Best current approach to detecting legacy paid app download (without relying on deprecated APIs)?
I’m trying to determine the most appropriate modern method for detecting whether a user originally downloaded a paid app (prior to transitioning the app to freemium/IAP-based access). Historically, this was done by checking for a valid App Store receipt and using SKReceiptRefreshRequest to ensure a fresh one was available. However, SKReceiptRefreshRequest and many related aspects of StoreKit receipt handling are now deprecated in iOS 17+. The current Apple documentation on receipt validation still refers to SKReceiptRefreshRequest, which makes things unclear. With so many deprecations and the push toward StoreKit 2, what’s the recommended path to: Check for a valid App Store receipt Confirm that the app was originally purchased (as a paid app, not via IAP) Persist this info to exempt the user from paywalling the app in the future I don’t need to validate purchases of IAPs — just to detect a legacy paid app download. Any guidance on best practice for this use case, preferably using non-deprecated APIs (StoreKit 2 or otherwise), would be appreciated.

Subscription upgrade during trial with a pending crossgrade: does remaining trial time get forfeited and is the prior plan refunded?
I’m implementing subscriptions and running tests, and I noticed a behavior I’d like to confirm. Plans in the app Basic — Monthly Basic — Annual Premium — Monthly Premium — Annual Test environment Sandbox (where ~1 day ≈ under 1 minute of real time) steps Start Basic (Monthly) using an introductory offer (free trial). Create a crossgrade to Basic (Annual) (scheduled/queued). 3.After receiving a RENEWAL App Store Server Notification indicating the plan will move from trial to paid Basic (Annual), but before the trial actually expires, upgrade the user to Premium (Monthly). Observed behavior (Sandbox) & questions Even though there is still up to ~1 day of trial remaining (≈ under 1 minute in Sandbox), upgrading to Premium (Monthly) immediately ends the trial and activates the paid Premium plan right away. Will this same behavior occur in Production? If yes, is this the expected/acceptable behavior when upgrading during an active trial after a pending crossgrade? Note: If we upgrade to Premium before the RENEWAL notification arrives, the remaining trial time is carried over in our tests. In this flow, we see a RENEWAL notification for Basic (Annual) (moving from trial → paid), but then the user immediately upgrades to Premium (Monthly) and the trial ends at that moment. In Production, would the charge for Basic (Annual) be refunded automatically since the user effectively switches to Premium immediately (and Basic Annual does not remain active)? In Sandbox there’s no real charge, but I want to ensure we won’t see a situation in Production where Basic (Annual) is billed and not refunded, even though the subscription effectively moved to Premium right away. Advanced Commerce API – 5000000 "Unknown error" when calling Migrate API
We've been approved for the Advanced Commerce API. After receiving the approval, we completed the initial setup requirements (submitted a generic product ID and shared our subscriptions page deep link). When testing the Migrate Subscription to Advanced Commerce endpoint in the sandbox, we receive a 5000000 error. What could be the reason/s for it? There is no information, and the API call we make includes all required parameters. Could it be related to the fact that our new generic product ID status is "Missing Metadata"? Is there a way to understand what the issue is on Apple's side?

Strange Pattern of Subscriptions + Refunds — Possible Abuse?
Hi everyone, I'm an indie developer and recently noticed some odd behavior in my app's subscription metrics. There’s been a sudden spike in annual subscriptions, which is very unusual for my app — historically, users rarely choose that option. What’s more concerning is that these subscriptions are almost immediately canceled and refunded. Upon checking analytics (RevenueCat + App Store Connect), I also noticed inconsistencies in user location data: users appear to be from one region (like Singapore), but deeper tracking shows actual usage from Vietnam, a market I’ve never targeted and where I do no advertising. This behavior seems coordinated and is affecting my app’s refund rate, which I worry could raise red flags on the App Store side. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Is there a recommended way to report suspicious subscription/refund activity to Apple or prevent potential abuse like this? Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Issues with Integration of Promotional Offers in React Native app
Hi All, We are trying to integrate Promotional Offer in our app, We have a React Native app and are using react-native-iap for handling our in app purchases, as per the documentation we are generating signature in our BE and passing the proper details to the function as well, but for subscription request which have offer applied we are getting the apple pop up properly as well with offer details but when trying to subscribe it gives us SKErrroDomain: 12, for subscription without applying offer the subscription goes through but when we apply the offer we get the above error. Our app is currently in Development Stages and has not been sent for review sam for our subscription plans as well. Please let me know what could be the probable cause for this and help us resolve the issue. We only receive webhook events where the status is "purchased". This becomes a critical problem for us because our backend must accurately track transaction states including failed and pending purchases, especially for wallet top-up use cases. Additionally, we tried mocking failed transactions (via Xcode local environment and turning off In-App Purchases from Developer Settings) to simulate a technical failure scenario. Even in these cases, no webhook notification was received when the purchase failed server-side. Is it expected behavior in Sandbox that only successful transactions ("purchased") trigger webhooks? Are failed or pending transactions suppressed in Sandbox intentionally? Will webhook behavior be different in Production (i.e., will we receive webhook notifications for failures there)? Is there any extra configuration or entitlement needed to fully test failure scenarios via webhooks in Sandbox?

Validating Mac App Store purchase with StoreKit
For years I've been using Receigen for receipt verification for the Mac App Store build of my application. However, with the deprecation of exit code 173, I am moving to StoreKit-based verification and have a couple of questions. Even when exporting a new release build of my app and running it (without any _MASReceipt). When using exit code 173, an .app without a _MASReceipt would prompt for app store login. Nothing of the sort happens now. Am I misunderstanding the documentation / doing something wrong / missing something obvious?

Not receiving App Store Server Notifications for failed transactions

Is there an API provided by the App Store Server API for canceling subscriptions?
Is there an App Store Server API available that allows cancellation of specific subscriptions by specifying transaction_id or similar identifiers? Background of these questions: We occasionally suspend user accounts due to violations of our service terms and conditions. In such cases, we would like to forcibly cancel their subscriptions if possible. Ask to buy pending state lacking transaction object
StoreKit ask to buy should have more data in pending state. When user try to purchase ask to buy, we should get at least transactionID, product itself, and time that user start the request. So we can keep track of the whole transaction flow jwsRepresentation should always available for every state, actually even failing state. And should attach state inside of it. Instead of only available after verified purchase. So we can use transactionID and everything relate to transaction for both waiting for purchase and clearing up the cancel or invalid purchase Currently we only have jwsRepresentation after complete purchase, which is very limited its usage

Show Price Increase Consent
I'm currently still on StoreKit 1, and am testing the paymentQueueShouldShowPriceConsent delegate function. In my local .storekit file, I have a renewable subscription set up with a promotional offer. My test flow is as follows: User subscribes to renewable subscription Let subscription auto-renew once or twice User subscribes to renewable subscription with promotional offer with significant price reduction Promotional offer lapses and price increases to normal Expect paymentQueueShouldShowPriceConsent delegate function to trigger However, #5 never does get invoked, despite re-trying the subscription and promotional offers in various configurations. Manually triggering the Request Price Increase Consent option in the Xcode StoreKit transactions list does invoke the delegate function, but letting the promotional offer lapse does not. My storefront is set to Korea, and my simulator region is set to Korea as well. According to the documentation here and here, consent is required for all price increases in Korea. Is there some way I could check if things are working as intended?

Problem with siubscriptions in Sandbox
The phone is set up with the developer program to cancel subscriptions from the app we developed. However, after the OS update on the phone, the subscriptions no longer appear in the developer program, although the subscription does exist in the app itself. Delete TestFlight in-app purchase record by using a real ID.
Hey guys, somehow I used my real ID(not sandbox test ID) to purchase a non-consumable item in the TestFlight package, no actual payment was made, but this payment record cannot be erased. Even though I know the transaction ID, I cannot initiate a refund like using refundRequestSheet(). Does anyone know how to deal with this, or there is no way to solve it?

We have received reports from users that their in-app purchases suddenly appear as unpurchased. We would like to know the cause of this issue. Our implementation does not use a server; purchases are determined solely on the client side. Delete Offer Codes
Regarding the offer codes in https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/manage-subscriptions/set-up-offer-codes, I set up some incorrect offer codes by mistake. Currently, I can only deactivate it but I can't delete it. Is it possible to let me delete the incorrect offer codes due to the below reasons? Thank you. I can't recreate the offer code due to error message This reference name is or has been used by another offer in this subscription group. When I use the offer code redemption view in https://developer.apple.com/documentation/SwiftUI/View/offerCodeRedemption(isPresented:onCompletion:), it shows all the deactivated offer codes. I don't want them to be displayed in the page.

TestFlight Subscription Upgrade Handling
Looking for assistance in managing subscription upgrades for TestFlight users. I have a few monthly subscriptions, 30days, each with a different set of available features, 1 with all, and 1 with fewer. (All are in proper order and grouped in App Store connection subscriptions) subscribing seems to be working fine, and purchasing an upgrade is going ok. what is not: reflecting the upgraded plan in app (currently reflects it will start in 30days when current subscription expires) I’m lead to believe this will be resolved with a live app in App Store, that will then handle prorating, terminate the old plan and immediately start the new one. looking for help getting TestFlight to show immediate upgrades.

verifyReceipt endpoint failing on occassion
I am finding that the verifyReceipt endpoint used to verify a receipt is failing on occassion starting around October 27, 2015. I realize this API is deprecated. I am using cURL to call verifyReceipt. The specific errors are 52 - Empty reply from server and 56 - Connection closed abruptly. This indicates an issue with Apple's server as I understand it. Is anyone else experiencing this as well?

Best current approach to detecting legacy paid app download (without relying on deprecated APIs)?
I’m trying to determine the most appropriate modern method for detecting whether a user originally downloaded a paid app (prior to transitioning the app to freemium/IAP-based access). Historically, this was done by checking for a valid App Store receipt and using SKReceiptRefreshRequest to ensure a fresh one was available. However, SKReceiptRefreshRequest and many related aspects of StoreKit receipt handling are now deprecated in iOS 17+. The current Apple documentation on receipt validation still refers to SKReceiptRefreshRequest, which makes things unclear. With so many deprecations and the push toward StoreKit 2, what’s the recommended path to: Check for a valid App Store receipt Confirm that the app was originally purchased (as a paid app, not via IAP) Persist this info to exempt the user from paywalling the app in the future I don’t need to validate purchases of IAPs — just to detect a legacy paid app download. Any guidance on best practice for this use case, preferably using non-deprecated APIs (StoreKit 2 or otherwise), would be appreciated.

Subscription upgrade during trial with a pending crossgrade: does remaining trial time get forfeited and is the prior plan refunded?
I’m implementing subscriptions and running tests, and I noticed a behavior I’d like to confirm. Plans in the app Basic — Monthly Basic — Annual Premium — Monthly Premium — Annual Test environment Sandbox (where ~1 day ≈ under 1 minute of real time) steps Start Basic (Monthly) using an introductory offer (free trial). Create a crossgrade to Basic (Annual) (scheduled/queued). 3.After receiving a RENEWAL App Store Server Notification indicating the plan will move from trial to paid Basic (Annual), but before the trial actually expires, upgrade the user to Premium (Monthly). Observed behavior (Sandbox) & questions Even though there is still up to ~1 day of trial remaining (≈ under 1 minute in Sandbox), upgrading to Premium (Monthly) immediately ends the trial and activates the paid Premium plan right away. Will this same behavior occur in Production? If yes, is this the expected/acceptable behavior when upgrading during an active trial after a pending crossgrade? Note: If we upgrade to Premium before the RENEWAL notification arrives, the remaining trial time is carried over in our tests. In this flow, we see a RENEWAL notification for Basic (Annual) (moving from trial → paid), but then the user immediately upgrades to Premium (Monthly) and the trial ends at that moment. In Production, would the charge for Basic (Annual) be refunded automatically since the user effectively switches to Premium immediately (and Basic Annual does not remain active)? In Sandbox there’s no real charge, but I want to ensure we won’t see a situation in Production where Basic (Annual) is billed and not refunded, even though the subscription effectively moved to Premium right away. Advanced Commerce API – 5000000 "Unknown error" when calling Migrate API
We've been approved for the Advanced Commerce API. After receiving the approval, we completed the initial setup requirements (submitted a generic product ID and shared our subscriptions page deep link). When testing the Migrate Subscription to Advanced Commerce endpoint in the sandbox, we receive a 5000000 error. What could be the reason/s for it? There is no information, and the API call we make includes all required parameters. Could it be related to the fact that our new generic product ID status is "Missing Metadata"? Is there a way to understand what the issue is on Apple's side?

Strange Pattern of Subscriptions + Refunds — Possible Abuse?
Hi everyone, I'm an indie developer and recently noticed some odd behavior in my app's subscription metrics. There’s been a sudden spike in annual subscriptions, which is very unusual for my app — historically, users rarely choose that option. What’s more concerning is that these subscriptions are almost immediately canceled and refunded. Upon checking analytics (RevenueCat + App Store Connect), I also noticed inconsistencies in user location data: users appear to be from one region (like Singapore), but deeper tracking shows actual usage from Vietnam, a market I’ve never targeted and where I do no advertising. Hi All, We are trying to integrate Promotional Offer in our app, We have a React Native app and are using react-native-iap for handling our in app purchases, as per the documentation we are generating signature in our BE and passing the proper details to the function as well, but for subscription request which have offer applied we are getting the apple pop up properly as well with offer details but when trying to subscribe it gives us SKErrroDomain: 12, for subscription without applying offer the subscription goes through but when we apply the offer we get the above error. Our app is currently in Development Stages and has not been sent for review sam for our subscription plans as well. Please let me know what could be the probable cause for this and help us resolve the issue. Not receiving App Store Server Notifications for failed transactions
We are currently integrating In-App Purchases for our app and have configured App Store Server Notifications (v2) in the Sandbox environment. During testing, we observed the following issue: When a transaction is cancelled, declined, or pending (e.g., Ask to Buy flows or authorization pending), No App Store Server Notification is sent to our webhook endpoint. We only receive webhook events where the status is "purchased". This becomes a critical problem for us because our backend must accurately track transaction states including failed and pending purchases, especially for wallet top-up use cases. Additionally, we tried mocking failed transactions (via Xcode local environment and turning off In-App Purchases from Developer Settings) to simulate a technical failure scenario. Even in these cases, no webhook notification was received when the purchase failed server-side. Is it expected behavior in Sandbox that only successful transactions ("purchased") trigger webhooks? Are failed or pending transactions suppressed in Sandbox intentionally? Will webhook behavior be different in Production (i.e., will we receive webhook notifications for failures there)? Is there any extra configuration or entitlement needed to fully test failure scenarios via webhooks in Sandbox?

Validating Mac App Store purchase with StoreKit
For years I've been using Receigen for receipt verification for the Mac App Store build of my application. However, with the deprecation of exit code 173, I am moving to StoreKit-based verification and have a couple of questions. Even when exporting a new release build of my app and running it (without any _MASReceipt). When using exit code 173, an .app without a _MASReceipt would prompt for app store login. Nothing of the sort happens now. Am I misunderstanding the documentation / doing something wrong / missing something obvious?

"Cannot Connect" message when triggering beginRefundRequest
Hello! We are tryign to test refund notifications and we've implemented a debug button trigger the refund of a purchase done with a sandbox account. The problem is that the refund view displays a Cannot Connect message and nothing happens. No error messages appear in the console. Anything we are doing wrong?

Is there an API provided by the App Store Server API for canceling subscriptions?
Is there an App Store Server API available that allows cancellation of specific subscriptions by specifying transaction_id or similar identifiers? Background of these questions: We occasionally suspend user accounts due to violations of our service terms and conditions. In such cases, we would like to forcibly cancel their subscriptions if possible. However, we could not find relevant information in the documentation, which is why we are reaching out with these questions. Please let us know.

Ask to buy pending state lacking transaction object
StoreKit ask to buy should have more data in pending state. When user try to purchase ask to buy, we should get at least transactionID, product itself, and time that user start the request. So we can keep track of the whole transaction flow jwsRepresentation should always available for every state, actually even failing state. And should attach state inside of it. Instead of only available after verified purchase. So we can use transactionID and everything relate to transaction for both waiting for purchase and clearing up the cancel or invalid purchase Currently we only have jwsRepresentation after complete purchase, which is very limited its usage

Show Price Increase Consent
I'm currently still on StoreKit 1, and am testing the paymentQueueShouldShowPriceConsent delegate function. In my local .storekit file, I have a renewable subscription set up with a promotional offer. My test flow is as follows: User subscribes to renewable subscription Let subscription auto-renew once or twice User subscribes to renewable subscription with promotional offer with significant price reduction Promotional offer lapses and price increases to normal Expect paymentQueueShouldShowPriceConsent delegate function to trigger However, #5 never does get invoked, despite re-trying the subscription and promotional offers in various configurations. Manually triggering the Request Price Increase Consent option in the Xcode StoreKit transactions list does invoke the delegate function, but letting the promotional offer lapse does not. My storefront is set to Korea, and my simulator region is set to Korea as well. According to the documentation here and here, consent is required for all price increases in Korea. Is there some way I could check if things are working as intended?

Problem with siubscriptions in Sandbox
The phone is set up with the developer program to cancel subscriptions from the app we developed. However, after the OS update on the phone, the subscriptions no longer appear in the developer program, although the subscription does exist in the app itself. Delete TestFlight in-app purchase record by using a real ID.
Hey guys, somehow I used my real ID(not sandbox test ID) to purchase a non-consumable item in the TestFlight package, no actual payment was made, but this payment record cannot be erased. Even though I know the transaction ID, I cannot initiate a refund like using refundRequestSheet(). Does anyone know how to deal with this, or there is no way to solve it?

in-app purchases suddenly appear as unpurchased.
We have received reports from users that their in-app purchases suddenly appear as unpurchased. We would like to know the cause of this issue. Our implementation does not use a server; purchases are determined solely on the client side. These reports often occur after updating the app version, but we have been unable to reproduce the issue in our development environment.

Delete Offer Codes
Regarding the offer codes in https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/manage-subscriptions/set-up-offer-codes, I set up some incorrect offer codes by mistake. Currently, I can only deactivate it but I can't delete it. Is it possible to let me delete the incorrect offer codes due to the below reasons? Thank you. I can't recreate the offer code due to error message This reference name is or has been used by another offer in this subscription group. When I use the offer code redemption view in https://developer.apple.com/documentation/SwiftUI/View/offerCodeRedemption(isPresented:onCompletion:), it shows all the deactivated offer codes. I don't want them to be displayed in the page.

TestFlight Subscription Upgrade Handling
Looking for assistance in managing subscription upgrades for TestFlight users. I have a few monthly subscriptions, 30days, each with a different set of available features, 1 with all, and 1 with fewer. (All are in proper order and grouped in App Store connection subscriptions) subscribing seems to be working fine, and purchasing an upgrade is going ok. what is not: reflecting the upgraded plan in app (currently reflects it will start in 30days when current subscription expires) I’m lead to believe this will be resolved with a live app in App Store, that will then handle prorating, terminate the old plan and immediately start the new one. looking for help getting TestFlight to show immediate upgrades.

verifyReceipt endpoint failing on occassion
I am finding that the verifyReceipt endpoint used to verify a receipt is failing on occassion starting around October 27, 2015. I realize this API is deprecated. I am using cURL to call verifyReceipt. The specific errors are 52 - Empty reply from server and 56 - Connection closed abruptly. This indicates an issue with Apple's server as I understand it. Is anyone else experiencing this as well?
