I'm distributing a macOS .pkg installer signed with Developer ID Installer and notarized via notarytool. On macOS 26.3 (Tahoe, Build 25D125), the package is rejected by Gatekeeper when downloaded from the internet. com.apple.developer.family-controls Distribution Timeline?
Hi All, Like many others I'm a little confused with gaining access to the family controls capability. Our app is ready to push to testflight, and we sent the request to apple last week. However only learning today that we need to request for the shield extension as well. I wanted to ask what the expected timeline is for being approved? I've seen posts here saying less than a week, and some people having to wait longer than 6 weeks. Any advise or guidance on getting approved smoothly & swiftly would be highly appreciated

Cannot launch an app sucessfully stapled and validated
Hey, when I try to launch my app it prompts me with a "Apple could not verify" popup. The thing is the app has been signed and stapled. xcrun stapler validate .app for my app returns "The validate action worked!" If I also run syspolicy_check distribution .app it returns: "App passed all pre-distribution checks and is ready for distribution" Any idea?

Family Controls (Distribution) approved via email but portal still shows "Submitted" - blocking App Store submission
Hi, I submitted a Family Controls (Distribution) entitlement request for my app Faith Lock (com.faithlock.ios) - a prayer-focused iOS app that uses the Screen Time API to help users block distracting apps. I received an approval email, but the portal still shows the request as "Submitted" and the Distribution option does not appear under Additional Capabilities for my identifier. This is blocking me from submitting to App Store Connect. Details: Bundle ID: com.faithlock.ios Team ID: F86P575UNP Request IDs: 3PWTDR8KL3 / 885ZK276KK Status in portal: Submitted (unchanged since approval email) Has anyone experienced this? Is there a way to get the portal manually updated to reflect the approval? Any help or escalation from a DTS engineer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Does signed macho binary with teamID is signed by Apple root certificate
In my application I validate the authenticity of my own binaries by checking that the Team Identifier in the code signature matches a predefined value. Currently I do not perform a full signature validation that verifies the certificate chain up to Apple’s root CA. When attempting to do this using SecStaticCodeCheckValidityWithErrors (or validateWithRequirement), the operation sometimes takes several minutes. During that time the calling thread appears blocked, and the system logs show: trustd: [com.apple.securityd:SecError] Malformed anchor records, not an array Because of this delay, I decided to rely only on the Team Identifier. My question is: Can it be assumed that if a Mach-O binary contains a Team Identifier in its code signature, then it must have been signed with a valid Apple Developer certificate? Or are there cases where a binary could contain a Team ID but still not be signed by Apple’s trust chain? Thanks for the help !

Unable to provision target
I have added an in-app purchase function into my app, and have enabled in-app purchase profile in developer portal(it's on by default and is marked gray in developer portal, I don't know if that's how it supposed to look like). I have issued the agreements and tried signing the app both manually and automatically, but neither of that worked. App can be built successfully in simulator but does not show the simulation window, but cannot build on real device or archive. Errors: Missing com.apple.developer.in-app-purchase, com.apple.developer.in-app-purchase.non-consumable, and com.apple.developer.in-app-purchase.subscription entitlements. Automatic signing failed Xcode failed to provision this target.

Investigating Third-Party IDE Code-Signing Problems
I regularly see questions from folks who’ve run into code-signing problems with their third-party IDE. There’s a limit to how much I can help you with such problems. This post explains a simple test you can run to determine what side of that limit you’re on. If you have any questions or comments, please put them in a new thread here on DevForums. Share and Enjoy — Quinn “The Eskimo!” @ Developer Technical Support @ Apple let myEmail = "eskimo" + "1" + "@" + "apple.com" Investigating Third-Party IDE Code-Signing Problems DTS doesn’t support third-party tools. If you’re using third-party tooling and encounter a code-signing problem, run this test to determine whether you should seek help from Apple or from your tool’s vendor. IMPORTANT Some third-party tools create Xcode projects that you then build and run in Xcode. While that approach is understandable, it’s not something that DTS supports. So, the steps below make sense even if you’re already using Xcode. To check that code-signing is working in general: Launch Xcode. In Xcode > Settings > Accounts, make sure you’re signed in with your developer account. Create a new project from the app project template for your target platform. For example, if you’re targeting iOS, use the iOS > App project template. When creating the project: Select the appropriate team in the Team popup. Choose a bundle ID that’s not the same as your main app’s bundle ID. Choose whatever language and interface you want. Your language and interface choices are irrelevant to code signing. Choose None for your testing system and storage model. This simplifies your project setup. In the Signing & Capabilities editor, make sure that: "Automatically manage signing” is checked. The Team popup and Bundle Identifier fields match the value you chose in the previous step. Select a simulator as the run destination. Choose Product > Build. This should always work because the simulator doesn’t use code signing [1]. However, doing this step is important because it confirms that your project is working general. Select your target device as the run destination. Choose Product > Build. Then Product > Run. If you continue to have problems, that’s something that Apple folks can help you with. If this works, there’s a second diagnostic test: Repeat steps 1 through 10 above, except this time, in step 4, choose a bundle ID that is the same as your main app’s bundle ID. If this works then your issue is not on the Apple side of the fence, and you should escalate it via the support channel for the third-party tools you’re using. On the other hand, if this fails, that’s something we can help you with. I recommend that you first try to fix the issue yourself. For links to relevant resources, see Code Signing Resources. You should also search the forums, because we’ve helped a lot of folks with a lot of code-signing issues over the years. Notarization submissions stuck "In Progress" for hours — requesting investigation
Hi, I have two notarization submissions that have been stuck in "In Progress" status for several hours with no resolution. Submission IDs: 2158329b-8beb-400b-aa80-f8c2a5f30106 (submitted ~9 hours ago) 73174908-3ed9-4a85-afe0-a3c3b0722a61 (submitted ~3 hours ago) Both submissions show "In Progress" indefinitely and no log is available for either. The notarytool --wait --timeout 30m timed out on the second submission with exit code 124. The app is signed with a valid Developer ID Application certificate, all binaries including frameworks and dylibs are individually signed with --options runtime and --timestamp. A previous submission returned valid on disk / satisfies its Designated Requirement via spctl --assess. Could you please investigate whether these submissions are stuck on your end, and advise on next steps? Thank you.

MacOS installer appears rejected after successful notarization
Hi! I am encountering an issue with the notarization process. Interestingly enough, trying this installer on a different MacOS machine works as expected(no quarantine) and spctl shows it as notarized(Accepted). Any idea what's wrong with my machine?

App store capability request
I requested the Family Controls (distribution) capability but am not sure if I did it correct. I applied, answered the questions why i needed it and submitted. Its been about 2 weeks since applying. In the app configurations, it on apple dev site, it shows in the request history that I submitted it on March 17, but I can click the request (+) button and request it again. Just want to make sure I didn't mess anything up--it seems like they would prevent me from sendin another request if I had already requested it. It hasn't taken them this long to get back to me in the past which is why I am confused. If anyone knows how to speed up the process, please let me know! Thanks.

No certificate for team '' matching 'Developer ID Application' found
When completing signing on Xcode, it shows the following error message "No certificate for team '' matching 'Developer ID Application' found" I have already followed the steps to generate a certificate from keychain and made a new certificate on developer portal, along with its associated provisioning profile. Viewing "Manage Certificate" window shows the newly created certificate, but Xcode seems to not be able to locate it.

Testing a Notarised Product
To ship a product outside of the Mac App Store, you must notarise it. The notary service issues a notarised ticket, and the ultimate consumer of that ticket is Gatekeeper. However, Gatekeeper does not just check the ticket; it also applies a variety of other checks, and it’s possible for those checks to fail even if your notarised ticket is just fine. To avoid such problems showing up in the field, test your product’s compatibility with Gatekeeper before shipping it. To do this: Set up a fresh machine, one that’s never seen your product before. If your product supports macOS 10.15.x, x < 4, the best OS version to test with is 10.15.3 [1]. Download your product in a way that quarantines it (for example, using Safari). Disconnect the machine from the network. It might make sense to skip this step. See the discussion below. Install and use your product as your users would. If the product is signed, notarised, and stapled correctly, everything should work. If not, you’ll need to investigate what’s making Gatekeeper unhappy, fix that, and then retest. For detailed advice on that topic, see Resolving Trusted Execution Problems. Run this test on a fresh machine each time. This is necessary because Gatekeeper caches information about your product and it’s not easy to reset that cache. Your best option is to do this testing on a virtual machine (VM). Take a snapshot of the VM before the first test, and then restore to that snapshot when you want to retest. Also, by using a VM you can disable networking in step 3 without disrupting other work on your machine. The reason why you should disable networking in step 3 is to test that you’ve correctly stapled the notarised ticket on to your product. If, for some reason, you’re unable to do that stapling, it’s fine to skip step 3. However, be aware that this may cause problems for a user if they try to deploy your product to a Mac that does not have access to the wider Internet. For more background on this, see The Pros and Cons of Stapling. [1] macOS 10.15.4 fixes a bug that made Gatekeeper unnecessarily strict (r. 57278824), so by testing on 10.15.3 you’re exercising the worst case. The process described above is by far the best way to test your Gatekeeper compatibility because it accurately tests how your users run your product. However, you can also run a quick, albeit less accurate test, using various command-line tools. The exact process depends on the type of product you’re trying to check: App — Run syspolicy_check like this: % syspolicy_check distribution WaffleVarnish.app This tool was introduced in macOS 14. On older systems, use the older spctl tool. Run it like this: % spctl -a -t exec -vvv WaffleVarnish.app Be aware, however, that this check is much less accurate. Disk image — Run spctl like this: % spctl -a -t open -vvv --context context:primary-signature WaffleVarnish.dmg Installer package — Run spctl like this: % spctl -a -t install -vvv WaffleVarnish.pkg Other code — Run codesign like this: % codesign -vvvv -R="notarized" --check-notarization WaffleVarnish.bundle This command requires macOS 10.15 or later. Team not configured for notarization — no response from Developer Programs Support for 9+ days
I'm unable to notarize my macOS app — notarytool returns statusCode 7000 ("Team is not yet configured for notarization"). My Developer ID certificate is valid (expires 2031), code signing works fine. Timeline: March 4 — opened case 102832266798 via Developer Programs Support March 6 — Apple replied, but the email never arrived (not in spam either) March 9 — sent follow-up requesting the response be resent — no reply March 13 — opened new case 102840272497 via Program Enrollment form — waiting It's been 9 days with no resolution. DTS confirmed this is not a technical issue and referred me to Developer Programs Support. Team ID: 9NL8W3646T Bundle ID: com.traart.app How can I escalate this? Has anyone experienced a similar situation with a new account?

Cannot launch an app sucessfully stapled and validated
Hey, when I try to launch my app it prompts me with a "Apple could not verify" popup. The thing is the app has been signed and stapled. xcrun stapler validate .app for my app returns "The validate action worked!" If I also run syspolicy_check distribution .app it returns: "App passed all pre-distribution checks and is ready for distribution" Any idea?

Family Controls (Distribution) approved via email but portal still shows "Submitted" - blocking App Store submission
Hi, I submitted a Family Controls (Distribution) entitlement request for my app Faith Lock (com.faithlock.ios) - a prayer-focused iOS app that uses the Screen Time API to help users block distracting apps. I received an approval email, but the portal still shows the request as "Submitted" and the Distribution option does not appear under Additional Capabilities for my identifier. This is blocking me from submitting to App Store Connect. Details: Bundle ID: com.faithlock.ios Team ID: F86P575UNP Request IDs: 3PWTDR8KL3 / 885ZK276KK Status in portal: Submitted (unchanged since approval email) Has anyone experienced this? Does signed macho binary with teamID is signed by Apple root certificate
In my application I validate the authenticity of my own binaries by checking that the Team Identifier in the code signature matches a predefined value. Currently I do not perform a full signature validation that verifies the certificate chain up to Apple’s root CA. When attempting to do this using SecStaticCodeCheckValidityWithErrors (or validateWithRequirement), the operation sometimes takes several minutes. During that time the calling thread appears blocked, and the system logs show: trustd: [com.apple.securityd:SecError] Malformed anchor records, not an array Because of this delay, I decided to rely only on the Team Identifier. My question is: Can it be assumed that if a Mach-O binary contains a Team Identifier in its code signature, then it must have been signed with a valid Apple Developer certificate? Or are there cases where a binary could contain a Team ID but still not be signed by Apple’s trust chain? Thanks for the help !

Unable to provision target
I have added an in-app purchase function into my app, and have enabled in-app purchase profile in developer portal(it's on by default and is marked gray in developer portal, I don't know if that's how it supposed to look like). I have issued the agreements and tried signing the app both manually and automatically, but neither of that worked. App can be built successfully in simulator but does not show the simulation window, but cannot build on real device or archive. Errors: Missing com.apple.developer.in-app-purchase, com.apple.developer.in-app-purchase.non-consumable, and com.apple.developer.in-app-purchase.subscription entitlements. Automatic signing failed Xcode failed to provision this target.

Investigating Third-Party IDE Code-Signing Problems
I regularly see questions from folks who’ve run into code-signing problems with their third-party IDE. There’s a limit to how much I can help you with such problems. This post explains a simple test you can run to determine what side of that limit you’re on. If you have any questions or comments, please put them in a new thread here on DevForums. If you’re using third-party tooling and encounter a code-signing problem, run this test to determine whether you should seek help from Apple or from your tool’s vendor. IMPORTANT Some third-party tools create Xcode projects that you then build and run in Xcode. While that approach is understandable, it’s not something that DTS supports. So, the steps below make sense even if you’re already using Xcode. To check that code-signing is working in general: Launch Xcode. In Xcode > Settings > Accounts, make sure you’re signed in with your developer account. Create a new project from the app project template for your target platform. For example, if you’re targeting iOS, use the iOS > App project template. When creating the project: Select the appropriate team in the Team popup. Choose a bundle ID that’s not the same as your main app’s bundle ID. Choose whatever language and interface you want. Your language and interface choices are irrelevant to code signing. Choose None for your testing system and storage model. This simplifies your project setup. In the Signing & Capabilities editor, make sure that: "Automatically manage signing” is checked. The Team popup and Bundle Identifier fields match the value you chose in the previous step. Select a simulator as the run destination. Choose Product > Build. This should always work because the simulator doesn’t use code signing [1]. However, doing this step is important because it confirms that your project is working general. Select your target device as the run destination. Choose Product > Build. Then Product > Run. If you continue to have problems, that’s something that Apple folks can help you with. If this works, there’s a second diagnostic test: Repeat steps 1 through 10 above, except this time, in step 4, choose a bundle ID that is the same as your main app’s bundle ID. If this works then your issue is not on the Apple side of the fence, and you should escalate it via the support channel for the third-party tools you’re using. On the other hand, if this fails, that’s something we can help you with. I recommend that you first try to fix the issue yourself. For links to relevant resources, see Code Signing Resources. You should also search the forums, because we’ve helped a lot of folks with a lot of code-signing issues over the years. If you’re unable to resolve the issue yourself, feel free to start a thread here in the forums. Notarization submissions stuck "In Progress" for hours — requesting investigation
Hi, I have two notarization submissions that have been stuck in "In Progress" status for several hours with no resolution. Submission IDs: 2158329b-8beb-400b-aa80-f8c2a5f30106 (submitted ~9 hours ago) 73174908-3ed9-4a85-afe0-a3c3b0722a61 (submitted ~3 hours ago) Both submissions show "In Progress" indefinitely and no log is available for either. The notarytool --wait --timeout 30m timed out on the second submission with exit code 124. The app is signed with a valid Developer ID Application certificate, all binaries including frameworks and dylibs are individually signed with --options runtime and --timestamp. A previous submission returned valid on disk / satisfies its Designated Requirement via spctl --assess. Could you please investigate whether these submissions are stuck on your end, and advise on next steps? Thank you.

MacOS installer appears rejected after successful notarization
Hi! I am encountering an issue with the notarization process. Interestingly enough, trying this installer on a different MacOS machine works as expected(no quarantine) and spctl shows it as notarized(Accepted). Any idea what's wrong with my machine?

App store capability request
I requested the Family Controls (distribution) capability but am not sure if I did it correct. I applied, answered the questions why i needed it and submitted. Its been about 2 weeks since applying. In the app configurations, it on apple dev site, it shows in the request history that I submitted it on March 17, but I can click the request (+) button and request it again. Just want to make sure I didn't mess anything up--it seems like they would prevent me from sendin another request if I had already requested it. It hasn't taken them this long to get back to me in the past which is why I am confused. If anyone knows how to speed up the process, please let me know! Thanks.

No certificate for team '' matching 'Developer ID Application' found
When completing signing on Xcode, it shows the following error message "No certificate for team '' matching 'Developer ID Application' found" I have already followed the steps to generate a certificate from keychain and made a new certificate on developer portal, along with its associated provisioning profile. Viewing "Manage Certificate" window shows the newly created certificate, but Xcode seems to not be able to locate it.

Testing a Notarised Product
To ship a product outside of the Mac App Store, you must notarise it. The notary service issues a notarised ticket, and the ultimate consumer of that ticket is Gatekeeper. However, Gatekeeper does not just check the ticket; it also applies a variety of other checks, and it’s possible for those checks to fail even if your notarised ticket is just fine. To avoid such problems showing up in the field, test your product’s compatibility with Gatekeeper before shipping it. To do this: Set up a fresh machine, one that’s never seen your product before. If your product supports macOS 10.15.x, x < 4, the best OS version to test with is 10.15.3 [1]. Download your product in a way that quarantines it (for example, using Safari). Disconnect the machine from the network. It might make sense to skip this step. See the discussion below. Install and use your product as your users would. If the product is signed, notarised, and stapled correctly, everything should work. If not, you’ll need to investigate what’s making Gatekeeper unhappy, fix that, and then retest. For detailed advice on that topic, see Resolving Trusted Execution Problems. Run this test on a fresh machine each time. This is necessary because Gatekeeper caches information about your product and it’s not easy to reset that cache. Your best option is to do this testing on a virtual machine (VM). Take a snapshot of the VM before the first test, and then restore to that snapshot when you want to retest. Also, by using a VM you can disable networking in step 3 without disrupting other work on your machine. The reason why you should disable networking in step 3 is to test that you’ve correctly stapled the notarised ticket on to your product. If, for some reason, you’re unable to do that stapling, it’s fine to skip step 3. However, be aware that this may cause problems for a user if they try to deploy your product to a Mac that does not have access to the wider Internet. For more background on this, see The Pros and Cons of Stapling. [1] macOS 10.15.4 fixes a bug that made Gatekeeper unnecessarily strict (r. 57278824), so by testing on 10.15.3 you’re exercising the worst case. The process described above is by far the best way to test your Gatekeeper compatibility because it accurately tests how your users run your product. However, you can also run a quick, albeit less accurate test, using various command-line tools. The exact process depends on the type of product you’re trying to check: App — Run syspolicy_check like this: % syspolicy_check distribution WaffleVarnish.app This tool was introduced in macOS 14. On older systems, use the older spctl tool. Run it like this: % spctl -a -t exec -vvv WaffleVarnish.app Be aware, however, that this check is much less accurate. Disk image — Run spctl like this: % spctl -a -t open -vvv --context context:primary-signature WaffleVarnish.dmg Installer package — Run spctl like this: % spctl -a -t install -vvv WaffleVarnish.pkg Other code — Run codesign like this: % codesign -vvvv -R="notarized" --check-notarization WaffleVarnish.bundle This command requires macOS 10.15 or later. Team not configured for notarization — no response from Developer Programs Support for 9+ days
I'm unable to notarize my macOS app — notarytool returns statusCode 7000 ("Team is not yet configured for notarization"). My Developer ID certificate is valid (expires 2031), code signing works fine. Timeline: March 4 — opened case 102832266798 via Developer Programs Support March 6 — Apple replied, but the email never arrived (not in spam either) March 9 — sent follow-up requesting the response be resent — no reply March 13 — opened new case 102840272497 via Program Enrollment form — waiting It's been 9 days with no resolution. DTS confirmed this is not a technical issue and referred me to Developer Programs Support. Team ID: 9NL8W3646T Bundle ID: com.traart.app How can I escalate this? Has anyone experienced a similar situation with a new account?

New app notarization stuck for more than 24 hours
I'm trying to notarize an application for the first time & it's stuck for more than 24 hours now. I ended up submitting the same app more than 5 times, but all are stuck in waiting state. There is no visibility into what's happening & whenever i check the status it just shows as "In Progress". How can i expedite this process ?
