Empty dSYM file detected & Error: type for self cannot be reconstructed: type for typename
I'm pulling my hair out here with this new Xcode 16, it complains that my app's dSYM is empty though it's clearly not, it's about 25MB. I'm working on a project using an internal static library, everything is built inhouse using swift, we own all the source code. It worked just fine until the other week, when I updated the Xcode, and now I can't debug anything. I keep getting "type for self cannot be reconstructed" when I run "po self.some_property". Why is that? The Debug information Format is set to DWARF with dSYM File for both the executable and lib projects. I've been a Unix guy since before I knew myself and I enjoy fixing things myself, down to bare metal, but man, this bug is driving me crazy. Is it even a bug?? It's the first time in more than 15 years since I started coding on Mac and iPhone when a bug has defeated me. I was always able to fix things using just the documentation and google, but the Apple toolchain is getting worse and worse nowadays. I remember the time when Apple made the complicated things simple, now they make the simple things complicated :( I just split the static lib from the main project one year ago, because of the ridiculously long build time. Should I merge back all the code in a single project? Something seems wrong to me. So I created this account to ask the masters. How can I get back my debug info (and sanity)? Using Xcode 15 is not an option because it doesn't run on Sequoia.

LLDB error: type for self cannot be reconstructed: type for typename
All is fine in Xcode15, no LLDB errors whatsoever, but in Xcode16 I can't get any variable displayed in the console because of the following error: error: type for self cannot be reconstructed: type for typename "$......." was not found (cached) error: Couldn't realize Swift AST type of self. Hint: using `v` to directly inspect variables and fields may still work. I've checked the output of swift-healthcheck and there are several messages like this: SwiftASTContextForExpressions(module: "ROA", cu: "ROA+ViewLayer.swift")::LoadOneModule() -- Missing Swift module or Clang module found for "UIKit", "imported" via SwiftDWARFImporterDelegate. Hint: Register Swift modules with the linker using -add_ast_path. I added -add_ast_path to the OTHER_LDFLAGS in the faulty module's build settings but no luck. How can I debug my project in Xcode16?

Mac (Designed for iPad) not been able to install on Mac testflight
Hi I developed an iPhone app but now I want to release the same app for iPad and Mac (Design for iPad). I made the changes below but I still not been able to install the app on my Mac. It says the app is incompatible but my Mac is MacBook Pro M2 which fills the requirements to install it. Things I did so my iPhone app could have support for iPad and Mac Added iPad and Mac (Designed for iPad) for the supported destinations Change the Status Bar Style to Require full screen Changed iOS minimum Deployments iOS to 17.6 Updated the launch screen logo so stays in the middle Xcode version 16.2 See the sccreenshots of the Xcode configuration and of the TestFlight on my MacBook Pro M2 Is there anything else I need to do? Thanks.

NO_CRASH_STACK with different number of crashes from the App Store.
Hello. For the last few months I have been facing a situation for which I do not understand either the reason or the solution. Here is an example for the last few weeks: In App Store Connect it shows 214 crashes for the last week In Xcode it shows 56 crashes for the last 2 weeks without stack traces (NO_CRASH_STACK) In Firebase Crashlytics there is not a single crash. When I click "Show in Finder" it opens a folder with .xccrashpoint files. As far as I understood from the instructions on posting crash reports - this is not what is needed. Interesting point: it looks like the errors occur on iOS 15-16 devices. I have several questions: Why is the number of crashes in Xcode different from the number in App Store Connect? Where are the other crashes? How can I understand what the problem is if there are no stack traces in Xcode?

App Stuck on Launch Screen When Debugging on iOS 18.5 Device with Xcode 16.3
I am using a Mac computer running macOS 15.5 with Xcode version 16.3 (16E140) and an iPhone XS Max on iOS 18.5. When debugging my app on the real device using Xcode, the app gets stuck on the launch screen and fails to proceed to the main interface. There is no output in the Xcode console, and the top of the window continuously shows "attaching to [app name] on [iPhone name]". Here are the details: The same issue occurred when the phone was running iOS 18.4.1. When I tested on another real device running iOS 17, the app launched and ran normally. I’ve tried clearing the cache, but it didn’t help. I deleted the ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/iOS DeviceSupport folder, let it re-download the necessary files, and ran the app again, but the issue persists. I’m currently out of ideas and would appreciate any assistance.

CPListTemplate in CarPlay Simulator: Multiple Items Selected on Tap
I am encountering an issue while running my CarPlay app in the simulator using CPListTemplate. On app launch, when I tap on the first item in the list and then tap on the second item, both items remain selected instead of only the latest tapped item. This behavior does not align with the expected single-item selection functionality. Has anyone else faced this issue? Is there a workaround or a known resolution for this behavior?

Application crashes referencing callAsyncJavaScript
When referencing WebKit’s function callAsyncJavaScript, any iOS app crashes immediately on startup when running in simulator. On device, it does not crash. The error message is: dyld[9892]: Symbol not found: _$sSo9WKWebViewC6WebKitE19callAsyncJavaScript_9arguments2inAF17completionHandlerySS_SDySSypGSo11WKFrameInfoCSgSo14WKContentWorldCys6ResultOyyps5Error_pGcSgtF Furthermore, this only happens for some simulators. With Xcode 16.3, it’s simulators 18.0 and prior. With Xcode 16.4 RC1 it includes simulators iOS 18.5 and 18.4 but works correctly on earlier versions of simulator. The reproduction path is easy. Example file attached. This used to work about 3 weeks or a month ago, which is perplexing. As a workaround I replaced the function with evaluateJavaScript which does not crash, but that is not the desired method to use for us. The attached file can reproduce it easily - just refernece this view from the default ContentView in a new project. TestWebView.swift

ActivityKit linker error
I have a ContentView in my app which includes the line of code FileUploadProgressAttributes. this struct is defined in a file included in the target FileUploadProgressExtension. and it is an ActivityAttributes. in ContentView I imported FileUploadProgressExtension, and the xcode is able to find the FileUploadProgressAttributes during prebuild. but during build, it gives me Undefined symbols for architecture arm64: "FileUploadProgressExtension.FileUploadProgressAttributes.init(filename: Swift.String) -> FileUploadProgressExtension.FileUploadProgressAttributes the workaround i found is to add the file with the FileUploadProgressAttributes to my app's target, but I'm not sure if this is the right thing to do. When Xcode created the extension for me, it added the extension target as a target dependency of my app. so obviously if i added this file to my app target it makes the extension target pointless. First time working with widgets so I'm not sure if I'm missing something.

Using devicectl to observe Darwin Notifications
Hello, I'm trying to use devicectl to observe Darwin Notifications on my iPhone. Instructions: OVERVIEW: Observe a Darwin notification on a device. Note that this command will wait for 300 seconds by default before exiting. You can override this by providing a different --timeout value. USAGE: devicectl device notification observe --device <uuid|ecid|udid|name> --name <name> ... [--verbose] [--quiet] [--timeout <seconds>] [--json-output <path>] [--log-output <path>] DEVICE OPTIONS: -d, --device <uuid|ecid|udid|name> The identifier, ECID, UDID, or name of the device. COMMAND OPTIONS: --name <name> The name of the Darwin notification. This can be passed multiple times to observe multiple Darwin notifications. OUTPUT OPTIONS: -v, --verbose If given, provide more logging output than normal. -q, --quiet If given, output will include only errors. -t, --timeout <seconds> The overall command timeout in seconds. If this limit is exceeded the command is abandoned as a failure. -j, --json-output <path> An optional path to write a JSON file with command results. Note: JSON output to a user-provided file on disk is the ONLY supported interface for scripts/programs to consume command output. -l, --log-output <path> An optional path to write all logging otherwise passed to stdout/stderr. OPTIONS: --version Show the version. -h, --help Show help information. Executed command: xcrun devicectl device notification observe --device XXX --name com.example.Notification Result: Darwin notification observation started. 300.0 seconds remaining: On iOS, I'm posting a Darwin notification using: CFNotificationCenterPostNotification(center, CFNotificationName("com.example.Notification" as CFString), nil, nil, true) My CFNotificationCenterAddObserver on iOS does receive this notification. But the devicectl does not. Also no results when I remove the observer on iOS. How can I send a notification in such a way that it is picked up by the devicectl observer?

Xcode 16.3 / 16.4 UINavigationBar rendering issue?
I've recently upgraded to Sequoia and Xcode 16.3 (now 16.4RC) and a significant change I've noticed vs 16.2 is that the height of UINavigationBar components in storyboards and XIBs is incorrect. Xcode 16.2: Xcode 16.4: This only affects simulated metrics in storyboard / XIB files. I have been unable to find any discussion of this issue anywhere online. Is this actually an Xcode bug that has gone unnoticed / unfixed or is there some underlying intentional change here that I'm unaware of?

Xcode 16.3 Test Coverage not shown
Test Coverage shows "No Coverage Data" on Xcode 16.3. Code Coverage is checked in my scheme. The same configurations worked on Xcode 16.2 but don't work on Xcode 16.3. any update on when it will be fixed?

Variable name auto-complete gone from lldb?
Ever since updating to Xcode 16.3, auto-completing variable names in lldb does not work. Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround to get it do auto-complete again?

Granting Microphone Access through in-app authorisation request on the VisionOS 2.4 Simulator causes it to crash
When requesting authorisation to gain access to the user's microphone in the visionOS 2.4 simulator, the simulator crashes upon the user clicking allow. Using Swift 6, code below.
