Apple-hosted managed assets
Hi, anyone managed to make this work? https://developer.apple.com/documentation/backgroundassets Trying for past few days and can't make it work. Following their official documentation, also this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3jpgZrB1uo, but it seems I am stuck at: try await AssetPackManager.shared.ensureLocalAvailability(of: assetPack) What I did: Manifest files created, info.plist configured, asset pack created and uploaded to appstoreconnect via transporter, successfully assigned to app and ready for internal testing. Added to my code: let assetPack = try await AssetPackManager.shared.assetPack(withID: "Tutorial") try await AssetPackManager.shared.ensureLocalAvailability(of: assetPack) let videoData = try AssetPackManager.shared.contents(at: "Videos/Introduction.m4v") but no luck at all.... is anywhere any demo project available to download to compare with my project?

How do I get HomeKit accessories to show up in the iOS Simulator?
I'm finding developing for HomeKit using the iOS Simulator utterly confounding. All of my home's actual HomeKit accessories show up fine when I run the HomeKit app I'm developing on my actual phone. But none show up when I run my app in the iOS Simulator. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be? I decided to run the HomeKit Accessory Simulator in an attempt to get something to show up in the iOS Simulator, but the accessories I've created there don't show up in the Simulator either. How do I get devices to show up in the iOS Simulator? Thanks.

Linker nondeterminism (ld_new) involving branch islands
Hi, I'm investigating what looks like possibly nondeterministic behavior when linking large iOS app binaries. I do not have a concise reproduction of the issue yet, but am trying to hunt down possible leads. In particular, the problem appears to surface when invoking clang to link a binary and the resulting order of the 'branch island' instructions appears to be random each time the binary is linked (as shown by the link map output). I was wondering if anyone with insight into the linker's current implementation could shed light on whether that is expected, and if there is anything that can be done to prevent it. FWIW, it seems like it might be size-dependent as smaller app binaries don't appear to exhibit the same behavior. I'd be glad to share more specifics and hopefully a reproduction if I can ever find one eventually. Some environment info (Xcode 16.4 toolchain): clang -v: Apple clang version 17.0.0 (clang-1700.0.13.5) Target: arm64-apple-darwin24.6.0 Thread model: posix InstalledDir: /Applications/Xcode-16.4.0.app/Contents/Developer/Toolchains/XcodeDefault.xctoolchain/usr/bin ld -v: @(#)PROGRAM:ld PROJECT:ld-1167.5 BUILD 01:45:05 Apr 30 2025 configured to support archs: armv6 armv7 armv7s arm64 arm64e arm64_32 i386 x86_64 x86_64h armv6m armv7k armv7m armv7em will use ld-classic for: armv6 armv7 armv7s i386 armv6m armv7k armv7m armv7em LTO support using: LLVM version 17.0.0 (static support for 29, runtime is 29) TAPI support using: Apple TAPI version 17.0.0 (tapi-1700.0.3.5)

Installer package is terminated after 600 seconds
Hi, I have an installer package that runs a postinstall script. The script can take a long time to complete, as one thing it does is copy about 10-30 GB of files using the rsync tool. We noticed on macOS 15 that the installer would fail almost exactly 10 minutes after it started. Looking in the /var/log/install.log, I see a message like this: 2025-07-01 12:54:32-07 Work-M1 package_script_service[21562]: PackageKit: Terminating PKInstallTask(pid:21573). Task has exceeded its 600 seconds of runtime. This does not happen in my testing on macOS 12 (Monterey) I have a few questions about this: A) Is this documented, and which OS introduced this? B) Is there a way a developer can extend or disable the time limit via a setting in the installer package. Or if not, is there a way end end user can disable it temporarily on their system? Thanks, Andrew

Xcode 26 Beta Simulator Bug: Issue with Fast Account Creation Using Passkeys
Hi everyone, We’re testing the new iOS 26 capability, Performing Fast Account Creation with Passkeys, using the sample project provided here: Performing Fast Account Creation with Passkeys. When running the project on the iOS 26 simulator and tapping the "Sign Up" button, we encounter the following error: The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.AuthenticationServices.AuthorizationError error 1010.) From the header file, this error is described as: /// ASAuthorizationError.h /// This error signals that the device is not currently set up to create passkeys. ASAuthorizationErrorDeviceNotConfiguredForPasskeyCreation AS_API_AVAILABLE(ios(19.0), macos(16.0), visionos(3.0)) = 1010, We’ve tested this on both Xcode 26 Beta 1 and Beta 2, and the error persists on the simulator in both versions. However, when testing on a physical iOS 26 device, everything works as expected, just like in the WWDC demo. Could this issue be related to missing simulator settings? Or is it a potential bug in the simulator? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Can I get notified when my watchOS app is terminated by the system (e.g. watchdog)?
Hi all, I’m developing a watchOS app and have seen cases where the app is terminated by the system — for example, due to CPU usage limits being exceeded (watchdog termination). Here’s a portion of one of the crash reports: Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGKILL) Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000 Termination Reason: CAROUSEL 2343432205 <RBSTerminateContext| domain:10 code:0x8BADF00D explanation:[app<app_name>:898] Failed to terminate gracefully after 5.0s ProcessVisibility: Foreground ProcessState: Running WatchdogEvent: process-exit WatchdogVisibility: Foreground WatchdogCPUStatistics: ( "Elapsed total CPU time (seconds): 11.280 (user 9.800, system 1.480), 100% CPU", "Elapsed application CPU time (seconds): 5.162, 46% CPU" ) reportType:CrashLog maxTerminationResistance:Interactive> My questions: 1.) Is there any way to get notified (via Crashlytics, Xcode Organizer, or any other reporting mechanism) when this type of system-level termination happens — similar to how we’re notified of crashes? 2.)Is there any way for a watchOS app to receive runtime warnings from the system when it’s about to exceed CPU or memory limits — similar to UIApplication.didReceiveMemoryWarningNotification on iOS? Thanks in advance!

Information about legacy (new app)
Hello I developed an app for my cousin (I wrote all the code myself), but she’ll be the one managing it once it’s published. She’ll take care of the content, updates, and anything admin-related. Right now, the app uses my Firebase account and my Apple Developer account (App Store Connect), which I set up at the start of the project. I’m wondering: • Am I at risk legally or financially if the accounts stay under my name, even though I won’t be involved in the app after release? • Is it possible to migrate the project to her email, meaning transfer Firebase and the Apple Developer account to her own account, so that everything is properly under her control? Thanks in advance for any insights or experiences

Provisioning Profile Does Not Include Required Speech Recognition Entitlement
I am building an iOS app with the App ID: com.echo.eyes.app I have a paid Apple Developer membership and have followed all correct procedures, including: Adding com.apple.developer.speech-recognition manually to the App.entitlements file Setting Info.plist keys for microphone and speech permissions Assigning my Apple Developer Team to the project Setting App/App.entitlements under Code Signing Entitlements Despite all this, Xcode automatic signing fails, and I receive the error: vbnet Copy Edit Provisioning profile 'iOS Team Provisioning Profile: com.echo.eyes.app' doesn't include the com.apple.developer.speech-recognition entitlement. I am unable to add the entitlement via the Capabilities section, and no method I try will allow provisioning to succeed. Please update this App ID to include the required entitlement in the provisioning profile. This issue is preventing all voice recognition functionality. Thank you.

The bundle does not contain an app icon for iPhone / iPod Touch of exactly '120x120' pixels
Trying to publish my .NET MAUI app via the transporter after migrating it from Xamarin (using the App Store Connect feature directly within visual studio 2022 has never worked for me) and getting this error. Validation failed (409) Missing required icon file. The bundle does not contain an app icon for iPhone / iPod Touch of exactly '120x120' pixels, in .png format for iOS versions >= 10.0. To support older versions of iOS, the icon may be required in the bundle outside of an asset catalog. Make sure the Info.plist file includes appropriate entries referencing the file. I have setup my maui app to use the asset catalog with the .pngs setup as bundled resources and I have also tried using the .svg method, both resulting in this error. When I zip and unzip my .ipa file I can see the asset catalog as part of the payload (C:\Archives\AIM_MAUI\Payload\AIM_MAUI.app\AppIcon.appiconset) Here is the contents of the Contents.json file { "images" : [ { "filename" : "icon_40.png", "idiom" : "iphone", "scale" : "2x", "size" : "20x20" }, { "filename" : "icon_60.png", "idiom" : "iphone", "scale" : "3x", "size" : "20x20" }, { "filename" : "icon_58.png", "idiom" : "iphone", "scale" : "2x", "size" : "29x29" }, { "filename" : "icon_87.png", "idiom" : "iphone", "scale" : "3x", "size" : "29x29" }, { "filename" : "icon_80.png", "idiom" : "iphone", "scale" : "2x", "size" : "40x40" }, { "filename" : "icon_120.png", "idiom" : "iphone", "scale" : "3x", "size" : "40x40" }, { "filename" : "icon_120.png", "idiom" : "iphone", "scale" : "2x", "size" : "60x60" }, { "filename" : "icon_180.png", "idiom" : "iphone", "scale" : "3x", "size" : "60x60" }, { "filename" : "icon_20.png", "idiom" : "ipad", "scale" : "1x", "size" : "20x20" }, { "filename" : "icon_40.png", "idiom" : "ipad", "scale" : "2x", "size" : "20x20" }, { "filename" : "icon_29.png", "idiom" : "ipad", "scale" : "1x", "size" : "29x29" }, { "filename" : "icon_58.png", "idiom" : "ipad", "scale" : "2x", "size" : "29x29" }, { "filename" : "icon_40.png", "idiom" : "ipad", "scale" : "1x", "size" : "40x40" }, { "filename" : "icon_80.png", "idiom" : "ipad", "scale" : "2x", "size" : "40x40" }, { "filename" : "icon_76.png", "idiom" : "ipad", "scale" : "1x", "size" : "76x76" }, { "filename" : "icon_152.png", "idiom" : "ipad", "scale" : "2x", "size" : "76x76" }, { "filename" : "icon_167.png", "idiom" : "ipad", "scale" : "2x", "size" : "83.5x83.5" }, { "filename" : "icon_1024.png", "idiom" : "ios-marketing", "scale" : "1x", "size" : "1024x1024" } ], "info" : { "author" : "xcode", "version" : 1 } } I have tried manually using the actool tool from Xcode 16.4 to create the Assets.car file that is seeming to be missing and leading to this issue but even that can't compile the icons (or even a simple sample appicon.appiconset from Xcode with a singular .png added) and I am beginning to think there's an issue with the actool itself. I have tried reinstalling Xcode and every time the actool is just a partial download or a stub of the tool and not the real tool (actool size on my Mac is only 170kb and per my research it should be at least a couple mb) Is there any workaround?

Building an app with both GUI and Command Line versions
I use CMake for my builds not the XCode GUI. I want to be able to build a single .app that contains both the GUI version and the command line version. I have seen products that ship both as part of the same .app (e.g. CMake) so this is clearly entirely possible, the 64k question is HOW? Right now I am building them as separate apps - lets call them DSS and DSSCL (*). The code base for each is in its own directory - each with its own CMakelists.txt file. My initial thoughts are to change the build for DSSCL so it doesn't create a bundle and then simply copy the DSSCL command and related .qm files into DSS.app/.../MacOS. However that's likely enough totally wrong, so how should I handle this please. As much detail as possible please, I am very new to macOS development -please don't assume knowledge of stuff that's second nature to you Many thanks David (*) Strictly they are DeepSkyStacker and DeepSkyStackerCL

lldb-dap closes connection
If I build an x64 binary on my M4 Mini, when I try to debug it using Visual Studio remote debugging the connection is closed, which means I cannot debug my code in x64 mode. I need to be able to do this as I have architecture specific code. I have Rosetta installed. FWIW I have the same issue with lldb-mi :( David

Unexpected app version in logs — does MARKETING_VERSION change dynamically?
Hello, I've encountered unexpected behavior related to version information in our app logs, and I'd like to ask for some advice. We reviewed logs collected from a user running our app (currently available on the App Store). The logs are designed to include both the build number and the app version. Based on the build number in the logs, we believe the installed app version on the user's device is 1.0.3. However, the app version recorded in the logs is 1.1.5, which is the latest version currently available on the App Store. In our project, we set the app version using the MARKETING_VERSION environment variable. This value is configured via XcodeGen, and we define it in a YAML file. Under normal circumstances, the value defined in the YAML file (MARKETING_VERSION = 1.0.3) should be embedded in the app and reflected in the logs. But in this case, the version from the current App Store release (1.1.5) appears instead, which was unexpected. We'd like to know what might cause this behavior, and if there are any known factors that could lead to this. Also, is it possible that MARKETING_VERSION might somehow dynamically reflect the version currently available on the App Store? yaml: info.plist:

Native Git version with Apple Build
By default, it seems 15.6 is shipped with git version 2.39.5 (Apple Git-154) I was wondering when Apple will ship a Git version above 2.43 to resolve this vulnerability. Git Carriage Return Line Feed (CRLF) Vulnerability (CVE-2025-48384) https://github.com/git/git/security/advisories/GHSA-vwqx-4fm8-6qc9 You can install Homebrew then install newer versions of git using Homebrew; however that installs in a new location so the vulnerability is still present as the native version is behind and updated by Apple during software updates Thanks

Hi everyone! I change my iPhone but I don't find the voice to activate "Developer Mode". I remember that I activated this feature with my old Xs in few minutes. I don't understand.... I must add the 16 Pro and the new Watch 10 for testing in Xcode. How? Thanks!
