Push Notification Icon Not Updated on Some Devices After App Icon Change
Hi, We recently updated our app icon, but the push notification icon has not been updated on some devices. It still shows the old icon on: • iPhone 16 Pro — iOS 26 • iPhone 14 — iOS 26 • iPad Pro 11” (M4) — iOS 18.6.2 • iPhone 16 Plus — iOS 18.5 After restarting these devices, the push notification icon is refreshed and displays the new version correctly. Could you advise how we can ensure the push notification icon updates properly on all affected devices without requiring users to restart? Thank you.

How to connect to Apple’s legacy server-to-server subscription endpoints (StoreKit v1) to receive real-time notifications
Our mobile app uses a specific platform for subscription management. At this time,, it's integration with Apple notifications is built around the Server-to-Server Notifications v1 and the traditional verifyReceipt endpoint. At this time, it does not support Server-to-Server Notifications v2, nor has any published documentation or resources on a custom integration path using v2. Our app is built using Flutter and we handle purchases with the in_app_purchase plugin. However, due to the limitation on the system for subscription side, we need to connect to Apple’s legacy server-to-server subscription endpoints (StoreKit v1) to receive real-time notifications and validate receipts. Could you please provide information how to do it?

Notification Identifier not showing on my profile
Im creating a basic app, needs push notification capability. I have created two profiles (development & distribution), selected my app in Identifiers and checked the PN box to enable it (no need for broadcast). I add the profile to Xcode and it says "Provisioning profile "New VP App Jan 2026" doesn't include the Push Notifications capability." What am I missing?

Alarm sounds ios without critical alerts
Hello guys, i need a little help. Im building an alarm clock app, pretty good one, and i have my own sounds i want to use as the alarm ring but notifications on apple cant work when the phone is turned off or the device is in silent mode (Or at least thats how i understand it) unless they have this feature called critical alerts that lets you have notifications even when the phone is turned off or silented. Without this, the phone can do just one beep and only when you open the notification, then it starts ringing but how is this supposed to wake you up? Alarmy has this worked out fine and i cant figure out how, maybe someone here knows. Im thinking maybe they have the critical alerts enabled but then i dont know why Apple would approve theirs and not mine. I tried to submit for the critical alerts feature but apple didn’t approve it saying the app is not the use case and im kinda lost. The whole app could be ruined because of this. So my question is. is there any way how i can use my custom sounds as a notifications on ios even if the phone is turned off or in silent mode+turned off and the app is not straight up running without being approved for critical alerts? Somehow like alarmy does it but i dont know if they have the critical alerts or not. Thank you very much for any kind of help 🙏. For everyone whos reading this, take care!

Server logs confirm consistent API request parameters and frequency. ​​Key Questions​​: Were there any ​​adjustments to response metrics​​ (e.g., success status code definitions) during this period? Have other developers reported similar issues? Were there server-side configuration updates or known incidents on Apple’s end?

Inconsistent VoIP Push Behavior Post Network Restoration
We are observing unexpected behavior in Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) delivery and would appreciate clarification and guidance. Below is a detailed breakdown of the scenario and related questions. Abbreviations: APNP – Apple Push Notification Provider APNS – Apple Push Notification Service Scenario: User1 is registered on iOS device1. Flight Mode is enabled on iOS device1. User2 initiates a call to User1 (Time t = 0 sec). User2 cancels the outgoing call after 5 seconds (Time t = 5 sec). Flight Mode is disabled on iOS device1 after 20 seconds (Time t = 25 sec). Observation: iOS device1 displays an incoming call notification (CallKit UI) after flight mode is turned off, despite the call being cancelled by User2. This notification disappears automatically after approximately 8–10 seconds. Logic Flow: At time t = 0, our APNP sends a VoIP push (priority) to APNS for the incoming call. Since device1 is in flight mode, APNS cannot deliver the push. At t = 25 sec, after flight mode is turned off, APNS delivers the cached VoIP push to device1. The app takes ~5 seconds to initialize (CSDK setup, SIP registration, etc.). It eventually receives a SIP NOTIFY with state="full" and empty dialog info (indicating no active call). Consequently, the CallKit incoming call is removed after ~8 seconds. Questions: → We set the apns-expiration header to 0, expecting that the VoIP push would not be delivered if the device was unreachable when the push was sent. However, APNS still delivers the push 20–30 seconds later, once the device is back online. Q. Why is the apns-expiration header not respected in this case? → Upon receiving the VoIP push, we require ~10–12 seconds to determine if a visible CallKit notification is still relevant (e.g., by completing SIP registration and checking for active dialogs). Q. Is it acceptable, per Apple guidelines, to intentionally delay showing the CallKit UI (incoming call) for 10–15 seconds after receiving the VoIP push? → Apple documentation states that the priority VoIP push channel should be used only for notifying incoming calls, while regular (non-VoIP) pushes should be used for other updates, including call cancellations. Q. What is the rationale behind discouraging the use of the priority VoIP push channel for call cancellation events? In some cases, immediate cancellation notification is as critical as the initial incoming call. Would Apple consider it acceptable to occasionally use the priority VoIP channel for rare call-cancellation scenarios without risking throttling or suspension? → In our implementation, we send an incoming call notification via the priority VoIP channel. Shortly after, we send a call cancellation notification on the regular push channel, marked with "content-available": 1. We expect this regular push to wake the app (triggering application:didReceiveRemoteNotification:fetchCompletionHandler:), but in practice the app never wakes, and our debug logs inside that delegate method never appear. Q. Under what exact conditions does a "content-available": 1 regular push fail to wake the app when it follows a VoIP push? Are there additional requirements (e.g., background modes, rate limits, power optimizations) that could prevent the delegate from being called? → According to Apple documentation: “APNs stores only one notification per bundle ID. When multiple notifications are sent to the same device for the same bundle ID, APNs keeps only the latest one.” However, in our tests: If a device is offline when APNs receives both: (a) a priority VoIP push for an incoming call, (b) a regular push for call cancellation (same bundle ID), Upon the device reconnecting, APNs still delivers the earlier VoIP push, instead of discarding it and delivering only the most recent (cancellation) notification. Q. Why doesn’t APNs replace the queued VoIP push with the newer regular push when both share the same bundle ID? Is this expected behavior due to channel type differences (VoIP vs. regular), or is there a way to ensure that the latest notification (even if regular) supersedes the earlier VoIP push? We’d appreciate your input or recommendations on handling such delayed pushes and any best practices for VoIP push expiration handling and call UI timing.

Are notification pushes not being received when in Picture-in-Picture mode?
Hello, I recently had an unusual experience, and I’m wondering if this is related to Apple’s policies, so I wanted to ask. While a call is in Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode, notification pushes from the same app do not appear. The API is being triggered, but the notification banner does not show on the device. Once PIP is closed, the notifications start appearing normally again. Is this behavior enforced by Apple’s policies? What’s interesting is that banners from other apps do appear — only the banners from the app currently in PIP are not shown.

UNLocationNotificationTrigger not firing reliably in China – possible coordinate system mismatch
Problem Description Location-based notifications added with UNLocationNotificationTrigger and CLCircularRegion do not fire consistently when the user enters the monitored region. Sometimes they work, sometimes they do not. In tests where the user physically enters the region and waits several days, the notification often never triggers. What we’ve confirmed Notification permission is granted Location permission is set to “Always” The notification request is successfully added (no error from UNUserNotificationCenter.add) Pending notification requests are present when checked with getPendingNotificationRequests CLLocationManager didEnterRegion / didExitRegion work when we monitor the same region via startMonitoring(for:) UNLocationNotificationTrigger behavior is inconsistent and unreliable in our tests Reproduction Steps Launch the app and grant notification permission and “Always” location permission Add a region notification (either by current GPS location or by selecting a point from MKLocalSearch) Leave the monitored region Later, physically return into the region Expected: a notification is delivered when entering the region Actual: the notification often does not appear, even after waiting days Our Hypothesis: Coordinate System Mismatch in China We suspect the issue may be related to coordinate systems in mainland China. In China, Apple MapKit and MKLocalSearch use GCJ-02 (the “Mars” coordinate system required by local regulations). Device GPS and CLCircularRegion / Core Location use WGS-84. If an app supplies GCJ-02 coordinates to CLCircularRegion (e.g. from MapKit or search), the region center may be offset by hundreds of meters from the actual WGS-84 position. That could make the system’s “inside region” check fail, even when the user is physically inside the intended area. Questions for Apple Does CLCircularRegion (and therefore UNLocationNotificationTrigger) expect coordinates in WGS-84? If so, should apps in China convert GCJ-02 to WGS-84 before passing coordinates to CLCircularRegion? Is there any official guidance or documentation for handling coordinate systems when using location-based notifications in mainland China? Are there known limitations or special requirements for UNLocationNotificationTrigger in China (e.g. coordinate system, accuracy, or system behavior) that could explain intermittent or missing triggers?

Consent Revocation Notification
We are in the process of preparing our app to support the new Texas law (SB2420) that takes effect 1/1/2026. After reviewing Apple's recent announcements​/docs concerning this subject, one thing isn't clear to me: how to associate an app install with a​n App Store Server RESCIND_CONSENT notification​ that could be delivered to our server. Our app is totally free so there isn't an originalTransactionId​ or other similar transaction IDs that would be generated as part of an in-app purchase (and then subsequently sent as part of the payload in the notification to our server during an in-app purchase scenario). So my question is: How do I associate an app (free app) install with an App Store Server RESCIND_CONSENT notification​ that is sent to our server​?

Push Notification Gets Removed From Notification Screen When Setting "badge" to 0
Push message on the lock-screen disappears in one specific instance. In general the situation is as follows: the application, upon starting up, sets the badge counter (i.e. notificationCenter.setBadgeCount(3)) the application is being sent to background the screen is locked (it doesn't matter if it's turned on or not) send a push message to the application and set the badge (in aps) to "0" What happens: the screen lights up (unless it's lit up already), the push is being displayed for a very short time and gets hidden. Happens on iOS 18.1, 18.1.1, 18.2. If not setting badge in the aps keys it works correctly. I've created a feedback report https://feedbackassistant.apple.com/feedback/16095572. I am able to reproduce the issue on a sample app 100% of the time :/

Local-only iOS Notifications
Hello! I'm currently trying to add local push notifications to my iOS app (React Native + Expo). Most of the guides and documentation I found online revolve around remote notification capabilities and APNS - I don't need this. The app will register a background task to periodically check if it should trigger a notification, fully local. I'm running into issues when adding the push notification capabilities, saying I need a new provisioning profile and to modify the App ID, which prompts me to set up certificates to communicate with APNS - which I don't need. So I was wondering: Is it possible to build an app without the remote notification setup that can still trigger local notifications? Or is it kind of all-or-nothing, and I need to set up remote notifications as well even if I only need to trigger them locally? Couldn't really find much online about this, and before I invalidate my current certificates and go through a bunch of redundant setup, I thought I'd ask here. Help would be greatly appreciated! What is the expected behavior for a notification service extension if the user has not been prompted for requestAuthorization()
If an iOS application has a notification service extension which gets sent a push, but the user has not been prompted for notification authorization via requestAuthorization() then what is the expected behavior? Will the push get delivered to the NSE but the resulting notification not displayed? Or will the push not get delivered at all to the NSE?

UNNotificationServiceExtension Not Displaying Sender Image
I created a Notification Service Extension to display profile images in place for the app image (i.e. iMessage). I send a remote push notification via Firebase Functions, and in the payload, the relevant profile image url string. The profile image url string in the payload is successfully delivered as it appears in my console log and AppDelegate didReceiveRemoteNotification function. My problem is the profile image does not replace the default app icon image in the remote push notification. Below is my configuration. Any guidance would be appreciated! Notification Service Extension Not Working
I've added a Notification Service Extension as a target to my React Native iOS app following Apple's official documentation. After completing all the setup steps as outlined in the documentation, the notification titles remain unchanged - notifications are arriving without any modifications, suggesting the extension isn't functioning properly.Testing Details: Sending notifications via Apple Push Notification Console Tested on iPhone 16 Pro Max (physical device) Tested on iPhone 15 Pro simulator Both show the same issue - no title modifications The extension appears to not be executing at all. Persistent iOS Signing & UIBackgroundModes Entitlement Issue
Problem Statement We are experiencing a critical and persistent issue preventing the successful signing and building of our iOS application. The core problem is that provisioning profiles, whether automatically generated by Xcode or manually created in the Apple Developer Portal, consistently fail to include the UIBackgroundModes entitlement, leading to a build failure. Specific Question Why are provisioning profiles generated via the Apple Developer Portal and/or Xcode's automatic signing process consistently omitting the UIBackgroundModes entitlement for our App ID, even when this capability is explicitly configured in Xcode? We seek guidance or backend intervention to ensure our provisioning profiles include the necessary entitlement. Expected Outcome We expect to be able to successfully build and sign our iOS application, with provisioning profiles that correctly include the UIBackgroundModes entitlement, allowing for proper implementation of remote notifications. Observed Symptoms Primary Build Error: Consistent build failure with the exact error message: "Automatic signing failed: Provisioning profile 'iOS Team Provisioning Profile: com.scott.ultimatefix' doesn't include the UIBackgroundModes entitlement." Missing Entitlement in Profile (Confirmed by Inspection): Direct inspection of downloaded .mobileprovision files (including those manually generated in the Developer Portal for com.scott.ultimatefix) consistently shows the absence of the UIBackgroundModes entry within the section of the Entitlements dictionary. The aps-environment key for Push Notifications is present, indicating Push Notifications are enabled, but Background Modes are not. Certificates Correctly Recognized in Xcode: Our "Apple Development: Stephen Criscell Scott" and "Apple Distribution: Stephen Criscell Scott" certificates are correctly displayed and recognized in both Keychain Access and Xcode's Preferences > Accounts > Manage Certificates window (without "Not in Keychain" status). Furthermore, the Signing & Capabilities tab for the target in Xcode now correctly shows Signing Certificate: Apple Development: Stephen Criscell Scott. Persistent Issue Across Resets: The problem persists despite extensive local cache invalidation, Xcode reinstallation, and even testing in a fresh macOS user account (which confirmed the issue was not user-specific).

iOS doesn't handle incoming call of Local PUSH when receiving a Local PUSH after receiving an APNs PUSH
I am developing an application that uses NetworkExtension (Local PUSH function) And VoIP(APNs) PUSH. Nowadays, I found a problem on this app doesn't handle incoming call of Local PUSH when receiving a Local PUSH after receiving an APNs PUSH. My confimation result of my app and server log is below. 11:00 AM: my server(PBX) requests a VoIP(APNs) PUSH notification to the APNs. But my app does not receive the VoIP(APNs) PUSH. At this time, my app is running on LAN (Wi-Fi without internet connection), as a result, NetworkExtension was running. so I think this is normal behaviour. 14:55:11 PM: There is an incoming call from the my server(PBX) via local net, and NetworkExtension calls iOS API(API name is reportIncomingCall). However, iOS does not call the delegate didReceiveIncomingCallWithUserInfo for the reportIncomingCall. 14:55:11 PM: At almost the same time, iOS calls the delegate cdidReceiveIncomingPushWithPayload of VoIP PUSH. (instead of call the delegate didReceiveIncomingCallWithUserInfo for the reportIncomingCall?) And the content of this VoIP(APNs) PUSH was the incoming call at "11:00 AM". In other words, the VoIP(APNs) PUSH at 11:00 AM is stuck inside iOS, and at 14:55:11 PM, from NetworkExtension reports it. I feel there is a problem on iOS doesn't handle incoming call of Local PUSH when receiving a Local PUSH after receiving an VoIP(APNs) PUSH. Would you tell me Apple's opioion about this? If this is known problem, Please tell me about it.

Screens added / removed continually when display turned off
I have a function in my app to detect if screens are added or removed, watching for notifications from NSApplication.didChangeScreenParametersNotification. I am seeing some strange behavior when the screen attached to a Mac mini is turned off, macOS will spit out hundreds of the didChangeScreenParametersNotification, all relating to a 'ghost' screen being added and then subsequently replaced with the original screen a second later. This cycle will go on for hours until the screen is turned back on again. I can confirm this also happens with the CoreGraphics equivalent, with flags .added and .removed being the only changes. I would imagine this creates immense churn for all apps watching for screen changes. I've tried debouncing the notifications but even with a delay of 10 seconds this is still being called hundreds of times while the computer is idle and the screen is off. One constant I can see is that the CGDisplayUnitNumber() for the 'ghost' display is always 0, while the logical unit number for the real screen is '1'. Is it safe to ignore screens with 0? I'm trying to find a reliable way to prevent heavy processing for 'false' screens. I'm afraid because this ghost screen has parameters so different to the actual screen, it's otherwise not possible to ignore it as it looks like a new screen. Inconsistent VoIP Push Behavior Post Network Restoration
We are observing unexpected behavior in Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) delivery and would appreciate clarification and guidance. Below is a detailed breakdown of the scenario and related questions. Abbreviations: APNP – Apple Push Notification Provider APNS – Apple Push Notification Service Scenario: User1 is registered on iOS device1. Flight Mode is enabled on iOS device1. User2 initiates a call to User1 (Time t = 0 sec). User2 cancels the outgoing call after 5 seconds (Time t = 5 sec). Flight Mode is disabled on iOS device1 after 20 seconds (Time t = 25 sec). Observation: iOS device1 displays an incoming call notification (CallKit UI) after flight mode is turned off, despite the call being cancelled by User2. This notification disappears automatically after approximately 8–10 seconds. Logic Flow: At time t = 0, our APNP sends a VoIP push (priority) to APNS for the incoming call. Since device1 is in flight mode, APNS cannot deliver the push. At t = 25 sec, after flight mode is turned off, APNS delivers the cached VoIP push to device1. The app takes ~5 seconds to initialize (CSDK setup, SIP registration, etc.). It eventually receives a SIP NOTIFY with state="full" and empty dialog info (indicating no active call). Consequently, the CallKit incoming call is removed after ~8 seconds. Questions: → We set the apns-expiration header to 0, expecting that the VoIP push would not be delivered if the device was unreachable when the push was sent. However, APNS still delivers the push 20–30 seconds later, once the device is back online. Q. Why is the apns-expiration header not respected in this case? → Upon receiving the VoIP push, we require ~10–12 seconds to determine if a visible CallKit notification is still relevant (e.g., by completing SIP registration and checking for active dialogs). Q. Is it acceptable, per Apple guidelines, to intentionally delay showing the CallKit UI (incoming call) for 10–15 seconds after receiving the VoIP push? → Apple documentation states that the priority VoIP push channel should be used only for notifying incoming calls, while regular (non-VoIP) pushes should be used for other updates, including call cancellations. Q. What is the rationale behind discouraging the use of the priority VoIP push channel for call cancellation events? In some cases, immediate cancellation notification is as critical as the initial incoming call. Would Apple consider it acceptable to occasionally use the priority VoIP channel for rare call-cancellation scenarios without risking throttling or suspension? → In our implementation, we send an incoming call notification via the priority VoIP channel. Shortly after, we send a call cancellation notification on the regular push channel, marked with "content-available": 1. We expect this regular push to wake the app (triggering application:didReceiveRemoteNotification:fetchCompletionHandler:), but in practice the app never wakes, and our debug logs inside that delegate method never appear. Q. Under what exact conditions does a "content-available": 1 regular push fail to wake the app when it follows a VoIP push? Are there additional requirements (e.g., background modes, rate limits, power optimizations) that could prevent the delegate from being called? → According to Apple documentation: “APNs stores only one notification per bundle ID. When multiple notifications are sent to the same device for the same bundle ID, APNs keeps only the latest one.” However, in our tests: If a device is offline when APNs receives both: (a) a priority VoIP push for an incoming call, (b) a regular push for call cancellation (same bundle ID), Upon the device reconnecting, APNs still delivers the earlier VoIP push, instead of discarding it and delivering only the most recent (cancellation) notification. Q. Why doesn’t APNs replace the queued VoIP push with the newer regular push when both share the same bundle ID? Is this expected behavior due to channel type differences (VoIP vs. regular), or is there a way to ensure that the latest notification (even if regular) supersedes the earlier VoIP push? We’d appreciate your input or recommendations on handling such delayed pushes and any best practices for VoIP push expiration handling and call UI timing.

Are notification pushes not being received when in Picture-in-Picture mode?
Hello, I recently had an unusual experience, and I’m wondering if this is related to Apple’s policies, so I wanted to ask. While a call is in Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode, notification pushes from the same app do not appear. The API is being triggered, but the notification banner does not show on the device. Once PIP is closed, the notifications start appearing normally again. Is this behavior enforced by Apple’s policies? What’s interesting is that banners from other apps do appear — only the banners from the app currently in PIP are not shown.

UNLocationNotificationTrigger not firing reliably in China – possible coordinate system mismatch
Problem Description Location-based notifications added with UNLocationNotificationTrigger and CLCircularRegion do not fire consistently when the user enters the monitored region. Sometimes they work, sometimes they do not. In tests where the user physically enters the region and waits several days, the notification often never triggers. What we’ve confirmed Notification permission is granted Location permission is set to “Always” The notification request is successfully added (no error from UNUserNotificationCenter.add) Pending notification requests are present when checked with getPendingNotificationRequests CLLocationManager didEnterRegion / didExitRegion work when we monitor the same region via startMonitoring(for:) UNLocationNotificationTrigger behavior is inconsistent and unreliable in our tests Reproduction Steps Launch the app and grant notification permission and “Always” location permission Add a region notification (either by current GPS location or by selecting a point from MKLocalSearch) Leave the monitored region Later, physically return into the region Expected: a notification is delivered when entering the region Actual: the notification often does not appear, even after waiting days Our Hypothesis: Coordinate System Mismatch in China We suspect the issue may be related to coordinate systems in mainland China. In China, Apple MapKit and MKLocalSearch use GCJ-02 (the “Mars” coordinate system required by local regulations). Device GPS and CLCircularRegion / Core Location use WGS-84. If an app supplies GCJ-02 coordinates to CLCircularRegion (e.g. from MapKit or search), the region center may be offset by hundreds of meters from the actual WGS-84 position. That could make the system’s “inside region” check fail, even when the user is physically inside the intended area. Questions for Apple Does CLCircularRegion (and therefore UNLocationNotificationTrigger) expect coordinates in WGS-84? If so, should apps in China convert GCJ-02 to WGS-84 before passing coordinates to CLCircularRegion? Is there any official guidance or documentation for handling coordinate systems when using location-based notifications in mainland China? Are there known limitations or special requirements for UNLocationNotificationTrigger in China (e.g. coordinate system, accuracy, or system behavior) that could explain intermittent or missing triggers?

Consent Revocation Notification
We are in the process of preparing our app to support the new Texas law (SB2420) that takes effect 1/1/2026. After reviewing Apple's recent announcements​/docs concerning this subject, one thing isn't clear to me: how to associate an app install with a​n App Store Server RESCIND_CONSENT notification​ that could be delivered to our server. Our app is totally free so there isn't an originalTransactionId​ or other similar transaction IDs that would be generated as part of an in-app purchase (and then subsequently sent as part of the payload in the notification to our server during an in-app purchase scenario). So my question is: How do I associate an app (free app) install with an App Store Server RESCIND_CONSENT notification​ that is sent to our server​?

Push Notification Icon Not Updated on Some Devices After App Icon Change
Hi, We recently updated our app icon, but the push notification icon has not been updated on some devices. It still shows the old icon on: • iPhone 16 Pro — iOS 26 • iPhone 14 — iOS 26 • iPad Pro 11” (M4) — iOS 18.6.2 • iPhone 16 Plus — iOS 18.5 After restarting these devices, the push notification icon is refreshed and displays the new version correctly. Could you advise how we can ensure the push notification icon updates properly on all affected devices without requiring users to restart? Thank you.

Push Notification Gets Removed From Notification Screen When Setting "badge" to 0
Push message on the lock-screen disappears in one specific instance. In general the situation is as follows: the application, upon starting up, sets the badge counter (i.e. notificationCenter.setBadgeCount(3)) the application is being sent to background the screen is locked (it doesn't matter if it's turned on or not) send a push message to the application and set the badge (in aps) to "0" What happens: the screen lights up (unless it's lit up already), the push is being displayed for a very short time and gets hidden. Happens on iOS 18.1, 18.1.1, 18.2. If not setting badge in the aps keys it works correctly. I've created a feedback report https://feedbackassistant.apple.com/feedback/16095572. I am able to reproduce the issue on a sample app 100% of the time :/

Local-only iOS Notifications
Hello! I'm currently trying to add local push notifications to my iOS app (React Native + Expo). Most of the guides and documentation I found online revolve around remote notification capabilities and APNS - I don't need this. The app will register a background task to periodically check if it should trigger a notification, fully local. I'm running into issues when adding the push notification capabilities, saying I need a new provisioning profile and to modify the App ID, which prompts me to set up certificates to communicate with APNS - which I don't need. So I was wondering: Is it possible to build an app without the remote notification setup that can still trigger local notifications? Or is it kind of all-or-nothing, and I need to set up remote notifications as well even if I only need to trigger them locally? Couldn't really find much online about this, and before I invalidate my current certificates and go through a bunch of redundant setup, I thought I'd ask here. Help would be greatly appreciated! What is the expected behavior for a notification service extension if the user has not been prompted for requestAuthorization()
If an iOS application has a notification service extension which gets sent a push, but the user has not been prompted for notification authorization via requestAuthorization() then what is the expected behavior? Will the push get delivered to the NSE but the resulting notification not displayed? Or will the push not get delivered at all to the NSE?

UNNotificationServiceExtension Not Displaying Sender Image
I created a Notification Service Extension to display profile images in place for the app image (i.e. iMessage). I send a remote push notification via Firebase Functions, and in the payload, the relevant profile image url string. The profile image url string in the payload is successfully delivered as it appears in my console log and AppDelegate didReceiveRemoteNotification function. My problem is the profile image does not replace the default app icon image in the remote push notification. Below is my configuration. Any guidance would be appreciated! I've added a Notification Service Extension as a target to my React Native iOS app following Apple's official documentation. After completing all the setup steps as outlined in the documentation, the notification titles remain unchanged - notifications are arriving without any modifications, suggesting the extension isn't functioning properly.Testing Details: Sending notifications via Apple Push Notification Console Tested on iPhone 16 Pro Max (physical device) Tested on iPhone 15 Pro simulator Both show the same issue - no title modifications The extension appears to not be executing at all. Persistent iOS Signing & UIBackgroundModes Entitlement Issue
Problem Statement We are experiencing a critical and persistent issue preventing the successful signing and building of our iOS application. The core problem is that provisioning profiles, whether automatically generated by Xcode or manually created in the Apple Developer Portal, consistently fail to include the UIBackgroundModes entitlement, leading to a build failure. Specific Question Why are provisioning profiles generated via the Apple Developer Portal and/or Xcode's automatic signing process consistently omitting the UIBackgroundModes entitlement for our App ID, even when this capability is explicitly configured in Xcode? We seek guidance or backend intervention to ensure our provisioning profiles include the necessary entitlement. Expected Outcome We expect to be able to successfully build and sign our iOS application, with provisioning profiles that correctly include the UIBackgroundModes entitlement, allowing for proper implementation of remote notifications. Observed Symptoms Primary Build Error: Consistent build failure with the exact error message: "Automatic signing failed: Provisioning profile 'iOS Team Provisioning Profile: com.scott.ultimatefix' doesn't include the UIBackgroundModes entitlement." Missing Entitlement in Profile (Confirmed by Inspection): Direct inspection of downloaded .mobileprovision files (including those manually generated in the Developer Portal for com.scott.ultimatefix) consistently shows the absence of the UIBackgroundModes entry within the section of the Entitlements dictionary. The aps-environment key for Push Notifications is present, indicating Push Notifications are enabled, but Background Modes are not. Certificates Correctly Recognized in Xcode: Our "Apple Development: Stephen Criscell Scott" and "Apple Distribution: Stephen Criscell Scott" certificates are correctly displayed and recognized in both Keychain Access and Xcode's Preferences > Accounts > Manage Certificates window (without "Not in Keychain" status). Furthermore, the Signing & Capabilities tab for the target in Xcode now correctly shows Signing Certificate: Apple Development: Stephen Criscell Scott. Persistent Issue Across Resets: The problem persists despite extensive local cache invalidation, Xcode reinstallation, and even testing in a fresh macOS user account (which confirmed the issue was not user-specific).

iOS doesn't handle incoming call of Local PUSH when receiving a Local PUSH after receiving an APNs PUSH
I am developing an application that uses NetworkExtension (Local PUSH function) And VoIP(APNs) PUSH. Nowadays, I found a problem on this app doesn't handle incoming call of Local PUSH when receiving a Local PUSH after receiving an APNs PUSH. My confimation result of my app and server log is below. 11:00 AM: my server(PBX) requests a VoIP(APNs) PUSH notification to the APNs. But my app does not receive the VoIP(APNs) PUSH. At this time, my app is running on LAN (Wi-Fi without internet connection), as a result, NetworkExtension was running. so I think this is normal behaviour. 14:55:11 PM: There is an incoming call from the my server(PBX) via local net, and NetworkExtension calls iOS API(API name is reportIncomingCall). However, iOS does not call the delegate didReceiveIncomingCallWithUserInfo for the reportIncomingCall. 14:55:11 PM: At almost the same time, iOS calls the delegate cdidReceiveIncomingPushWithPayload of VoIP PUSH. (instead of call the delegate didReceiveIncomingCallWithUserInfo for the reportIncomingCall?) And the content of this VoIP(APNs) PUSH was the incoming call at "11:00 AM". In other words, the VoIP(APNs) PUSH at 11:00 AM is stuck inside iOS, and at 14:55:11 PM, from NetworkExtension reports it. I feel there is a problem on iOS doesn't handle incoming call of Local PUSH when receiving a Local PUSH after receiving an VoIP(APNs) PUSH. Would you tell me Apple's opioion about this? If this is known problem, Please tell me about it.

Screens added / removed continually when display turned off
I have a function in my app to detect if screens are added or removed, watching for notifications from NSApplication.didChangeScreenParametersNotification. I am seeing some strange behavior when the screen attached to a Mac mini is turned off, macOS will spit out hundreds of the didChangeScreenParametersNotification, all relating to a 'ghost' screen being added and then subsequently replaced with the original screen a second later. This cycle will go on for hours until the screen is turned back on again. I can confirm this also happens with the CoreGraphics equivalent, with flags .added and .removed being the only changes. I would imagine this creates immense churn for all apps watching for screen changes. I've tried debouncing the notifications but even with a delay of 10 seconds this is still being called hundreds of times while the computer is idle and the screen is off. One constant I can see is that the CGDisplayUnitNumber() for the 'ghost' display is always 0, while the logical unit number for the real screen is '1'. Is it safe to ignore screens with 0? I'm trying to find a reliable way to prevent heavy processing for 'false' screens. I'm afraid because this ghost screen has parameters so different to the actual screen, it's otherwise not possible to ignore it as it looks like a new screen.
