App Notarization Stuck in "In Process" State – How Long Should It Take?
Hello, I’m currently in the process of app notarization, but my status is stuck in the "In Process" state, and I’m unsure how long this should take. I’d appreciate any advice or insights. Issue Description After submitting my app for notarization, the status has been stuck in "In Process" for an extended period. There seems to be no progress, and it’s taking longer than I expected for the process to complete. The status hasn’t changed, and it’s been 5 days since I submitted the app. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? How long does the notarization process usually take? Any advice on how to resolve this or if there’s something I might be missing? Thanks in advance for your help!

Notarization submissions stuck "In Progress" — native macOS app with Sparkle.framework (12+ attempts)
I'm submitting a native macOS app (Swift/SwiftUI, arm64) that includes Sparkle.framework for auto-updates. All binaries are signed with a Developer ID Application certificate using --options runtime and --timestamp. I've submitted 12+ times over the past two days, both from local notarytool submit and from GitHub Actions CI. Every submission uploads successfully and returns a valid submission ID, but then stays at "In Progress" indefinitely — none have resolved to Accepted or Invalid. Two early submissions did eventually come back "Invalid" — Apple's rejection log showed the Sparkle nested binaries had ad-hoc signatures (they were being signed as individual Mach-O files instead of bundle directories). I fixed this with proper inside-out bundle signing. Since the fix, local codesign --verify --deep --strict passes cleanly, but all ~10 subsequent submissions remain stuck at "In Progress". 9UT54V24XG Would appreciate any guidance, or if someone from the notary team could check our queue. Happy to provide specific submission IDs.

First macOS Developer ID notarization stuck In Progress for multiple valid submissions
I am trying to notarize my first macOS app for direct distribution outside the Mac App Store using Developer ID Application signing. Team ID: 32S6XVAQPY Environment: macOS app distributed via Developer ID notarytool with a saved keychain profile archive exported locally, app zipped with ditto What I already verified locally: The archived app is signed with: Developer ID Application: (32S6XVAQPY) codesign --verify --deep --strict passes spctl shows: source=Unnotarized Developer ID syspolicy_check distribution only reports the expected missing notary ticket Hardened runtime is enabled The app bundle and nested Sparkle executables were re-signed and now have valid Developer ID signatures with secure timestamps Important note: I previously had a real signing issue in nested Sparkle binaries, and Apple rejected that submission quickly as Invalid. I fixed those signatures, and now new submissions no longer fail quickly but remain stuck In Progress. Submission IDs currently stuck: bea6c4b3-b107-4c81-8042-6c58b1cf5087 5489e29c-d583-4779-a125-ca0fbd9cad0b Earlier invalid submission with a concrete Sparkle signing error: 10df648b-eca8-428f-98d6-4cb4096153ad Apple reported invalid Developer ID / missing secure timestamp on: Sparkle.framework/Versions/B/Updater.app/Contents/MacOS/Updater Sparkle.framework/Versions/B/Autoupdate Sparkle.framework/Versions/B/XPCServices/Downloader.xpc/Contents/MacOS/Downloader Sparkle.framework/Versions/B/XPCServices/Installer.xpc/Contents/MacOS/Installer That Sparkle issue has since been fixed locally and re-verified. Question: Is there currently a notarization backlog or any known issue affecting first-time macOS notarizations or Developer ID submissions? At this point the remaining submissions appear valid locally but sit In Progress for a very long time.

Notarization submission stays In Progress for over 45 minutes
Hello, We are experiencing repeated notarization delays for our macOS app distributed outside the Mac App Store. Current submission ID: 45d7cac0-bd8a-4d48-b886-1cad7649adf4 Previous affected submission ID: ff61de1e-15f5-4bbe-8b34-a91a6f73b978 Issue description: xcrun notarytool submit succeeds and returns a submission ID. xcrun notarytool info keeps returning In Progress for a very long time. In the current case, the submission has remained In Progress for more than 45 minutes. This issue has happened repeatedly across multiple submissions. What we have already checked: We are not using a local proxy for notarization requests. We separated submit and polling in our build script to verify the exact stage. We retried multiple times. We reduced package contents to rule out newly introduced app content. Could someone from Apple please help check whether these submission IDs are stuck in the notarization pipeline, or advise what additional diagnostics we should provide? Thank you.

Notarization Requests In Progress
Hello, I am following up on several notarization requests in order to understand the process better. I submitted my first notary request yesterday and it took several hours to complete (where I submitted two other requests along the way thinking they may be stuck). They were all accepted after ~3 hours had passed since the first request was made. In that time I discovered a bug and had to rebuild/codesign, and submitted to notarize again. I've now had two requests with the new build (.zip file) "in progress" for ~18 hours. The bug fix I made between builds was innocuous and I'm wondering if my jobs are getting flagged due to recent account lockouts when I was first setting up my organizations' developer account. I've seen several replies here in the forum from DTS Engineers - hi Quinn :), so I'm aware of the possibility of 'rare' in-depth analysis, however I've experienced it in 100% of my requests. What is causing my requests to always require in-depth analysis and is there anything I can do to prevent it? My notarytool history is below for reference. Thank you in advance. createdDate: 2026-03-15T22:59:23.053Z id: 9c7ecc81-daf4-4cae-afe9-7f8186067f79 status: In Progress -------------------------------------------------- createdDate: 2026-03-15T21:10:04.576Z id: a1df8b50-c897-49f5-ad0d-f2264a03f145 status: In Progress -------------------------------------------------- createdDate: 2026-03-15T20:41:24.946Z id: 640e7cd6-035f-437b-9eab-9a3db415911a status: Accepted -------------------------------------------------- createdDate: 2026-03-15T18:40:26.944Z id: 00b9e907-04eb-4561-8353-dae7520202e0 status: Accepted -------------------------------------------------- createdDate: 2026-03-15T17:16:48.426Z id: 3163ba2b-e3c8-4216-ae8a-bac351b82f8a status: Accepted

All notarization submissions stuck "In Progress"
From what I can tell, it seems that this is something standard that we have to deal with; however, what is annoying and frustrating is I paid good money to have this service work. My application is for important internal use at our company, and this is causing major issues and starting to make me look pretty bad, frankly. On top of that, there is no feedback at all, no reason given. Notarizing darwin binaries... Conducting pre-submission checks for aria.zip and initiating connection to the Apple notary service... Code Signing "Invalid", No Reason Given
Hello, At work, we want to release a new version of our cross-platform desktop application this week. Unfortunately, I've had issues getting the dmg signed by the Apple notary service, which will delay the release until it's successful. However, I remade and successfully signed the previously released version (also dmg) with the same credentials, so I know it's not a problem with the file format or my account. I have tried the following to no avail: Lots of Googling Running xcrun notarytool submit with the -v option (verbose) to see more error messages Going to the URL given (appstoreconnect.apple.com/notary/v2/submissions/{submission_id}) and examining the file it downloaded (not much info, let alone helpful info) Contacting Apple developer support over the phone (they couldn't help with this particular issue, since it's "code-level support") The only big change we made this time was switching to Maven for our build tool and dependency management (we previously used Ant with manual dependency management). Does anyone here have any insight? Is there a list of known issues or dependencies that will cause a submission to be invalidated? Or, even better, any way to see why the submission is invalid? Thanks.

Agreed to legal agreements but still get "required agreement is missing or has expired"
We've been notarizing apps for a while now and have been through agreement changes before. But we still keep getting the following error when trying to notarize: Conducting pre-submission checks for myapp.dmg and initiating connection to the Apple notary service... Error: HTTP status code: 403. A required agreement is missing or has expired. This request requires an in-effect agreement that has not been signed or has expired. Ensure your team has signed the necessary legal agreements and that they are not expired. We've been through every document in our account to ensure it is signed. Is there any way to determine what document is not signed or what our issue is ? ...thanks

I got my app notarized but I am still getting the malware warning message
Hello, I recently had my Electron app notarized by Apple and then performed the following steps: Stapling the Notarization Ticket: xcrun stapler staple "appPath/Aiparalegal.app" Zipping the App for Distribution: ditto -c -k --keepParent "appPath/Aiparalegal.app" theAIParalegal.zip However, after unzipping and attempting to launch the app, macOS displays the following message: Apple could not verify "theAIParalegal" is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy. Yet, when I run validation using: xcrun stapler validate "theAIParalegal.app" I receive confirmation: The validate action worked! I then tried restarting my computer but the problem persist Could you help me understand why the notarization validation appears successful, yet macOS still displays this security warning? Any advice on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

store-credentials for notarizing failed – Apple ID locked
Thanks in advance for any hint to solve the following account problem: I tried to store credentials for notarizing. Presumably with the wrong combination of entries (similar to signing) – using the name of my university instead of my Apple Account. xcrun notarytool store-credentials "notarytool-password" --apple-id "Berliner Hochschule fuer Technik" --team-id "8YAW3HL2QP" --password "my Apple-Account-pw" .. retried assuming a syntax error (like missing "). Got the error message: This process stores your credentials securely in the Keychain. You reference these credentials later using a profile name. Validating your credentials... `Error: HTTP status code: 401. Your Apple ID has been locked. Visit iForgot to reset your account (https://iforgot.apple.com), then generate a new app-specific password. Ensure that all authentication arguments are correct.` Happy to see: Signing is not affected and I still an can log in to my account on developer.apple.com. So notarizing “only” seems to be affected. But how to reset the account to resolve the issue? The iforgot.apple.com link does not help - I provided my iPhone-number but did not receive further messages – neither on the iPhone nor on my “developer” macbook. Many thanks in advance All the best Florian

After years, notarytool now cannot find Keychain item
For years, I've been shipping my apps with a Perl script that now invokes notarytool to get the notarization, using this command /usr/bin/xcrun notarytool submit --apple-id jerry@sheepsystems.com --keychain-profile SSYShipProduct --team-id 4MAMECY9VS --output-format json /Users/jk/blah/blah/MyApp.zip --wait I used this script with this command several times during September 2024 to ship my apps, and it worked. But now, the above command fails with: Error: No Keychain password item found for profile: SSYShipProduct Run 'notarytool store-credentials' to create another credential profile. Of course, I am now running later versions of macOS beta and Xcode than I was in September. Does anyone know the problem? Screenshots from Terminal and Keychain Access are attached. Thank you.

Electron and Notarization randomly failing.
I’m having trouble with the notary step of our electron app. It sometimes says “In progress” for days on end, where other times, it only takes 15-20 minutes. For the last few weeks, I’ve noticed that it will take longer than the 20 minutes if our app was using a not latest version of the electron module -- https://www.npmjs.com/package/electron. I would then update our codebase to build using the latest version, and then try to sign and notarize the app again, and it would work till a new version was released. This was the first time that that process didn’t work. Everything is on latest, and we’re still getting stuck “in progress” for days on end. We have been signing and Notarizing this app for years now, so it's not the first time we're trying to do this process To make matters stranger, I have two branches of the same exact code base – same dependencies, same source code, same everything – there is no difference. One sign and notarize works 100% of the time where the other one hasn’t worked yet. Any ideas would be helpful. I'm not really sure where to begin to debug this. Thanks!

Submission ID received id: ec041209-5652-4772-8689-e9e654432da8 Successfully uploaded file id: ec041209-5652-4772-8689-e9e654432da8 path: /Users/shaneholloman/git/sources/uicnz/aria/dist/darwin-arm64/aria.zip Waiting for processing to complete.

Is there any way to determine what document is not signed or what our issue is ? ...thanks

Notarization Stuck “In Progress” for Over 32 Hours
Hi all, I've submitted multiple notarization requests for an Electron app using notarytool since (april 12) at 6:30.
Thank you!

notarization - not a valid developer certificate
I have a binary which I have signed with a valid developer certificate. Here is how I verify the signature was correctly applied: % codesign -dvv ./test_program.exe Executable=/Users/REDACTED/code_signing/test_program.exe Identifier=com.REDACTED.hello_world Format=Mach-O thin (arm64) CodeDirectory v=20500 size=489 flags=0x10000(runtime) hashes=9+2 location=embedded Signature size=9071 Authority=Mac Developer: REDACTED NAME (REDACTED_ID) Authority=Apple Worldwide Developer Relations Certification Authority Authority=Apple Root CA Timestamp=Apr 16, 2025 at 11:26:43 AM Info.plist=not bound TeamIdentifier=REDACTED Runtime Version=14.2.0 Sealed Resources=none Internal requirements count=1 size=192 ============================== Additionally, I have confirmed in keychain access that my certificate is valid. Here is the output from the GUI: Issued by: Apple Worldwide Developer Relations Certification Authority Expires: Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 3:50:14 PM Eastern Daylight Time This certificate is valid ============================== When I zip then send the executable for notarization, I get an "Invalid" response. store-credentials for notarizing failed – Apple ID locked

Thanks!
