HUD: ,,,,,..., https://developer.apple.com/documentation/xcode/monitoring-your-metal-apps-graphics-performance/ If the HUD is displayed, it works just fine, but it seems that when the HUD is hidden (with shift-F9), it still send the data to system log, but the numbers are the same all the time and are not updated while is still being updated. I would expect that it should log the data no matter if the HUD is displayed or not, this of course leads to incorrect FPS calculations Here is an example of the system log entries when the HUD is not visible:

ParticleEmitterComponent Position Offset Issue After iOS 26.1 Update – Seeking Solutions & Workarounds

Disabling autofill for non-interactive PDFs
My IOS app generates pdf files. Every time my users open the generated pdf files, the autofill popup jumps out, but my pdf file is NOT for interacting. I'm here to ask if there's a way to mark my pdf files as "not a form", like in metadata or anywhere else?

ScreenCaptureKit recording output is corrupted when captureMicrophone is true
Hello everyone, I'm working on a screen recording app using ScreenCaptureKit and I've hit a strange issue. My app records the screen to an .mp4 file, and everything works perfectly until the .captureMicrophone is false In this case, I get a valid, playable .mp4 file. However, as soon as I try to enable the microphone by setting streamConfig.captureMicrophone = true, the recording seems to work, but the final .mp4 file is corrupted and cannot be played by QuickTime or any other player. This happens whether capturesAudio (app audio) is on or off. I've already added the "Privacy - Microphone Usage Description" (NSMicrophoneUsageDescription) to my Info.plist, so I don't think it's a permissions problem. I have my logic split into a ScreenRecorder class that manages state and a CaptureEngine that handles the SCStream. How do I control a SwiftUI TextField with a game controller?
I've coded a text-adventure game in SwiftUI. (My game has no graphics or sound effects.) My app already supports keyboard navigation; I would like to add support for game controllers on iPhone. I can't figure out how to do it. I especially can't see any way to allow controller users to enter text in a TextField. I've read https://developer.apple.com/documentation/gamecontroller/supporting-game-controllers and it's all about button events. There's no reference to SwiftUI at all in that documentation, or any input-method editing at all. The only mention of "keyboard" is about treating the keyboard itself as if it were a game controller providing button events. How do I implement this?

IKRig jitters with warning getMoCapTask

Showing 3D/AR content on multiple pages in iOS with RealityView
Hi. I'm trying to show 3D or AR content in multiple pages on an iOS app but I have found that if a RealityView is used earlier in a flow then future uses will never display the camera feed, even if those earlier uses do not use any spatial tracking. Present GameCentre Overlay Programmatically
As GKGameCenterViewController has been deprecated, it seems that GKAccessPoint is now the correct way to present the GameCentre leaderboard. But the placement options for the GKAccessPoint are very limited and lead to misaligned UI that looks clunky, as the GKAccessPoint does not align with the system navigation toolbar. Am I missing something here or am I just stuck with a lopsided UI now? I much preferred how this previously worked, where I could present the GKGameCenterViewController in a sheet from my own button

iPad - Can I prevent Multitasking on my app?
I have a game built in Unreal Engine 5.6 which uses tilt motion controls to rotate an object. I've restricted the app to only run in portrait for iPhone, and everything works fine, however for iPad I've had a few issues relating to multitasking and I can't seem to solve it. Forcing the app to portrait only still allows the app to run in landscape mode, but shows black bars either side of the game, and the axes for the motion controls are incorrect. X becomes Y and Y becomes X, and there's no way for my app to know which orientation it is because the container is still technically portrait. Allowing my game to run in all orientations makes the whole app more presentable, it doesn't add black bars and the game is still functional and I'm able to map the controls correctly because the game knows it's landscape rather than portrait. The problem with allowing my app to run in landscape mode is if multitasking is enabled on the ipad, you can resize the app to be portrait, and then I run into the same problem again where the game thinks it's portrait mode and all of the axes are wrong again. I tried getting the true orientation of the device rather than the scene, but the game is intended to be played flat so instead of returning the orientation of the OS the orientation is FaceUp, which doesn't help. I need to either disable multitasking or find a way of getting the orientation of the OS (not the scene or the device). I haven't found how to get the OS orientation so I've been trying to disable multitasking. I've got Requires Fullscreen true and UIApplicationSupportsMultipleScreens false in my info.plist but my iPad still seems to allow the window to be resized in landscape view. Opening the IOS workspace of my project Requires Fullscreen is ticked but under that it says "Supports Multiple Windows" and the arrow button next to it takes my to my info.plist values, but no indication of how I can change it. I'm using Unreal Engine 5.6 and Xcode 16.0. Xcode is old I know, but this version of unreal engine doesn't seem to support any newer.

The description of set_indices in the MSL reference seems incorrect.
I'm currently learning Metal. While reading the reference, I came across a strange description. Page 78 in Version 4 Reference (2025-10-25) says: It is legal to call the following set_indices functions to set the indices if the position in the index buffer is valid and if the position in the index buffer is a multiple of 2 (uchar2 overload) or 2 (uchar4 overload). The index I needs to be in the range [0, max_indices). void set_indices(uint I, uchar2 v); void set_indices(uint I, uchar4 v); However, it seems that the uchar4 overload should be multiple of 4. Furthermore, there is no explanation of what these methods actually do. I believe it involves setting two to four consecutive indices at once, but there is no mention of that here. I would like to know if the above understanding is correct.

Metal useResource vs. MTLFence
Hello, I'm tracking down a bug where useResource doesn't seem to apply proper synchronization when a resource is produced by the render pass then consumed by the compute pass, but when I use MTLFence between the to signal and wait between the render/compute encoders, the artifact goes away. The resource is created with MTLHazardTrackingModeTracked and useResource is called on the compute encoder after the render pass. Metal API Validation doesn't report any warnings/errors. Am I misunderstanding the difference between the two APIs? I dug through the Metal documentation and it looks like useResource should handle synchronization given the resource has MTLHazardTrackingModeTracked but on the other hand, MTLFence should be used to ensure proper synchronization between command encoders. Can someone can clarify the difference between the two APIs and when to use them.

Physics bug in WWE 2K25 with GPTK2.1
The game physics work as expected using GTPK 2.0 using Crossover 24 or Whisky. However, using GPTK 2.1 with Crossover 25, the player and camera physics misbehave. Is there a workaround to achieve truly transparent clear colors while maintaining a shared depth buffer for occlusion testing? The core issue seems to be that SceneKit automatically renders the scene background in every DRAW_SCENE pass when a shared depth buffer is detected, overriding any clearColor settings.
