Rosetta 2 - Build 1.0.0.0.1.1744447383
Goal: Manually install an explicit version of Rosetta2 Background: Me and some customers have an old app (intel) which perfectly worked with Rosetta2. Sharing a JPEG via Action or Share Extension fails in Photos on macOS
We have a Share Extension that fails in Photos on macOS when trying to share a JPEG image for the following reason: From the NSItemProvider we get from the NSExtensionItem.attachments, we try to load the image using loadFileRepresentation(forTypeIdentifier: “public.image”, completionHandler: …). This fails for .jpeg images in the library. There seems to be a mismatch in expected and actual file extension internally. Here is the log: Error copying file type public.image. Error: Error Domain=NSItemProviderErrorDomain Code=-1000 "Cannot load representation of type public.jpeg" UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Cannot load representation of type public.jpeg, NSUnderlyingError=0x1527c1a80 {Error Domain=NSItemProviderErrorDomain Code=-1 "Cannot copy file at URL file:///Users/frank/Library/Containers/com.apple.Photos/Data/tmp/TemporaryItems/ShareKit-Exports/7CCFA760-AAC9-42B0-812D-68F051ED1543/F912E593-2BE5-4E70-86AB-7657A40657E5/IMG_3517.jpg." UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Cannot copy file at URL file:///Users/frank/Library/Containers/com.apple.Photos/Data/tmp/TemporaryItems/ShareKit-Exports/7CCFA760-AAC9-42B0-812D-68F051ED1543/F912E593-2BE5-4E70-86AB-7657A40657E5/IMG_3517.jpg., NSUnderlyingError=0x152789670 {Error Domain=NSItemProviderErrorDomain Code=-1 "Cannot create a temporary file. Error: Undefined error: 0" UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Cannot create a temporary file. Error: Undefined error: 0}}}}}``` In the specified folder, there is an image, however, it’s named IMG_3517.jpeg, not IMG_3517.jpg. This seems to be a bug in Photo’s item provider implementation. If we use loadObject(ofClass: URL.self, completionHandler: …) instead, we get the correct .jpeg URL in the completion handler.

How does an app like Jomo access Screen Time data on parent devices (not just child devices)?
Hi all, I'm working on a Screen Time-based app with gamification features for families, where both children and parents interact and compare usage stats. The endgoal of the app is to motivate for less screentime or more use of productive apps. I'm testing Apple's Family Controls API, which works great for getting data from child devices. However, this API doesn't support fetching screen time data on the parent device itself. Apps like Jomo appear to provide insights and even their own "calculations" on screen time usage directly on the parent device. I have tested a few apps that showed both the usage data for my children and myself and did some nice things with it like creating stats. I've gone through the documentation and APIs extensively, but I can’t figure out how they’re doing this. As far as I can tell the only solution would be a custom VPN or MDM. However as far as I can tell Jomo for example does not use either of those. My questions are: Am I missing some API Are apps like Jomo using private APIs which they have been granted access to from Apple? Is there any way to access similar data on a parent device without using MDM or VPN? Any guidance or clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Built-in Spin Control?
On and off I've been trying to figure out how to do hang detection in-application (at least from the user's point of view). Qualitatively what I'd like to do is have a process which runs sample(1) on the application after it's been unresponsive for more than a second or so. Basically, an in-app replacement for Spin Control. The problem I've been stuck on is: how do I tell? There used to be Core Graphics SPI (CGSRegisterNotifyProc with a value of kCGSEventNotificationAppIsUnresponsive) for doing this, but it doesn't work anymore (either due to sandboxing or system-wide security changes, I can't tell which but it doesn't matter). One thought I had was to have an XPC service which would expect to receive a checkin once per second from the host (via a timer set up by the host). If it didn't, it would start sample(1). This seems pretty heavyweight to me, since it means that once per second, I'm going to be consuming cycles to check in with the service. But I haven't been able to come up with a scheme that doesn't include some kind of check-in by the target process. Are there any APIs or strategies that I could use to accomplish this? Or is there some entitlement which would allow the application to request "application became unresponsive"/"application became responsive" notifications from the window server?

Can ManagedSettingsStore() block the app that configures it — and how to prevent it?
Hi everyone, I’m working with the ManagedSettingsStore API for managing Screen Time restrictions and I have a specific question: Is it possible for an app to block itself using ManagedSettingsStore() — for example, by applying an application category restriction or setting a specific block on its own bundle ID? If so, what strategies or best practices are recommended to avoid accidentally blocking the app itself while applying restrictions to other apps or categories? I haven’t found any official documentation confirming whether the system prevents self-blocking automatically or if this is something developers need to manage explicitly. Thanks for any clarification or advice you can provide!

[macOS] CoreSpotlight importer using CSImportExtension failing to index
I've been trying to add a CoreSpotlight indexer to my macOS application. The new template for the indexer uses the new appex CSImportExtension style importer. I've been following this -> https://developer.apple.com/documentation/corespotlight/csimportextension I changed the CSSupportedContentTypes in the Info.plist file to the correct file type uti. I added a dummy value into the attributes (see code below) - just setting contentDescription to 'noodle' (easy to search for) class ImportExtension: CSImportExtension {   override func update(_ attributes: CSSearchableItemAttributeSet, forFileAt: URL) throws {     // Add a dummy value, and see whether spotlight finds it     attributes.contentDescription = "noodle" } } I have a number of files on disk that match the uti (and can be found when I search by the file name) Yet, when I build and run my app, the a spotlight search for 'noodle' finds no results. Can anyone give me any advice? I cannot find any indication that the ImportExtension is called (although when I put a log message at the start of the update() call there's no message in the console which seems to suggest it's not being called). Is there any way of debugging this? Cheers and thanks -- Darren.

How to change default settings(a4,color etc.) on print system dialog in macOS programatically
Hello, I added a printer using lpadmin command. ` lpadmin "-p", "print_queue", "-D", "print queue", "-P", "temp/data/driver.ppd", "-E", "-o", "printer-error-policy=abort-job", "-o", "printer-is-shared=false", "-o", "cupsIPPSupplies=false", "-o", "cupsSNMPSupplies=false", "-o", "ColorModel=Color", "-o", "Media=A3", "-o", "OutputPaperSize=A3" then I set default printing options for your user account via lpoptions `lpoptions "-p", "print_queue", "-o", "Duplex=DuplexNoTumble", "-o", "Media=A3" But still default values in system print dialog are set to a4 and grayscale. Why? Is there any way how to change it to correspond with values set by these commands? Also tried to change driver files defaults, but again, nothing.

BadDeviceToken Error in Live Activities
Hello everyone, I’m currently receiving feedback from clients in a production environment who are encountering a BadDeviceToken error with Live Activities, which is preventing their states from updating. However, for other clients, the token is working fine and everything functions as expected. I’m collaborating with the back-end developers to gather more information about this issue, but the only log message we’re seeing is: Failed to send a push, APNS reported an error: BadDeviceToken I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could provide some insight or information on how to resolve this issue.

Apps remain blocked after being unselected
Hi everyone, We're using the react-native-device-activity package to implement app blocking via Apple's Screen Time API. The blocking functionality works well: when the user selects apps and taps "Done," those apps get blocked as expected. However, we're facing an issue with unblocking apps that the user later unselects. Even after the user unchecks some apps and taps "Done" again, those previously selected (now unselected) apps remain blocked and still show the shield.

App Clip Unavailable
I have published the app on the App Store along with its corresponding app clip, my app clip is configured with some advanced experiences for each one of my clients, but whenever some users try to scan an NFC or QR Code they see the card rendering correctly with their configured banner image, but with the message "App Clip Unavailable". The weird thing is that both iMessage and the website to which the associated domain is set and the apple-app-site-association is stored, renders the banner or card correctly, and when the users tap the banner or card they open the advanced app clip experience correctly without any issue. I have attempted to troubleshoot the issue by checking the following: if the app clip is below 15MB if we are using a second level domain in my associated domain both for my app clip and app (excluding the www subdomain). checking if the AASA is correctly stored inside .well-known directory checking the configuration for the advanced experience I opened a case: 102233443873, and added a bunch of videos and screenshot showcasing the issue, but I have not yet received a reply

Extend Family Control permission to app's extensions
I have tried multiple time through multiple channels and you have yet to respond to my request. I am developing an App on xcode APP Bundle ID: garymdmd.MediaPace Apple ID: 6740823496 Apple has granted me distribution use of the Family Control/Screentime module for my main app. According to your engineer's post here: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/764919 That permission should be extended to your extensions that are part of the app. When you try to setup the extension identifiers they do not show the "added capabilities" column that sow sup when getting permission for the main app so you are not able to endow the extension with these permissions which seem to be needed to work with the app. I am trying to add these bundle identifier extensions: garymdmd.MediaPace.ScreenTimeMonitorDuo garymdmd.MediaPace.DeviceActivityReport Can you please tell me how to get this to work or to add permissions to these extensions. I have sent in the request form multiple times (here - https://developer.apple.com/contact/request/family-controls-distribution) and Apple simply writes back that I have permission after a few weeks but nothing changes for the extension capabilities.

How to find renamed app using old name in Spotlight?
We are planning on renaming our app. The new name is not like the current name. It will be renamed in the App Store as well as the App display name. Yet, we still want new and existing users to be able to find the app by using the old name in search/spotlight under iOS. A great example of this is entering Twitter to find the X app and it shows up in the App section in the Spotlight search. Are there any guidelines, settings, or tricks for doing this? Some have suggested adding a Spotlight search term but that will not have it show up in the App section I fear.

The enterprise app crashes.
I created a new project, packaged it with my own enterprise certificate, installed and used it. There were no problems on most devices. However, on some devices with system versions of 18.3 and 18.4, the app crashes when opened after trusting the certificate. It seems that there is something wrong with the certificate, but I have confirmed that the certificate is fine. May I ask what the cause of this issue is?

Silly question: getting a user's email address(es)
For login purposes, we may want to try automatically checking to see if an email address is set up in certain databases. It looks like the preferred way to do this is via ABAddressBook.shared().me(), then get the right key via in the properties? This, however, is treated as accessing the whole address book and brings up a confirmation dialogue. However, as I thought about it, that might not be the real way we'd want -- we'd want to go through Active Directory, perhaps? Am I making any sense, or just being incoherent? 😄

Contacts: remove member from group not working on macOS
Hi, In my app, I have an option to remove a contact from a contact group (using the Contacts framework), and it's been working fine till recently users of the macOS version reported that it's not working. I have been using the CNSaveRequest removeMember(contact, from: group) API. The same API works fine on iOS. I'm not sure when it started but it seems to be affecting macOS14.6 as well as 15.1. I was able to reproduce it in a small test project as well, and have the same experience (the API works on iOS but not on macOS), so it definitely seems like a problem with the framework. Can someone confirm this, and/or suggest a workaround? Here's the code I run to test it out ...a simple SwiftUI view that has 4 buttons: Create contact and group Add contact to group Remove contact from group (optional) cleanup by deleting contact and group It's the 3rd step that seems to fail on macOS, but works fine on iOS. Here's the code to test it out: struct ContentView: View { let contactsModel = ContactsStoreModel() var body: some View { VStack (alignment: .center, spacing: 15){ Button ("1. Add Contact And Group") { print("add contact button pressed") contactsModel.addTestContact() if let _ = contactsModel.createdContact { print("created contact success") } } Button ("2. Add Contact To Group") { print("add to group button pressed") contactsModel.addContactToGroup() } Button ("3. Remove Contact From Group") { print("remove from group button pressed") contactsModel.removeContactFromGroup() } Button ("4. Is MetricKit automatically on all devices?
Hello Apple, I am trying to get information such as crash context whenever a user encounters a situation where the app is killed. I was wondering if the tool MetricKit is available to all users or is this a feature to those who has opted into it. I am aware that the whenever someone gets a new device or in settings, an option will appear that'll have users decide whether or not to have Apple receive data analytics during certain events on their device. Does this have any effect on whether some users may not have MetricKit? Overall, we are attempting to use MetricKit to better analyze performance of our app. It would be inefficient for us, if the population of users using MetricKit is only those who have opted into it. Thanks, dmaliro

Delete Contact and Group") { print("remove from group button pressed") contactsModel.deleteContactAndGroup() } } .padding() } } #Preview { ContentView() } @available(iOS 13.0, *) @objc final class ContactsStoreModel: NSObject, ObservableObject { let contactStore = CNContactStore() var createdContact : CNContact? var createdGroup : CNGroup? public func addTestContact() { let storeContainer = contactStore.defaultContainerIdentifier() let contact = CNMutableContact() contact.givenName = "Testing" contact.familyName = "User" contact.phoneNumbers = [CNLabeledValue(label: "Cell", value: CNPhoneNumber(stringValue: "1234567890"))] let group = CNMutableGroup() group.name = "Testing Group" print("create contact id = \(contact.identifier)") print("create group id = \(group.identifier)") do { let saveRequest = CNSaveRequest() saveRequest.transactionAuthor = "TestApp" saveRequest.add(contact, toContainerWithIdentifier: storeContainer) saveRequest.add(group, toContainerWithIdentifier: storeContainer) try contactStore.execute(saveRequest) createdContact = contact createdGroup = group } catch { print("error in store execute = \(error)") } } public func addContactToGroup() { if let contact = createdContact, let group = createdGroup { do { let saveRequest = CNSaveRequest() saveRequest.transactionAuthor = "TestApp" saveRequest.addMember(contact, to: group) try contactStore.execute(saveRequest) } catch { print("error in store execute = \(error)") } } } public func removeContactFromGroup() { if let contact = createdContact, let group = createdGroup { do { let saveRequest = CNSaveRequest() saveRequest.transactionAuthor = "TestApp" saveRequest.removeMember(contact, from: group) try contactStore.execute(saveRequest) } catch { print("error in store execute = \(error)") } } } public func addGroupAndContact() { let storeContainer = contactStore.defaultContainerIdentifier() let group = CNMutableGroup() group.name = "Test Group" print("create group id = \(group.identifier)") if let contact = createdContact { do { let saveRequest = CNSaveRequest() saveRequest.transactionAuthor = "TestApp" saveRequest.add(group, toContainerWithIdentifier: storeContainer) saveRequest.addMember(contact, to: group) try contactStore.execute(saveRequest) createdGroup = group } catch { print("error in store execute = \(error)") } } } public func deleteContactAndGroup() { if let contact = createdContact, let group = createdGroup { do { let mutableGroup = group.mutableCopy() as!
